The Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy Paddle Ball Set is the official paddle ball set of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. It appears in the episodes "Have You Seen This Snail?" and "Plankton Gets the Boot" and the book Where's Gary?.

The toy comes in a green rectangular box. To the left, it says "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy" with a picture of them below the text. To the right, it reads "Official Paddleball Set" with a picture of the product. The toy is a wooden paddle and a dark red ball attached to the center by a string.

Role in series

"Have You Seen This Snail?"

SpongeBob receives the paddle ball set in the mail, and finds out about a challenge called the "Dirty Bubble challenge" that involves one having to hit the paddle ball 29,998,559,671,349 times in a row. SpongeBob tries extremely hard, but fails to reach the goal. SpongeBob tries to beat the challenge for so long that he forgets to feed Gary, which causes Gary to run away.

It is revealed in the same episode that Patrick had previously won the challenge, but had lost the trophy that he received.

"Plankton Gets the Boot"

It can be seen among a pile of other games in SpongeBob's house when SpongeBob and Plankton are watching a movie.

  • If one counts hitting the paddle ball one time each at half a second, to hit the paddle ball for at least 29,998,559,671,350 times in a row would take at least 249,987,997,261 minutes, equivalent to 4,166,466,621 hours, 173,602,775 days, 24,800,396 weeks, or 2,066,699 years to do, which makes it impossible to achieve that many paddles, as it is impossible to live, let alone paddle that long.
  • In the lower right corner, it says the text NICKELODEON, INC., which was added as an Easter egg.
  • Despite having the "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy" brand name, the paddle ball set itself only looks like a regular, ordinary wooden paddle ball set.
  • The box misspells "paddle ball" as one word.
