Margaret Cecilia May[1] SquarePants (née BubbleBottom[2]) is Harold SquarePants' wife, SpongeBob SquarePants' mother, the daughter-in-law of Grandpa and Grandma SquarePants, the sister-in-law of Captain Blue and Sherm, the aunt of Larry, Todd, BlackJack, and Stanley S., and the great-grandmother of SpongeBob's grandson. She is voiced by Sirena Irwin.
Description
She has black hair and is dressed in a purple matchbox dress with matching sleeveless pantalettes with purple high heels and wears a pearl necklace. She resembles a sea sponge, whereas her son resembles more of a kitchen sponge.
Biography
She was born as Margaret BubbleBottom to Mr. and Mrs. BubbleBottom. Margaret may have had a sibling.
She married Harold SquarePants and changed her name to Margaret SquarePants.
She had one child, named SpongeBob SquarePants.
She once told SpongeBob to never run with a broom.[3]
She always told SpongeBob not to look for trouble.[4]
She now lives only with her husband since SpongeBob moved out.
Role in series
She debuted in "Home Sweet Pineapple," where her and her husband came to pick up SpongeBob after nematodes ate his pineapple house. In this episode, when SpongeBob is in his parents' boatmobile, he says "Goodbye Bikini Bottom!," which indicates that his parents don't live in Bikini Bottom.
They later appear in "Culture Shock" as they watch the Krusty Krab Talent Show, and in "No Free Rides," where they give their son a boatmobile for passing his driver's test. In "Driven to Tears," they seem sad that SpongeBob doesn't have his license, saying "Even Patrick has a license."
In "Whelk Attack," it is revealed that her maiden name is "BubbleBottom." It is also revealed in "A SquarePants Family Vacation" that her real name is Margaret. She is also mentioned in "Sailor Mouth" when SpongeBob says bad word #11 for the first time and the Janitor asks if he kisses his mother with such a dirty mouth, to which SpongeBob responds "Sometimes, but not recently."
Trivia
- Oddly, the Q&A section of the official SpongeBob SquarePants website for New Zealand states that her name is "Claire Gretchen SquarePants."[5] This however, is false.
- In the end credits, she is listed as "Mom," and sometimes "Mother SquarePants."
