This article is a complete list of deleted or edited scenes from SpongeBob SquarePants episodes. A deleted scene is any scene that has been cut out of either an episode from the storyboard version, cut out in International airings, or has been cut out from the episode in airing after the original airing.

Season 1

• "Help Wanted" - In the original 1997 version of the pilot, there was a different opening with fast-paced action sequence music and colorful paintings of SpongeBob. However, on May 1, 1999 after 1999 Kids' Choice Awards, this episode officially aired with the famous theme song.
  • In the 1997 version, there is a brief orchestral flourish with waves crashing and seagull noises over a black screen before the opening shot of Bikini Bottom. In the 1999 version, there is a title sequence for "Help Wanted."
  • When Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight plays for a second time, the screen abruptly cuts to black in the 1997 version. In the 1999 version, the Krusty Krab stays on-screen until the episode ends. The song is also cut-off slightly in the 1999 version.
  • In the storyboard, the scene in which SpongeBob wakes up and greets Gary originally showed Gary taking a bite from a cactus, about garden snails' tendency to feed on succulent plants. The 2007 book Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons! features a page from the original storyboard that includes this scene.
  • The end credits for the 1997 and 1999 versions of "Help Wanted" have several differences, including:
    • In the cast credits in the 1997 version, Bill Fagerbakke's name is misspelled as "Bill Fabberbakke." This error was corrected in the 1999 version.
    • In the cast credits in the 1997 version, Patrick Star's name is misspelled as "Partick Star." This error was corrected in the 1999 version.
    • Gary the Snail, who was voiced by Tom Kenny, is not credited in the 1997 version. This error was corrected in the 1999 version with Gary being added in.
    • Carolyn Lawrence, who voiced Sandy, is not credited in the 1997 version. This is because "Tea at the Treedome" had yet to be produced.
    • In the credits in the 1997 version, Erik Wiese's name is misspelled as "Erik Weise."
    • Near the ending of the 1997 version, instead of the United Plankton Pictures, Inc. logo being displayed, there is a logo with the "Created By" text above, the SpongeBob sketch drawing in the middle, and the "Stephen Hillenburg" text below. This is because the United Plankton Pictures, Inc. company did not exist at the time of the 1997 version.
    • At the ending of the 1997 version, there is an early Nicktoons logo that has a small and short copyright notice with a production date of 1997. The ending of the 1999 version has a more detailed and prolonged copyright notice with a production date of 1999.

• "Reef Blower" - Originally, the episode was supposed to have dialogue, but the studio's audio equipment wasn't working properly, so they had to improvise and cut out all voice acting lines for the episode. This remains unconfirmed, however.

• "Tea at the Treedome" - An original title card with a different background and font colors can be found on the SuperSponge asset discs. It is the only title card on the discs that do not match its final version. It was never used in the episode or shown on TV.
  • Additionally, on the original airing, the Tales from the Deep DVD and the Deep Sea Sillies VHS releases of this episode, Edgar Larrazábal was credited as the animation director instead of Tom Yasumi. This also happens in early reruns.

• "Jellyfishing" - An additional background of Squidward's house was made that wound up being unused.

• "Plankton!" - According to the audio commentary, there was originally going to be a sequence involving Squidward being naked (possibly during the scene in his bedroom), but it was cut due to nudity.
• "Pizza Delivery" - Early production images reveal that scenes featuring the Krusty Krab's clock and a neon sign signaling the restaurant being either open or closed were cut.

• "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy" - There is an unused water-colored painting of a cherry pie that was supposed to be used in this episode, but it was cut for unknown reasons.

• "F.U.N." - In the storyboard version, Plankton asks "So what happens after we shoot 'em?" and pretends to fire his net like a gun. SpongeBob responds "You don't shoot 'em!" In the finished episode, the firearm references were removed.

• "Scaredy Pants" - When the Flying Dutchman removes SpongeBob's costume, there was originally a close-up of SpongeBob's face. This was most likely removed because it was too scary for young viewers.

• "I Was a Teenage Gary" - A since-debunked rumor claims that in the original airing, there was a scene showing Squidward's snail transformation.
  • As of June 12, 2016, the deleted scene was confirmed to have been false by a YouTube user named 90sGiveMeGoosebumps, who has a tape with the original airing of this episode. As further proof, he also uploaded a clip of All That cast member Lori Beth Denberg introducing this episode as brand new.
  • Current show runner Vincent Waller said that the so-called deleted scene was never drawn in the storyboard of this episode.

• "Sleepy Time" - As shown in an early production image (found on eBay), a background of Pearl's bedroom was created for a scene in the episode. The scene featuring her room was cut, and the background was never used.

• "Suds" - Unused cels of Doctor Patrick holding a suitcase of medical supplies have been discovered on eBay. Additionally, an unused painted closeup of one of SpongeBob's plugged holes can be seen on a set of the SpongeBob SquarePants Trading Card Game from 2003.

• "The Paper" - In very early storyboarding stages, the episode's climax was originally going to be that Squidward's stack of belongings comes to life and SpongeBob has to defeat it with the piece of paper.
• "Arrgh!" - The storyboard features a cut scene. Right after SpongeBob says, "Hey! Mr. Krabs is getting all sweaty again!" there was going to be a vision of Mr. Krabs sitting atop and sniffing a pile of treasure.
• "Texas" - In the scene where SpongeBob doesn't want Sandy to leave before following her to the bus, there were several frames of SpongeBob swelling up and turning red in anticipation that got cut. Several cels and sketches have appeared on eBay. Twitter user LarryInc64 attempted to recreate the scene using the material found.
• "Neptune's Spatula" - An early background for the scene where SpongeBob reads a bed-time story for a Krabby Patty.
• "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II" - An early, unused animation cel reveals that the life-size Krabby Patty mannequins of Mermaid and Barnacle Boy at first were to be sculpted from Krabby Patty batter, rather than actual Krabby Patty sandwiches. An early storyboard also included a scene where the judges of the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy fan contest began to nibble from the statues, which also never made it into the final print. There were also three backgrounds of a scene where a jewelry store gets robbed, as well as the First Nautical Bank and a low shot of a building.

Season 2

• "Something Smells" - According to the audio commentary, Squidward had a deleted line at the end of the episode: "Ugly and smelly, two for one." The audio commentary also reveals that the episode was originally going to start with SpongeBob going out to buy every gallon of ice cream in town and not knowing the brand of ice cream he buys is onion, then getting bad breath from eating it.
• "Big Pink Loser" - Art from a deleted scene can be seen here. There is also concept art for the fishes.
  

  
• "Dying for Pie" - The "open-heart surgery" scene is different in the storyboard. After Squidward asks, "Are you sure you should be poking it like that?" SpongeBob asks, "Who's the doctor here, me or you?" and blood comes out of Squidward's heart. SpongeBob nervously plugs up the hole. Additionally, when SpongeBob is showing Squidward to "everyone in town," he stops by a fish typing working on a computer and greets them. When the fish look out of the window, there is nobody there.

• "Grandma's Kisses" - The sideburns were originally mustaches in the storyboard version. Also in the storyboard is a deleted shot of SpongeBob and Patrick eating cookies together at the end.
• "Prehibernation Week" - According to the audio commentary, when Sandy rakes the leaves, she makes a big symbol for "girl power," but it was changed to Texas - likely because it fit better with her character. She also originally would have performed a whole gleeful dance routine when stepping on the leaves, but it had to be cut for time. There was also an alternate ending: when SpongeBob sees Sandy begin her hibernation, he would have said: "Why I oughta!" Ultimately, he would instead laugh, then say to himself, "I never thought I'd say it - but thank Neptune for hibernation!"
• "Life of Crime" - There was originally going to be a sequence of SpongeBob and Patrick playing a game involving many sharp objects with the balloon. This was changed to SpongeBob and Patrick thinking about all the fun they could have with the balloon, then it popping - likely for its sudden humor delivery.
  • Also, there was a rumor that SpongeBob was originally going to say "no more getting nailed" and Patrick would nail a plank to his head. This remains unconfirmed, and according to many researchers of lost media, there is a good chance of it being false.
• "Christmas Who?" - Three scenes and lines in the storyboard version was deleted.
  • Squidward (as Santa) gives the first girl a plant resembling himself instead of a wrench.
  • While waiting in line for Santa (as Squidward), Mr. Krabs says "And don't forget about me pony!," referencing his earlier Christmas wish for a pony "with saddlebags full of money."
  • After Squidward gives the first girl the gift, SpongeBob says "I told ya he was real!" enthusiastically.
• "Survival of the Idiots" - According to the audio commentary, Sandy's bed was hanging from the ceiling (like a hammock), and there was more saliva.
• "Pressure" - SpongeBob would stick his tongue through his holes after asking Sandy what she can do. However, Jay Lender comments that there is a chance that this scene may be from "Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm" instead.
• "Shanghaied" - In the original airing, viewers could pick who would get the last wish at the end of the episode. All subsequent airings only show SpongeBob's ending, although some DVDs do contain the alternate endings.
• "Welcome to the Chum Bucket" - According to the audio commentary, there was a scene where Plankton takes out SpongeBob's brain before putting it in the robot. It was likely either cut for graphic content or time constraints.
• "Graveyard Shift" - The Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD features storyboards of this episode and a deleted scene, in which SpongeBob does another activity "at night" as he delivers the mail to "Floorboard Harry" - a mysterious character who lived beneath the floorboards of the Krusty Krab - whose face was covered by one of the said floorboards - with a hole revealing an eye peeking out. Floorboard Harry was also originally going to be the one responsible for flickering the lights, not Nosferatu/Count Orlok.

• "Procrastination" - Three scenes had been removed from US airings in October of 2006, although they would be reinstated 13 years later on Nicktoons.

• • A scene where SpongeBob looks out the window, all his friends are there, and Patrick rubbing Sandy with Sun Lotion then says, "Come on, SpongeBob!"
    • This scene was removed because it looked like Patrick was unhooking Sandy's bikini and it was an inappropriate scene. It was added back to reruns in October 2019 on Nicktoons.
  • SpongeBob exercising
    • This scene was removed on some airings due to SpongeBob's nose moving up and down in a rather obscene way. It was added back to reruns in October 2019 on Nicktoons.
  • A scene where a video of a drag race car crashing into a wall is shown.
    • This was removed because of its imagery; Nickelodeon feared kids and viewers might try to imitate the crash. It was added back to reruns in October 2019 on Nicktoons.
• All DVD releases, 2002-2005 Nickelodeon USA airings and all airings in other countries show these scenes. After May 2005, the scenes were edited out for the reasons given above. All of these scenes are still available on VideoNow disks with this episode in it. Amazon Prime Video and since October 3, 2019 it has been restored on Nicktoons airings.
• "Sailor Mouth" - According to the audio commentary, it was planned to have a scene that had SpongeBob saying "Go (dolphin noise) yourself" followed by Patrick saying "(dolphin noise) you too!" during the Eels and Escalators Game. It was cut for the fact that the foul language user was quite easy to decipher.
• "Artist Unknown" - Bold and Brash was originally going to appear more like a fish, as revealed in a production sketch.
• "Jellyfish Hunter" - In the storyboards, the montage of SpongeBob catching jellyfish was extended, originally having two more grotesque paintings of Mr. Krabs.

Season 3

• "SpongeGuard on Duty" - The storyboard version featured on the SpongeGuard on Duty DVD reveals a few scenes that were changed in the final cut:
  • The two children playing inside a killer whale were originally shown playing inside a crocodile.
  • SpongeBob turning onto his back was originally him flipping into the air.
  • When SpongeBob says "Patrick isn't drowning!" the camera zooms on him at a dramatic angle.

• "Just One Bite" - When Squidward awakes from his dream about marrying a Krabby Patty, he wakes up and he says, "I have got to get my hands on a Krabby Patty and no ones gonna stop me!" and runs past SpongeBob's house on tiptoes. When he's at the Krusty Krab, he says, "There it is, unguarded! All I have to do is...wait. It's too easy. There must be some kind of... security? This is our burglar alarm? A bucket of water? Ha-ha!" He kicks the door open and spills a bucket of liquid, then comments, "That was too easy!" He sniffs the liquid and realizes, "Hey, this isn't water. This is... gas!" A robot arm drops a lit match into the gas, resulting in a huge explosion. Squidward enters the kitchen, setting off another burglar alarm. The kitchen bursts into flames for a few seconds. Then, he walks over to the Patty Vault. Later airings have Squidward saying, "There it is!" and cut to the interior of Krusty Krab with the camera zooming in through the window to the Patty Vault. Squidward approaches it as he did in the original version. The rest of the episode goes normally. Reports of the scene being deleted were as early as January 2002, a mere three months after the episode originally aired. Initially, explanations for the removal were thought to be either to respect the victims of September 11, 2001, which occurred less than a month before the episode aired, or to prevent children from attempting to use and/or ignite gas. Current showrunner Vincent Waller has confirmed in a statement on Twitter that the removal of the scene was ultimately due to Nickelodeon being against the idea of a gag involving a match and gasoline. The edited version is included on all home video releases, excluding a VideoNow disc. Today, the uncut episode is mainly aired only on Canadian and Korean channels. It is also known to be dubbed in Korean. It is unknown why it was not deleted in Canada and Korea.

• "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV" - An interview with Sam Henderson on SpongeBuddy Mania revealed there was originally going to be a scene involving the Bikini Bottomites characters smashing furniture and writing graffiti inside of SpongeBob's head. He further claimed that it was cut because the network can't show any actions that children might try. After SpongeBob says that he doesn't think "wumbo" is a real word, Patrick would originally threaten "Are you saying I don't have any of the ENGLISH?"

• "Snowball Effect" - There was going to be a scene of Squidward entering a snowman dungeon he made and saying, "I'll bring them to my snow dungeon and extract their valuable secrets." This scene did not make it past the storyboard for being too graphic.

• "Squilliam Returns" - An interview with Sam Henderson revealed there was going to be a scene that has baby Squilliam walking while Squidward is only learning to crawl. Then, in high school, Squidward only gives his date a single flower, but Squilliam appears with a bouquet and an enormous box of chocolates.
• "Wet Painters" - In the storyboard version featured on the Sponge for Hire DVD, SpongeBob says, "I dedicate this crash to my best friend Squidward!" This line was cut possibly because it would make it seem as if Squidward was dead.
• "Krusty Krab Training Video" - There was a rumor that in the original airing, there was a scene that had the narrator saying, "It must never be discussed" when the formula is about to be revealed then SpongeBob would trip. As of August 28, 2018, the deleted scene was confirmed to have been false by a YouTube user named CDCB2, who has a tape with the original airing of this episode.

SpongeBob's House Party DVD Deleted Scenes

• "Party Pooper Pants" - In the original version of this episode, the French Narrator has two scenes in-between a commercial break:
  • Narrator: That includes you folks, SpongeBob's House Party will be right back after these messages. [fades out and back in] [Patchy is shown dancing and a guy in a submarine outfit walks towards the camera] Ahoy there! Welcome back to SpongeBob's House Party!
    • These scenes were cut from the Bikini Bottom Bash! VHS tape and DVD releases because there are no commercials on the DVD/VHS. These scenes are still intact on the Bikini Bottom Bash DVD. Also, in the storyboard version featured on the Tales from the Deep DVD, the guests leave after SpongeBob unlocks the door when he gets back from the stony lonesome.

• "New Student Starfish" - In the storyboard version featured on the Sponge for Hire DVD, after Patrick leaves at the end of the episode, there is a deleted line of SpongeBob saying, "Can I have his star?"

• "Clams" - In the storyboard version featured on the SpongeGuard on Duty DVD, after Mr. Krabs gets his 1,000,000th dollar at the Krusty Krab, he uses the restaurant's phone to call his parents Victor Krabs and Betsy Krabs at the Bikini Bottom Graveyard to tell them about it. Exactly why this scene was cut from the final episode is unknown.

• "The Great Snail Race" - There was originally a scene that showed Sandy getting arrested for kicking SpongeBob's bottom but it was cut possibly to save time.
• "The Camping Episode" - A deleted scene has Squidward lay down and find a rock under his blanket, then insist that it's "all part of the roughing-it experience." He then snaps in half. This joke was cut for time. There was originally a second "bum bum bum" in the Campfire Song Song, which would cause Squidward's brain to fly out.
• "The Sponge Who Could Fly" - There is a deleted scene in the storyboard version featured on the Lost at Sea DVD that has Patchy ripping off a SpongeBob band-aid when destroying his SpongeBob stuff. The storyboard version has another deleted scene where Patchy the Pirate goes inside of Don's Import Store & Delicatessen, but gets kicked out due to the store having a "No Pirates" sign. Don's Import Store & Delicatessen was also originally planned to be called "Shop n Shop" (a parody of Stop & Shop).

Season 4

• "Have You Seen This Snail?" - The original plot idea for this episode involved Granny fattening Gary up to eat him, but that was changed due to it being too dark. As such, she had an ax in the original cut that was replaced with a tray of cookies. According to the storyboard version, SpongeBob was originally going to visit Squidward's house and ask him if he could give him a hand with the bag of snail food.
• "Dunces and Dragons" - In the animatic version featured on disc two of the Season 4 Volume 1 DVD, SpongeBob and Patrick make sure they are okay after falling out of the sky. This deleted scene can be viewed here. Another deleted scene involves a SpongeBob Doppelganger this was cut for unknown reasons.

• "Ghost Host" - As shown in the storyboard, there are several deleted scenes.
  • The Flying Dutchman does a finger trick to SpongeBob after turning into various monsters.
  • After the customer in the mattress store wakes up, he says "Oh?! It's you. You gave me quite a start" to the manager.
  • Before the party scene, the storyboard shows the Flying Dutchman laying in a pile of junk and sleeping. SpongeBob clears his throat to get the Dutchman's attention, causing the Dutchman to wake up and say "Breakfast? I'd like four fried eggs and three double Krabby Patties." SpongeBob then brings out a plate of steamed coral, asking "How about a healthy serving of steamed coral instead?" The Dutchman asks "Why do ya think I'm getting a little paunchy?" SpongeBob replies "I'm on the outside lookin' in, man." The Flying Dutchman proceeds to take the steamed coral ("Alright, alright, gimme that thing!") and sniff it, then pushes it away in disgust. SpongeBob then says he has to go to work, but that he knows the Dutchman will scare the pants off of someone. The Flying Dutchman mumbles "Yeah, sure," and when SpongeBob asks what he said, he says in a louder voice, "I'll get right on that." SpongeBob then leaves work, and the two say goodbye to each other. Immediately after, the Dutchman grabs the phone and calls his friend Ralph to have a party, which then leads up to the party scene.
  • When everyone at the party leaves, Susie asks the Dutchman "Will I see you again?" The Dutchman then says "When you least expect it, baby!" proceeded by SpongeBob slamming the door.
  • Immediately after the aforementioned deleted scene with Susie, SpongeBob goes over his agreements with the Dutchman's residence inside his house, followed by the Dutchman licking SpongeBob's finger.
  • When the Flying Dutchman cries after watching the video, SpongeBob comes up to comfort him and says "I know, buddy, I know...," followed by the Dutchman rocking back and forth.
  • After the old lady walks away, SpongeBob comes up and asks the Dutchman what happened. The Dutchman sadly says he probably doesn't have it in him anymore, which causes SpongeBob to grab his beard and yell "Nonsense" and pep talks the Dutchman that he still has it in him.
  • Originally, before they head up to the gym, SpongeBob tells the Dutchman, "Dutchie! I think we found your next victim!"
  • Before Squidward goes to pamper his face, he says, "Thank goodness for days off work... now I can get back to what's really important... me!" Then, when he comes to his make-up brush, he says "Ah, the beauty of man foundation. Does wonders for a squid-like me. Not that I need it!"
  • Squidward was originally going to say, "Get a hold of yourself, Squidward" before saying, "There's n-n-no such things as ghosts."
  • After Squidward says, "No! That's impossible!" it shows the Flying Dutchman still doing the finger trick while Squidward says, "Noooo!" before running off.

• "Karate Island" - For years, there were rumors that in the original airing of this episode, there was a small amount of blood on Master Udon's face after getting beaten up by Sandy. Vincent Waller on Twitter eventually debunked this in 2018. The episode originally ended with a dedication to Noriyuki "Pat" Morita (1932 - 2005), who voiced Master Udon in this episode and died on November 24, 2005 due to kidney failure. He was best known as Mitsumo "Arnold" Takahashi from the TV show Happy Days, Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid, and the Emperor of China in the Walt Disney Animation Studios 36th animated feature film, Mulan. The dedication card at the end of the episode was removed after the Best Day Ever marathon, most likely because of the sudden appearance of Pat Morita's face. However, the online version, Polish, Canadian, Australian, Belgian, French, Turkish, Spanish, German, Asia, Philippine, the British Nicktoons airings, and DVD versions still have the dedication.

• "All That Glitters" - According to the storyboard, after Mr. Krabs says, "Go before I lose all me customers," he cries a teardrop saying, "Me money." Squidward asks "What happened?" and Mr. Krabs replies "I don't know."

Season 5

• "Friend or Foe" - The following are from the the animatic version featured on the Friend or Foe? DVD. These deleted scenes can view here.
  • In the scene where the scene pans through the customers eating at Krusty Krab at the beginning of the SpongeBob episode, Mr. Krabs is looking left instead of right.
  • When SpongeBob says, "Don't forget your condiments, Plankton" and squirts Plankton with ketchup and mustard, Plankton's cake ship flies around as Plankton says, "Curses!"
  • When SpongeBob says, "Why, Mr. Krabs? Why does he hate us so?" SpongeBob was next to Mr. Krabs, not in front of him.
  • When Mr, Krabs says, "Well, you might as well blame me, SpongeBob, there was a time when Plankton and I were best friends," Mr. Krabs is holding SpongeBob and then walks over to a table and sits down.
  • In the scene with the class bullies laughing at Plankton after Billy hits Plankton with a spitball, Young Man Jenkins does not have his hair.
    • It should be noted that he did in the original pan of the class, so it was likely just an animation error.
  • When young Sheldon says, "Idiots," the test tubes are being held horizontally and some of the liquid is on the desk.
    • This was mostly removed because the result of mixing the two chemicals is an explosion.
  • When young Sheldon says, "I'll show you," one of the test tubes is horizontal.
  • When the chemicals explode, the exterior of the school is not shown, it is just an explosion cloud.
  • After young Eugene says, "Buy things?" the image flips.
  • When Stinky Burger is shown in a wide shot, there is writing on the order window door.
  • Stinky's hair was originally a vertical block, instead of rounded hair.
  • When Stinky breaks up the fight about whether the kids respect or like him, he waves his arm vertically in the air, instead of in front of him.
  • The second outfit that Sticky wears did not originally have the medallion.
  • When young Sheldon evilly laughs for the first time, it looks different than the final product.
  • When young Sheldon is exercising, his arms don't move.

• "Spy Buddies" - According to the audio commentary, instead of Plankton finding SpongeBob and Patrick when they fall into the Chum Bucket, SpongeBob and Patrick were going to see a dispute between Plankton and Karen, which featured Plankton not wanting to go to Karen's Mother-in-law (a car alarm that only says, "Stay away from the vehicle")'s house.

• "Good Ol' Whatshisname" - On Nicktoons airings, Dani Michaeli is credited as a writer instead of Richard Pursel.

• "New Digs" - According to the audio commentary, there was originally going to be a scene where Gary either was shown being milked or the aftermath of being milked for the snail milk featured in this episode. This was most likely removed as it would have been disturbing and Gary is a male snail, so it would not make sense.
• "Roller Cowards" - On current American TV airings, "Mavericks" is replaced with "Monster Wave." There may have originally been a scene planned where SpongeBob and Patrick were going to print the tickets online. However, in the audio commentary this information came from, the commentators laughed about this, meaning it might have been a joke.

• "To Love a Patty" - There were many scenes altered between the animatic version and final version.
  • The scene of SpongeBob screaming at the idea of Patty being eaten isn't present in the animatic.
  • In the same scene, there would've been a close-up of SpongeBob ripped in half.
  • A few seconds later, SpongeBob would've been shown running into the kitchen, with Squidward following.
  • Some of Squidward's hand movements are missing.
  • The firehose Gary uses to extinguish the fire looks slightly different in the animatic.
  • SpongeBob's fright was originally on the overside of the room.
  • Some of SpongeBob's movements when he rejects Patrick and Sandy's offers are different. There also would've been a crowd cheering.
  • During the "I Can't Keep My Eyes Off of You" song sequence, some of the perspectives were differently, Patty was originally shown partially eaten, and already smelling before it hits the water. When SpongeBob signs "I'll never let you out of my sight again! And I'll always keep you out of harms way!," it would've shown multiple stills of SpongeBob.
  • After the song there was a scene of SpongeBob, in his underwear, is in his bed with Patty. This was toned down to them having a picnic in the finished episode to remove any sexual undertones.
  • When SpongeBob arrives at the Krusty Krab, he's shown wearing his wig and suit from "The Chaperone" on his date with Patty. The colors of his suit were changed for the final version of the episode, and his wig was removed entirely.
• "Breath of Fresh Squidward" - There was originally a scene involving a mother fish talking to her sister. It was most likely removed in the final cut because of the mother talking to her daughter about her life and her baby were irrelevant to the plot. This can be seen on the animatic version featured on the Bikini Bottom Adventures DVD. Four more scenes (or lines) were also revealed in the animatic as well.
  • After SpongeBob says he and Patrick sneak into Squidward's house every morning, he says "...with our best friend, Squidward."
  • After Mr. Krabs hears that Squidward is selling free hats, he said "Did somebody say free... in my restaurant?!" and runs out of his office. In the final cut, he only says "Did somebody say free?" suspiciously.
  • SpongeBob screams after finding out that Squidward made Krabby Patties.
  • SpongeBob says "What are you gonna do? Cry, Mr. Squidward Tentacles, or should I say, Squidjerk Losercles?" to Squidward before getting electrocuted.

• "Money Talks" - According to the audio commentary, after Mr. Krabs is granted his power to talk to money, he wakes up in his bed and finds a nickel in his belly button. It was originally going to be located in his butt.
• "Goo Goo Gas" - Originally, in the scene where Plankton sits on the bench and watches the baby, Plankton would take a baby bottle a few times and then kidnap the baby. The baby's mother would then walk up to the stroller and ask where her baby went. It was heavily implied in the audio commentary that Sadie was not going to be the baby's mother, so it was later cut.

• "Le Big Switch" - In the original storyboards (pictured to the right), there was a full scene showing Pearl in her room as she talked on the phone with Mr. Krabs. Their conversation was longer. This scene was cut from the final episode.

• "Atlantis SquarePantis" - In some countries, such as Spain, Poland, Greece, or Serbia this episode is aired in two parts.
• "BlackJack" - Somewhere in mid-2009, Nickelodeon USA TV airings of this episode were changed to use "Secret Agent 00 SquarePants" as the title card music instead of "K-55," possibly due to copyrights issues. DVD releases and Nicktoons airings still use "K-55" however.
• "The Inmates of Summer" - In Nickelodeon USA airings since 2013, the title card is skipped.
• "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?" - Many deleted scenes can be found in the animatic version featured on the SpongeBob's WhoBob WhatPants? DVD.
  • Before Patrick calls SpongeBob an idiot boy, he says that he has to make a second cake for his mother.
  • After SpongeBob destroys Sandy's robot, Sandy shows SpongeBob the robot's broken head and tells him to get out.
  • When SpongeBob moves away, oysters can be heard yelling.
  • After getting a lump on his head, SpongeBob says, "I better not hit my head again. That might cause a concussion."
  • After the people of New Kelp City run away, SpongeBob asks "What's wrong with blowing bubbles?" and blows one.
• "The Two Faces of Squidward" - According to the audio commentary, the thing that was originally going to cause Squidward to get a broken face was a truck. It was changed to SpongeBob slamming the door on his face because it would have been too frightening to be shown.
• "Banned in Bikini Bottom" - According to the audio commentary, there was originally going to be a scene in which Pearl is shown singing at the secret Krusty Krab.

Season 6

• "Nautical Novice" - In the storyboard version, the episode opens with Mrs. Puff giving her class an acronym to remember: CALAMITY, standing for "Calm And Lively Awareness Makes Impervious Trip (for) You."

• "SpongeBob SquarePants vs. The Big One" - In some countries, including Poland, they use an alternate title card that reads "SpongeBob SquarePants and the Big Wave." In some other countries, including Latvia, Ukraine, Australia, and Germany, they use an alternate title card that reads "The Secret of Kahuna Laguna."

• "To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants" - According to the storyboard version featured on the SpongeBob's To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants DVD, when SpongeBob fills out an application and is confused about what the word "felony" means, there is a deleted line of SpongeBob saying, "Oh, I'm convicted of that all the time!"

• "Truth or Square" - In the storyboard, the episode was originally going to have a line in the marriage scene after the priest says he didn't know the wedding was a play. SpongeBob says, "It doesn't have to be," which causes Sandy to slap him. The extended version of the episode, which includes many additional scenes, is currently only available on the SpongeBob's Truth or Square, Season 6 Volume 1, Triple Pack 1, The Complete Sixth Season, Big Hits: Volume 1, The Next 100 Episodes, and The Best 200 Episodes Ever DVDs. The additional scenes were not shown in most international airings. There is also a "Stuck in the Freezer" title card that can be seen in many countries, including Latin America and Brazil.
• "Pineapple Fever" - According to the script found in the August 2009 Nickelodeon Magazine, the episode was originally going to end with the tornado stopping and the house falling on Squidward.

Original title card

• "The Clash of Triton" - This episode was originally called "Neptune's Party," and a title card for "Neptune's Party" was even made before it was changed to "The Clash of Triton." The title card can still be seen in Lithuania, Finland, Asia, Germany, France, Poland, and all of Central and Eastern Europe.

Season 7

• "Someone's in the Kitchen with Sandy" - Originally, Sandy was going to appear fully naked in the episode, but the design was revised to be less grotesque, giving her underwear in the process. Besides Sandy's changed design, there were scenes in the original storyboard that were cut from the final episode.
  • Sandy covers herself with a construction cone, but after causing an accident a worker blamed her like a thief in front of the police, she runs away and leaves the cone.
  • Sandy finds a clothing store, and she goes on it for clothes, but she was taken out by the owner saying that without clothes there's no service.
  • A Live News Broadcast was filming a Sasquatch's Footage and they film a naked Sandy hiding, the reporter confuses her with the Sasquatch.

Hair error

• "Gramma's Secret Recipe" - There are two versions of this episode. One has an animation error where Plankton's Grandma still has hair after Plankton steals it from her, and another where she has her hair off and the animation error fixed. The fixed version appeared in later Nickelodeon USA reruns, on the Complete Seventh Season and The Next 100 Episodes DVD releases and can still be seen on Nicktoons USA, while the version with the error can be seen in other countries, as well as on Netflix.

Season 8

• "Frozen Face-Off" - A piece of production art implies that at one point, Squidward was going to show off his Russian winter clothes.
• "Bubble Buddy Returns" - SpongeBob was originally going to see Ernest Borgnine's face in Squidward's cupboard and exclaim "Borgnine!"
• "InSPONGEiac" - During Comic-Con 2011, the initial synopsis for "InSPONGEiac" had Mr. Krabs have a nightmare and turn into a mustard dispenser.
• "Demolition Doofus" - In the storyboard, after SpongeBob goes down the rail, the other skaters say "Dude!"
• "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" - The Patchy segments were cut in the CBS airing. There are also differences between the storyboard version and final cut of the episode:
  • In the storyboard, the road at the beginning of the episode is just a road with some mountains in the background. In the final version, the road is on the side of a mountain, then the turn.
  • In the storyboard, when Patchy stops and introduces his situation, the shot is through the windshield and he is wearing a mailman's hat. In the final version, he looks out of the truck, leaves the truck, and goes to the back of the truck. He is also wearing his normal pirate hat.
  • In the storyboard, since Patchy does not leave the truck, the mailman is shown in the back of the truck. He looks different than in the final version. In the final version, since Patchy does not have the mailman hat right away, he switches his and the mailman's hat when he shows the mailman.
  • In the storyboard, Potty looks like he is standing on the top part of the seat. In the final version, he is sitting on the top part of a seat.
  • In the storyboard, Patchy looks at Potty. In the final version, he gets back in the truck at looks at the camera when he talks to Potty.
  • In the storyboard, Potty looks angry at Patchy for getting the directions wrong. In the final version, Potty just looks surprised.
  • In the final version, it shows the outside of the truck when Patchy sings the directions. In the storyboard, it shows Patchy.
  • In the storyboard, it shows Potty jumping when he sings the directions. In the final version, he is sitting and then the exterior of the truck is shown again.
  • In the storyboard, when the scene stops spinning, the truck is tilted to the left. In the final version, it is tilted to the right.
  • In the storyboard, the Bikini Bottom sign-in on the right and does not have any writing on it. In the final version, the sign is on the left and does have writing on it.
  • When Conch Street is shown, it is at a different angle in the storyboard and the final version.
  • When SpongeBob is in bed, he is at a different angle in the storyboard and the final version. Gary and the Christmas decorations are also not in the scene in the storyboard but are in the final version.
  • In the storyboard, when SpongeBob wakes up, he stands up on the bed. In the final version, he does not.
  • In the storyboard, when SpongeBob takes out the lights, he is upside down. In the final version, he is right-side up.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob lassos the lights on his house. In the final version, he runs on the house and then lassos the lights on his house.
  • In the storyboard, when SpongeBob is done stringing the lights, he is on the right side of his house. In the final version, he is on the left side.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob runs on his house to get to the left side. In the final version, he just floats down.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob had to plug the lights in. In the final version, they just turn on when he is done.
  • Squidward had more major movements in the storyboard of the scene where he is hanging up lights than in the final version.
  • In the final version of the scene with the first Santa trap, Patrick is wearing a scarf. In the storyboard, he is not.
  • In the storyboard of the part where Santa shows up at Patrick's rock, only his head is shown. In the final version, his upper body is shown.
  • In the storyboard, the cookie in Patrick's trap does not have a string on it. In the final version, it does.
  • In the storyboard, after the cookie is shown, Patrick is holding a string. In the final version, he is not.
  • In the storyboard, when Sandy is first shown, the Christmas Analyzer is smaller than in the final version and she is wearing a lab coat. In the final version, she is not wearing a lab coat.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob's entrance into the treedome is shown. In the final version, it is not.
  • In the storyboard, Mr. Krabs is next to a tree when he is first shown. In the final version, he near a table.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob spins around the front of the tree and ends up in front of Mr. Krabs on the left of the tree. In the final version, he does not do this.
  • In the storyboard, when Mr. Krabs explains why he loves Christmas, his whole body is shown. In the final version, only the upper half of his body is shown.
  • In the storyboard, after Mr. Krabs says, "The more you give, the more I get," presents appear. In the final version, they do not.
  • In the storyboard, the Chum Bucket's frozen dining area is shown before the lab. In the final version, just the lab is shown.
  • In the storyboard, when Plankton says, "...his eye on me," he is shown alone on the stool. In the final version, he is next to a machine.
  • In the storyboard, when Plankton shows the list of naughty deeds, he is leaning to the right. The list is also less detailed than in the final version. In the final version, he is leaning to the left.
  • In the storyboard, Plankton's stocking has his name on it. In the final version, it does not.
  • In the storyboard, the paper with Jerktonium on it is already on the periodic table. It is on the left side of the slide and it is nailed on it. Plankton uses a pointer to point it out. In the final version, he sticks the post-it notepaper on the right side of the slide.
  • In the storyboard, Jerktonium looks like a floating rock. In the final version, it looks like a crystal.
  • When Plankton says, "The Fruitcake," in the final version, an image of a fruitcake appears. In the storyboard, it does not.
  • When Plankton says, "Once ingested no one can help turning into the biggest, creepiest, meanest jerk ever," in the final version, he is walking around. In the storyboard, he is looking at the Jerktonium.
  • In the storyboard, when Plankton is about to remove the Jerktonium, Karen gives Plankton the pliers. In the final version, he just has the pliers.
  • The Jerkmaker-9000 looks different in the storyboard and final version.
  • In the storyboard, the first piece of fruit cake is square-shaped. In the final version, it is bread-shaped.
  • In the storyboard, when Plankton asks how SpongeBob's dander is and SpongeBob replies, he still has some of the second pieces of fruit cake left. In the final version, he has eaten it all and gets the third piece.
  • In the storyboard, there is only one key to the Jerkmaker-9000. In the final version, there are two.
  • I*n the storyboard, the carolers look different than in the final version.
  • In the storyboard, the Jerkmaker-9000 is leaning away from the carolers. In the final version, it is leaning towards them.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob is behind the parade. In the final version, he is on a hill, watching it.
  • The parade is different in the storyboard than it is in the final version.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob's parents were planned to appear during the song Don't Be a Jerk (It's Christmas) when SpongeBob sings "It's the time for family and holly and turkey." However, in the final version, they are replaced with SpongeBob's friends.

Season 9

• "License to Milkshake" - In the storyboard, while Captain Frostymug falls, he makes a beard out of whipped cream. He also has a red beard instead of a gray beard.

• "Lost in Bikini Bottom" - The pay phone was different in the final version than it was in the storyboard version. The original title for this episode was "The Shortcut."

• "Sanctuary!" - This episode's working title was "One Snail Sponge."
• "What's Eating Patrick?" - In the storyboard version, in the scene where Patrick is starting training when the scene enters Patrick's mouth to show his taste buds, it shows his mouth and then the taste buds. In the final version, it shows Patrick's tongue instead of his mouth.
• "Larry's Gym" - In the storyboard version, Larry says that the only thing worse than donuts is ground glass and then smashes a glass cup in a fish's mouth. Interestingly, the scene of the fish becoming dizzy afterwards still happens in the final episode.

• "Married to Money" - When this episode was announced in September 2015, it was going to be about Mr. Krabs marrying a bag of money. However, this idea was later changed to a stack of cash known as Cashina for unknown reasons, possibly because it makes more sense for it to be a stack of cash.

Season 10

• "Whirly Brains" - According to the rough storyboard, there's a transition that got changed in the final cut. Originally, the box the Whirly Brains came in appeared on SpongeBob's TV, the camera zooms into the screen, and then we fade to the box on SpongeBob's lawn. It was replaced with the usual bubble wipe for unknown reasons. Also, Squidward originally had a nose warmer on him while bathing. In the German dub, the title card is mistakenly cut.
• "Mermaid Pants" - The original title for this episode was "Mermaid Pants and Barnacle Star." For unknown reasons, it was shortened later on. Some sources list it by the original title.
• "Unreal Estate" - According to an animatic posted by Vincent Waller, Squidward's painting Bold and Brash was supposed to reappear in this episode.
• "Code Yellow" - In the rough storyboard version, when Squidward and SpongeBob talk about noses, SpongeBob daydreams a nose working at the Krusty Krab when Squidward says "nose job." This never made it into the final episode because it was time-consuming. Squidward's noses originally included a red nose, a female hairstyle, his head being replaced by a robot, and a human nose. The storyboard had scenes of the nurse giving Squidward anesthesia.
• "Mimic Madness" - In the original storyboard, when Sandy and Plankton are playing chess and SpongeBob mimics them, Karen comes out of the Chum Bucket and laughs at SpongeBob's impression of Plankton. She does not appear in the final cut.
  • Also in the original storyboard is a scene where, after imitating Tom, SpongeBob imitates a customer trying to order; the customer laughs and pulls on his cheeks.
• "Plankton Gets the Boot" - Multiple scenes were changed between the rough storyboard and the finished episode.
  • Karen's screensaver depicts flying blenders in the storyboard, while it shows flying toasters in the finished episode.
  • After seeing SpongeBob drinking, Plankton visits the houses of Larry the Lobster, Mrs. Puff, Squidward, his parents, and a sentient toilet before going back to SpongeBob.
• "Life Insurance" - In the rough storyboard version, instead of falling down the stairs at the beginning of the episode, SpongeBob would do his morning routine while the advertisement for life insurance played on his TV, and eventually, the advertiser's foot would come out of the TV and trip SpongeBob to get his attention. Fiasco would angrily rip up his painting after SpongeBob and Patrick run through it.
• "The Incredible Shrinking Sponge" - In the storyboard of this episode, SpongeBob lands in mustard after burning his feet on the grill. However, in the actual episode, he lands in ketchup instead of mustard. Whether this was intentional or an error is unknown.
• "Feral Friends" - According to the rough storyboard, there is a deleted scene. Plankton waits for Karen to bring him dinner, but Neptune's Moon turns him into a feral copepod. When Karen brings his food over, she mistakes feral Plankton for a bug and swats him away.
  • When asked why this was removed, Vincent Waller stated it was due to time constraints.

Season 11

• "Cave Dwelling Sponge" - The rough storyboard contains a few scenes that were taken out of the episode.
  • Patrick's tongue gets wrapped around multiple different rocks, instead of just one.
  • Spongy Spongy tries to bite Gary and licks his slime.
  • While in the sink, Spongy Spongy eats soap.
  • When SpongeBob is taken to prison, he blows bubbles with his fellow prisoners before he goes to speak with Mr. Krabs.
  • After punching SpongeBob, Spongy Spongy shakes SpongeBob's hand.
• "Spin the Bottle" - In the rough storyboard version, SpongeBob fills the bottle with water and drinks from it. It was likely cut to save time.
• "The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom" - The stop-motion models of Mrs. Puff and Pearl from "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" were originally going to appear, but their scenes had to be cut from the final episode for time.
  • There also used to be a scene where SpongeBob and Patrick would look at Plankton's perception of Krabby Patties, "people patties," close up.
• "No Pictures Please" - The rough storyboard contains multiple scenes that were cut from the episode.
  • Patrick puts the glove on his head after slapping the fish.
  • In the storyboard, Patrick's neck is caught in the window. In the finished version, it is only Patrick's face.
  • Patrick kicks a can after seeing the bus for the first time.
  • The Tram's Travels tour guide is less enthusiastic.
  • The tour guide hat has the word "GUIDE" on it.
  • The Tram's Travels tour guide cuts in line and bangs on the bathroom door.
  • In the finished version, Patrick pulls down a mirror on the bus. In the storyboard, it is already there.
  • Patrick's tour guide hat shines after he sees it in the mirror.
  • Rube's shirt has flowers on it in the storyboard.
  • The Tram's Travels tour guide curls into a ball and falls over, instead of exploding.
  • After Patrick kisses the stone, his head comes off and flies into the trash can. In the finished version, his neck stretches out but is still attached to his body.
  • During the whole scene, in the finished version, Patrick holds a flashlight. In the storyboard, he does not.
  • In the storyboard, Patrick eats the ice cream cone with his mouth. In the finished version, he eats it with his stomach.
  • Patrick and Rube visit a park. Patrick sees a fish sitting on a bench and reading a book, then takes his toupee off. The fish runs off, covering his head with the book, and Patrick puts the toupee on top of his tour guide hat.
  • While Rube is falling, Patrick hands him a parachute.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob's mouth is closed while he sleeps. In the finished version, SpongeBob snores.
  • In the storyboard, Plankton is crushed by the pole Patrick set in front of the Krusty Krab. In the finished version, he is run over by an old fish in a wheelchair.
  • In the storyboard, Patrick flushes soda cans down the toilet. In the finished version, he flushes toilet paper.

• "My Leg!" - The rough storyboards had many scenes that were changed or deleted.
  • During the montage at the start of the episode, Bubble Bass has a scene where he eats while driving, and runs over Fred's leg.
  • The scene where Fred's leg was run over by a mobility scooter was going to be set at the Recreation Center, and would have featured Jim and the purple wrestler in a wrestling match.
  • Nurse Bazooka's nametag read "Daisy" in the storyboard.
  • The "My Leg!" song was different from the present version, as Fred and the other patients stay in their beds as Fred sings the song.
• "Ink Lemonade" - In the rough storyboard, there is a deleted scene where SpongeBob is talking to Crab Lady, and she looks like a crab instead of a fish. She was remodeled as a fish in the final storyboard because the walking animation would look better.
• "Mustard O' Mine" - SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick were originally going to ride a snail camel. They would melt in the sun and be spit out by the snail.
• "Shopping List" - The rough storyboards reveal several scenes being changed or deleted.
  • When SpongeBob pats Matilda, it acts like a dog, happily shaking its propeller-like a tail. Matilda is shaped like a normal submarine instead of an acorn.
  • When SpongeBob starts to suffocate inside Matilda, Plankton is shown drying up and trying to breathe.
  • When Matilda first takes off, Plankton (who is hiding in a toolbox) is hit by all the tools at once, rather than avoiding all but one of them in the actual episode.
  • SpongeBob and Sandy travel to the Kelp Forest to gather long-grained seaweed, a plant that releases extremely poisonous spores if pulled out of the ground. They safely harvest the seaweed, but Plankton doesn't, and he is poisoned by the spores and swells up.
• "Whale Watching" - In the original storyboard, Sadie looked more like a mermaid-whale hybrid doll.
• "Patnocchio" - In the rough storyboard, Karen the Computer Fairy starts telling the story outside the Chum Bucket.
• "Karen's Virus" - Karen was originally going to visit the Krusty Krab and sneeze radiation on the customers.

Season 12

• "The Nitwitting" - There was originally going to be a scene of SpongeBob doing a silly dance.

• "Swamp Mates" - There was going to be a part where Bubble Bass and Patrick get leeches on them.
  • In the Amazon version of the episode, the scene where Patrick and Bubble Bass' log falls over is cut.
• "The Krusty Bucket" - There was originally going to be a scene of a kid fish trying to avoid a bunch of objects being thrown while Mr. Krabs and Plankton were fighting.
• "Broken Alarm" - There are differences between the storyboard version and the final version of the episode. The final version's changes are described below.
  • The background of the scene where Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and the Bikini Bottomites prepare to enter SpongeBob's room is different, and different Bikini Bottomites are present.
  • Squidward does not face the Bikini Bottomites and do the "head nod" present in the storyboard, instead only beginning to smile once Mr. Krabs says "horror". Various expressions and angles of characters are also changed, and the "c'mon!" from Squidward and Mr. Krabs is absent.
  • Mr. Krabs does not push Squidward back after he places his hand on SpongeBob's bedroom door, and Squidward smiles, but does not grin until Mr. Krabs says "horror".
  • Squidward's head is not peeking through the door when it opens.
  • The camera pans to SpongeBob's bed instead of zooming out, and his bed is facing a different direction. SpongeBob is sprawled over the bed differently, without a blanket over his body.
  • Gary does not lick SpongeBob until the camera cuts to SpongeBob's face.
  • The group does not rush over to SpongeBob's bed until later. SpongeBob also does not have the stubble present in the storyboard.
  • Mr. Krabs' teeth are not present, and Squidward is not seen in the background.
  • SpongeBob does not wake up until after Gary is lifted off his face, not during that moment, and he also has added bubbles above his face. Gary's tongue is also not on SpongeBob's face as he is being removed.
  • Gary's spit does not land on SpongeBob's face, and SpongeBob's mouth does not "zing" back onto his face.
  • Because the cast of Bikini Bottomites is different, one of them does not put a hat back on.
  • The camera is not zoomed out when the Bikini Bottomites leave SpongeBob's room. Squidward and Mr. Krabs do not turn towards them, only looking with their eyes.
  • Mr. Krabs picks SpongeBob up and squeezes him, unlike the storyboard, where he places his claws on SpongeBob.
  • When being told he is alive, SpongeBob has a different reaction, gasping and grabbing Mr. Krabs' eyes and screaming in the storyboard, and the storyboard notes "blink!" and "mini-take on 'late 4 work'". It is likely that when SpongeBob is screaming, he is expressing that he is late for work, and then he realizes what he has just said. Mr. Krabs and Squidward's dialogue probably also was different because of this. Squidward also has an added eye-roll in the final version.
  • Before he pats his alarm clock, SpongeBob has a different expression as he gets down from the bed and does not clutch his bed in agony.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob's foot is present next to the alarm clock's plug when he realizes it is unplugged, and his expression is slightly different.
  • SpongeBob's look of surprise is different as the alarm clock falls.
  • No one ducks when the alarm clock crashes around the room, and SpongeBob chooses to hide under the blanket instead of behind the bed.
  • The bed does not "spit out" the clock.
  • Mr. Krabs and Squidward have different expressions and poses as they dodge the alarm clock. Squidward does not have the look of relief in the storyboard, and on the board, Mr. Krabs looks up at Squidward. The clock also hits Squidward at a different angle.
  • SpongeBob catches Gary by the shell in the final, not by his bottom.
  • Instead of "smoking" the clock, Squidward has his head stuck in it.
  • Mr. Krabs' arms are forward instead of to the side, and he looks up at Squidward.
  • SpongeBob picks up pieces of the clock while speaking, and Gary is not on screen. He also puts his arms out, cuddles the pieces of the clock, puts his fist down, and then puts his arms around it.
  • Mr. Krabs crosses his arms and warns SpongeBob to not be late before leaving the room. Squidward rubs his head, and Mr. Krabs has an added "or else. In the storyboard, Squidward rubs his head later and SpongeBob looks towards Mr. Krabs and Squidward as they look away and leave.
  • Ellipses are added to the "1 Hour Later..." time card.
  • Mr. Krabs's late notices simply say "late" instead of "late notice" and are white with red text instead of red with white text.
  • SpongeBob is knocked out of bed by the punching bag clock instead of getting a black eye and remaining asleep in bed.
  • The "Late Again..." time card has four flowers, and some are moved.
  • The hive alarm clock was originally a volcano alarm clock, so SpongeBob is burnt and charred with smoke instead of being swollen and pink.
  • SpongeBob is originally not on fire, but electric, as if he had been stung by a Jellyfish. It is almost as if these two clocks were swapped.
  • The arrows have added plungers in the final version.
  • Gary's food bag is not labeled "Snail Po" and the snail on the bag is facing a different direction. The bag also has an added stripe.
  • In the scene with the large beeping clock reading "6:00", the cart in front of SpongeBob's bed is missing until the next shot, when it is not missing in the storyboard.
  • Roman numerals are added to the clock at the intersection.
  • The painting of The Persistence of Memory looks more like the original version.
  • In the storyboard, SpongeBob faces forward in this scene, while in the previous shot, he was sent to face backward. This is fixed in the final version.
  • Mr. Krabs waves his claws when saying "that last 'for else'".
• "Mind the Gap" - In one scene, the fish present is different from the storyboard.
  • Squidward's eyes are slightly different when he says "best friend".
• "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout" - In the thirty-minute version, all party planning scenes are cut, along with the "pie dragon" chase and paperclip jungle scenes. Old Man Walker isn't present, SpongeBob's house isn't destroyed, some lines were changed and Patrick is in a different position throughout the birthday song.
  • In some countries, John Goodman is present.
  • In the YouTube version of the Trusty Slab scene, one piece of dialogue is slightly different.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

There is a deleted scene in the animatic version that's included on the special features of the DVD release. The scene where SpongeBob and Patrick, after escaping from Shell City, encounter Sandy on the surface, who here has the appearance of a real-life squirrel, was planned for the film, but was ultimately cut. The scene was removed due to Patrick vomiting. In the same deleted scene, Shell City is a city and is

where Sandy constantly gets pursued all over the place by squirrel exterminators in black suits. She also mentions that there are buses that arrive here and Bikini Bottom. Also, during SpongeBob's awakening in The Goofy Goober Party Boat, he asks for a "double fudge spinny." This line was rejected from the film but was still used in the Ice Cream Dreams book which is loosely based on the ice cream sequence in the movie. There is also a deleted scene where Mr. Krabs appears in SpongeBob's room with the "MANAGER" hat. This was cut due to saving time, or that the team thought the ending was a bit dull.

However, the deleted scene of them meeting Sandy on the surface was later recycled into the second movie when SpongeBob and his friends are surprised by Sandy's superhero ability to be a giant real-life squirrel named "The Rodent." In the first teaser trailer, Gary is shown enjoying taking a bath with SpongeBob as the latter plays with his water toys. It was cut to save time. • After Mr. Krabs says, "It started out as a simple order, a Krabby Patty with cheese," SpongeBob would've said, "So what went wrong?" before the rest of the scene continues normally. Interestingly, this line is still included in the video-game.

• The animatics include a scene of SpongeBob walking to the Krusty Krab.
• Phil's line when he starts talking about his family was slightly altered from the animatics. He originally said. "Yeah yeah, I've got a lovely wife, and two beautiful children," this was shortened to "I've got a wife and two beautiful children."
• When SpongeBob starts choosing his tool in the Animatic, he says, "I've only got one shot at this. I've got to have the right tool for the job. Bingo!," before he would've said, "I want you to do a favor, Phil." The "Bingo!" line was fully animated.
• There's a fully animated scene of SpongeBob putting cheese on the patty, which was used in a trailer.
• In the animatic, the "ceremony" when SpongeBob says, "Today is the grand opening ceremony of the Krusty Krab 2!" is missing. He also says, "and the announcement of new manager!," instead of "where Mr. Krabs will announce the new manager."
• When SpongeBob is depressed at Goofy Goober's in the animatic, he sings, "Goofy goofy goober goober yeah," this is missing in the final. Also, it's shot from in-front of SpongeBob in the animatic, instead of behind.
• In the animatic version, the scene of Patrick's toy getting thrown at him is missing. The scene of SpongeBob hearing "Triple Goober Berry Sunrise" is also missing.
• SpongeBob says, "ah" before "Boy, Pat" in the animatic.
• When SpongeBob asks for another serving, he refers to the waiter as a "bartender."
• There's an extra scene with SpongeBob and Patrick is with Goofy Goober in the animatic. The scene starts with SpongeBob saying "Let me hear you, people," before a son asks his mother if they can go home. SpongeBob and Patrick call them party poopers before they say "Waiter!." This also means the "it's a little ditty called" line is skipped.
• After SpongeBob wakes up, the animatic includes this extra scene. The bartender says "I'm tryin' to get outta here!," before SpongeBob asks for a "double fudge spinny," before the bartender tells him that it's "eight in the morning."
• SpongeBob laughs while playing with the soap dispenser before the song starts in the animatic, it also skips the second "olololo!" "yeyeye!"
• One of the people in the bar says "I'm gonna find out who did it!" instead of "Somebody in here ain't a real man."
• When SpongeBob asks Patrick to not sing along during the test, he refers to him by Pat.
• After Squidward starts realizing Plankton's plan, there's a deleted scene of the car driver saying "that's right," before the car drives away, and Squidward saying, "Something smells fishy around here. And for once it isn't my long break."
• Once Squidward enters the Chum Bucket, he says "So, you're selling the Krabby Patty, eh Plankton?," instead of "So you're selling Krabby Patties, eh, Plankton?"
• After SpongeBob and Patrick stop laughing at Patrick's Victor imitation, there's an unused line with SpongeBob "How about when he's all like? Well, well, well looks like we've got ourselves a double baby!" before Patrick would've said. "And then they were all like. It wasn't us, it wasn't us!"
• The scene of Patrick saying "hi" to one of the skulls isn't present in the animatic. SpongeBob's response to Patrick is also missing.
• When Patrick saves SpongeBob, he doesn't ask if he has the ice cream in the animatic.
• The beginning of Now That We're Men includes the extended intro from the background track, Fight! Fight! Fight!.
• When Patrick's pants are ripped off, it shows the monster that ripped it off.
• The last verse of Now That We're Men has very different shots.
• Of course, there's the infamous unused real-life Sandy sequence.
• A fully made scene of David Hasselhoff jumping out of the water.

• Burger-Beard explains that the Magic Book's powers can only be activated by having the Krabby Patty formula. However, that idea was scrapped. Now things can come true by re-writing the story even without the formula.
• In one version of the scene where Patrick (not as Mr. Superawesomeness) eats the ice cream, it is on a beach, not in the kid's hand.
• Sandy in her treedome is doing the hypothesis of hunger on a chalkboard. Once Sandy is done doing that, the The End page lands on her treedome. This scene was changed to Sandy in her treedome eating a Krabby Patty while watching Bikini Bottom action news on her TV.
• A scene of Burger-Beard the Pirate in his ship, telling his seagulls a story about him when he was younger. This was most likely cut to save time.
• SpongeBob and Plankton time-traveling to the Mesozoic era, where they encounter Patrickosaurus and Squidasaurus Rex. This scene was taken out of the movie but was instead put in the video game, as our heroes encounter both dinosaurs. This was either cut to save time or to surprise the audience when Patrick returns to the present with the Squidasaurus Rex.
  • Another time-traveling scene had SpongeBob and Plankton visiting Bikini Bottom in the future twice with all of the citizens being cyborgs and steam-powered cyborgs. But it was cut possibly to save time or it was changed to a desert part of Bikini Bottom.
• One part shows Mr. Krabs serving Nasty Patties to the customers. This was cut because it would not look pretty if a customer ate one after all these years.
• A mad car chase scene with SpongeBob and Plankton and ends with SpongeBob receiving an F- from Mrs. Puff after crashing. This was cut for unknown reasons.
• A montage of Mr. Krabs thoroughly cleaning SpongeBob's brain, similar to "Brainwashing," this was cut to save time.
• Plankton telling SpongeBob to make Krabby Patties by using his muscles at the Taco Haüs. This was scrapped and instead replaced with SpongeBob, Plankton, and Karen building a time machine with using stuff inside Taco Haüs.

• According to Vincent Waller the plot was originally about space cats, but it was scrapped for unknown reasons.
• Some animatics were uploaded to YouTube without dialogue, which included:
  • One of the scenes included SpongeBob jumping out of a helicopter before the space cats chase him and the rest of the gang into a house. SpongeBob (who is human-sized unlike most times he appears the surface) teams up with a kid and stops the cats using water.
  • Another animatic scene included the space cats on ships talking. Since there's no dialogue, the context of the scene is currently unknown.
  • There was also a shot where SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy are talking in the treedome. Sandy is working on a vehicle, Patrick digs out a worm for unknown reasons, then SpongeBob gets excited running up the dome. Just like the space cats animatic the context for this scene is unknown.
  • The last deleted scene discovered featured SpongeBob and Gary in a dolphin spaceship leading a cat ship into a black hole. SpongeBob and Gary then remember the good times they've had before heading towards it.
• When SpongeBob first searches for Gary, the slime was originally green, but was later changed to blue.
  • Also, when SpongeBob looks in Gary's litter box in the first trailer, Gary's droppings are visible in his litter box, but in the second trailer, it is removed.

Airings of episodes in other countries occasionally cut out scenes, sometimes due to different cultural standards or simple editing mistakes.

• "Help Wanted" - The scene where SpongeBob serves up Krabby Patties to the angry anchovies while Tiny Tim sings "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight" was cut in Italy for unknown reasons. It was likely due to copyright issues.
• "Ripped Pants" - In some overseas airings of this episode, including Italy, the episode would end when the concert was just beginning.
• "Jellyfishing" - In early Polish airings, the scene where Patrick jams the net through Squidward's bandaged hand was cut, because it was deemed too violent. In the later airings, the scene was restored for unknown reasons.
• "Naughty Nautical Neighbors" - In early Polish airings, the scene where Squidward chokes on the fork is cut due to its violent content. In the later airings, the scene was restored for unknown reasons.
• "Pizza Delivery" - At the end of the episode, Squidward's line "Oh, my aching tentacles!" was cut in some countries due to the line being mistaken for an inappropriate reference (causing the screen to go black when the line is said). It is also cut on the Nicktoons Collection Volume One Game Boy Advance cartridge. It is still intact on the DVD and digital releases. Sometime in 2013, it was also deleted from Polish and Greek airings. In Nicktoons U.S. airings, the line is left intact.
• "Jellyfish Jam" - In early Polish airings, the scene where SpongeBob does the jellyfish dance was cut. This was likely done to prevent epileptic or photosensitive children from suffering seizures due to the quick flashing lights and stroboscopic effects. In the later airings, the scene was restored for unknown reasons.
• "Scaredy Pants" - In British airings, the scene depicting Patrick cutting chunks of SpongeBob's head is removed, although it was left intact on the UK DVD releases.
• "Hooky" - In the early Polish, the UK, Norwegian airings, the scene where Patrick eats the cheese off the hook and has all hooks in his mouth was cut due to reckless behavior. In the later airings, the scene was restored for unknown reasons but was left cut in the UK apart from the scene where Patrick eats the first bit of cheese.
• "Wormy" - The "That's What Friends Do" song was cut in Italy.
• "Welcome to the Chum Bucket" - In early Italian airings, "This Grill is Not a Home" is cut.
• "Band Geeks" - In the Persian and Italian dubs, "Sweet Victory" is cut due to unknown reasons. It was likely due to copyright reasons.
• "Jellyfish Hunter" - In the UK, the scene where the blue jellyfish cuts the power in SpongeBob's house is replaced with a shot of SpongeBob's door.
• "The Fry Cook Games" - In some countries, the scene where SpongeBob and Patrick hold hands is cut as it is thought to be wrong for two men to be doing this.

• "SquidBob TentaclePants" - The original airing had Squidward talking to a therapist after Sandy's machine exploded, and was deformed and misshapen into a liquid ball of the fused characters that was in the scene where Sandy's machine exploded. This scene was cut from reruns in certain parts of Europe due to being considered too gruesome, though it remains intact in the USA, UK, Turkey, Canada, Spain, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Greece, France airings, and DVD versions.
  • However, In some areas of Kentucky, the ending scene where several different characters are fused with Squidward was at one point cut out, as the cable provider, Insight Communications, has been known to censor explicit content from television.
• "Whale of a Birthday" - Some countries cut the ending, possibly due to the screen going black.
• "The Play's The Thing" - In the UK, the scene where multiple items, including Plankton, are thrown at Squidward and SpongeBob is cut for unknown reasons. Patrick throwing the anchor, and Squidward saying "Oh boy..." is also cut.
• "Walking the Plankton" - In the UK, the scene where Plankton falls into a fish's pants is cut.
• "Squiditis" - In the UK, The Scene where SpongeBob puts his feet in the fryer is cut, however, he is seen in the next scene screaming with the Crispy Feet.
• "Bubble Buddy Returns" - In the UK, the scene where SpongeBob opens the last door and thinks Shiny Bubble is there is cut for unknown reasons.
• "Are You Happy Now?" - There are two suicide jokes in this episode. The first is when Squidward puts his head in the oven to get out burned food, and the second is when Squidward has a rope and pretends to hang himself, but he is hanging up the birdcage. These two scenes are removed in the UK.
• "Treats!" In some countries, the scene where Gary attempts to escape the cage is cut, possibly because it is not encouraged and is dangerous.
• "Out of the Picture" - In the UK, the scene where the art appraiser mimes hanging himself to demonstrate to Mr. Krabs what "out of the picture" means is removed, possibly due to references of suicide or death.
• "My Leg!" - In The UK, The Love Train Heading for Fred's Leg and Mr. Robot Throwing the Love Train Away Was Cut.
• "Surf N' Turf" - In the UK version, Mr. Krabs does not smash the bottles.

• "Shell Games" - In the UK, the scene when Tony bangs Breakfast in a Can on his head is cut for unknown reasons.
• "Mind the Gap" - In the UK, the scenes where Squidward uses a drill on SpongeBob's teeth and SpongeBob drinks bubble soap are cut out for unknown reasons. In the scene in which Squidward pushes SpongeBob's teeth together, it works instead of the teeth pushing Squidward away, and in the scene in which the screw falls loose, the screw and holes in SpongeBob's teeth are removed.

• "SpongeBob in RandomLand" - In the UK version (and the international digital version), Squidward only opens the first two doors instead of three. The third door showed Red Mist Squidward behind it, which could have been cut possibly because of the inappropriate nature, what these references or the fact that the scene may look too scary for kids. The scene later got removed from reruns in the USA in November 2019, being replaced with Baby Squidward. Canadian airings on YTV still air this episode uncut as of December 2019.
• "Lighthouse Louie" - In the UK version, SpongeBob does not chew the hat up and blow it up, he just blows it up into the boxes.

Changed Scenes on DVDs

• The song "Mavericks" were removed from some DVD releases of season 1 episodes. However, the music is still present in Region 4 releases.
• "Christmas Who?" - On The Complete 2nd Season, Patchy's line at the beginning of the second half of the episode, "It's about time you got back! Now I can finish me story!" is cut due to there being no commercials on the DVD. The scene is still intact on the Christmas DVD.
• "Shanghaied" - In the DVD release of the Sea Stories DVD, the Patchy segments are cut.
• "Ugh" - The French Narrator saying, "Stay tuned to SpongeBob B.C.," Patchy getting hit with a big rock, and the French Narrator saying, "They discovered fire. How long are they gonna take to mess it up? Let's see" are all cut from The Complete 3rd Season and The First 100 Episodes DVDs due to there being no commercials. These scenes are still intact on the SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric DVD and VHS. It can also be found on the Nick Picks Volume 1 DVD.

• "The Great Snail Race" - The TV version credits Joe Liss as one of the writers, while the DVD versions credit Merriwether Williams.
• "The Sponge Who Could Fly" - In the TV version of the episode, right after SpongeBob lands in a feather delivery truck and says, "I guess I spoke too soon," there is a scene right before a commercial break with the French Narrator saying, "Will SpongeBob learn to fly? Stay tuned." This scene was cut from the DVD releases because there are no commercials on the DVD. However, this deleted scene is still intact on the Lost at Sea VHS tape. • "Have You Seen This Snail?" - On The First 100 Episodes, the opening scene where Patchy the Pirate says, "Ahoy, it's a SpongeBob SquarePants special!" is cut. This opening is left intact on the Where's Gary? (DVD).
• "Pest of the West" - On The First 100 Episodes, the opening scene where Patchy the Pirate says, "Ahoy, it's a SpongeBob SquarePants special!" is cut.
• "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?" - On Season 5 Volume 2, The First 100 Episodes, The Complete Fifth Season, and The Best 200 Episodes Ever DVDs, the opening scene where Patchy the Pirate says, "Ahoy, it's a SpongeBob SquarePants special!" is cut. The "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?" version of the "SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song" is also cut because it is not the first episode on the disc(s) it is contained on. The "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?" version of the "SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song" is left intact on the SpongeBob's WhoBob WhatPants? DVD.
• "The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom" - The special theme song used for "The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom" is not present on The Complete Eleventh Season DVD. However, it is left intact on The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom DVD.

Sometimes, a scene is deleted after voice recording is already completed. When this happens, the voice actors and/or characters from the scene are occasionally kept in the final credits.

Mrs. Puff's dad name in the credits for "Doing Time"

• "Doing Time" - There was going to be a scene where Mrs. Puff's dad would appear, as his name is still listed in the credits of the episode, with Tom Kenny being credited for voicing him. His dialogue had already been recorded when he was cut from the episode. C.H. Greenblatt, who storyboarded and co-wrote "Doing Time," said that he did not remember anything about the episode when asked about Mrs. Puff's father in 2017.

Pearl Krabs is credited for a deleted scene.

• "Once Bitten" - Pearl is listed in the credits. She was originally featured in a deleted scene, and Lori Alan recorded dialogue for it. After the scene was cut, Lori Alan's credit remained.

Pearl is still credited for the deleted scene.

• "Enchanted Tiki Dreams" - Pearl is listed in the credits. In a deleted scene from this episode, the water was revealed to be coming from Pearl}}'s spout. She was cut from the final episode, but Lori Alan had already recorded her lines for the part, and Pearl is still credited in the ending credits.

• "Plankton's Good Eye" - Gary is listed in the credits.

The credits for "Mooncation"

• "Mooncation" - In a deleted scene, Tom Kenny voiced a button in the rocket ship that said "Sorry." The "sorry" line was listed in the credits as if it were a character name. Vincent Waller said in a tweet that he does not remember this scene in August 2017.

Karen is credited.

• "Fiasco!" - Karen and the inside of the Chum Bucket were featured in a deleted scene. Karen is still listed in the credits, indicating that Jill Talley recorded her lines for Karen before the scene was cut.
