This article is a complete list of deleted or cut scenes from SpongeBob SquarePants episodes. A deleted scene is any scene or bit of an episode that has been cut out of either the storyboard version, DVD releases, or in reruns after the original airing. A scene may also be cut from the episode after its initial airing.
Season 1[]
"Help Wanted"[]
In the original 1997 version of the pilot, there was a different opening with fast-paced action sequence music and colorful paintings of SpongeBob.[1] However, on May 1, 1999 after the 1999 Kids' Choice Awards, this episode officially aired with the famous theme song.
- In the 1997 version, there is a brief orchestral flourish with waves crashing and seagull noises over a black screen before the opening shot of Bikini Bottom. In the 1999 version, there is a title sequence for "Help Wanted."
- When Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight plays for a second time, the screen abruptly cuts to black in the 1997 version. In the 1999 version, the Krusty Krab stays on-screen until the episode ends. The song is also cut-off slightly in the 1999 version.
- In the storyboard, the scene in which SpongeBob wakes up and greets Gary originally showed Gary taking a bite from a cactus, about garden snails' tendency to feed on succulent plants. The 2007 book Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons! features a page from the original storyboard that includes this scene.
- The end credits for the 1997 and 1999 versions of "Help Wanted" have several differences, including:
- In the cast credits in the 1997 version, Bill Fagerbakke's name is misspelled as "Bill Fabberbakke." This error was corrected in the 1999 version.
- In the cast credits in the 1997 version, Patrick Star's name is misspelled as "Partick Star." This error was corrected in the 1999 version.
- Gary the Snail, who was voiced by Tom Kenny, is not credited in the 1997 version. This error was corrected in the 1999 version with Gary being added in.
- Carolyn Lawrence, who voiced Sandy, is not credited in the 1997 version. This is because "Tea at the Treedome" had not been produced yet.
- In the credits in the 1997 version, Erik Wiese's name is misspelled as "Erik Weise." This error was corrected in the 1999 version.
- In the credits in the 1997 version, the song "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight" is incorrectly listed as "Living in the Sunshine, Loving in the Moonlight."[sic] The same screen in the 1997 version also reads "written and performed by Tiny Tim (courtesy Reprise Records.)" with a period at the end. The 1999 version has the song listed as "Living in The Sunshine, Loving in The Moonlight."[sic] The same screen in the 1999 version also reads "written & performed by Tiny Tim (courtesy Reprise Records)" without a period at the end. The word "and" is written in ampersand form instead of letter form like in the 1997 version.
- Near the ending of the 1997 version, instead of the United Plankton Pictures, Inc. logo being displayed, there is a logo with the "Created By" text above, the SpongeBob sketch drawing in the middle, and the "Stephen Hillenburg" text below. This is because Stephen Hillenburg had not yet created the company.
- The 1997 version is the only episode to be produced by Games Animation, which would later be renamed to Nickelodeon Animation Studio the following year.
- At the ending of the 1997 version, there is an early Nicktoons logo that has a small and short copyright notice with a production date of 1997. The ending of the 1999 version has a more detailed and prolonged copyright notice with a production date of 1999.
- This is the first time where the copyright year does not match the actual production year, in this case, being the 1999 full version. However, this is because its sister episodes were produced in 1999.
"Reef Blower"[]
This episode's plot was completely different according to the 1996 pitch bible. It originally involved SpongeBob using a reef blower to clean his yard, only for it to become out of control causing SpongeBob to fly everywhere. Patrick comes out with a reef blower of his own and imitates SpongeBob. Because of the power of the two reef blowers, they erode the foundation of Squidward's house causing it to fall over with Squidward inside of it. This would’ve made Squidward fed up with the both of them and decides to move away with SpongeBob and Patrick trying to get him to come back. This plot would later be reused for "Squidville."
"Tea at the Treedome"[]
An original title card with a different background and font colors can be found on the SuperSponge asset discs. It is the only title card on the discs that does not match its final version. It has never been used in any broadcast, home video release, or streaming release of the episode. The old title card had a version excluding "Tea at" that was used in The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage!
- Additionally, in early American reruns, the Tales from the Deep DVD,[2] and the Deep Sea Sillies VHS releases of this episode, Edgar Larrazábal was incorrectly credited as the animation director instead of Tom Yasumi.[3][4]
Additionally, there was an unused shot of SpongeBob’s incredibly dry mouth during the “I don’t need it” scene. The shot was cut for unknown reasons (possibly due to it being unsettling to younger audiences) and was replaced with a second close up of SpongeBob’s eyes.
"Bubblestand"[]
The bubble that enters Squidward's house was originally going to be a tugboat and not an elephant.[5] At the end of this episode, when Squidward plays his clarinet weakly, a portion of the scene is cut on all Nickelodeon USA broadcasts ever since the original airing on July 17, 1999. This is due to the screen cutting to black when this happens. Despite this unusual edit, all Nicktoons USA and Nick@Nite broadcasts, international non-US airings, all digital and streaming releases on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, and iTunes, the VideoNow versions, The Seascape Capers VHS tape release, and all DVD releases retain this scene.
"Ripped Pants"[]
In the original airing of this episode, Paul Tibbitt's name is misspelled as "Paul Tibibitt" with an extra I between the Bs when credited as storyboard director in the opening credits. However, his name is spelled correctly when later credited as a writer. This error also happens with Mark O'Hare whose name is misspelled as "Mark O'hare" with a lowercase 'h'. These errors were corrected on later American reruns, international non-US airings, the Amazon Prime Video version, the VideoNow versions, most VHS tape releases except for Nautical Nonsense and Undersea Antics Volume 1, and most DVD releases except for Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies and Sponge Crazy.
"Jellyfishing"[]
An additional background of Squidward's house was made that wound up being unused.
"Plankton!"[]
There was a deleted shot of one of SpongeBob's pores during the scene where Plankton first enters his head.
"Pizza Delivery"[]
Early production images reveal that scenes featuring the Krusty Krab's clock and a neon sign signaling the restaurant being either open or closed were cut.
"Home Sweet Pineapple"[]
An early production image reveals that a scene featuring SpongeBob walking down his stairs as the nematodes eat his house was cut.
"Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy"[]
There is an unused watercolor painting of a cherry pie that was supposed to be used in this episode, likely during the scene at the Shady Shoals cafeteria, but it was cut for unknown reasons.
- There is also an unused painting of a third scene with a donut on SpongeBob's hand.
"Jellyfish Jam"[]
Since 2012, the title card is always skipped whenever this episode is broadcast on Nick@Nite.[6] This is because the Nick@Nite version uses an old non-remastered print from 1999. This error also occurs for the occasional "best of" compilations on Nickelodeon USA airings[7] and whenever this episode is paired up with another non-remastered episode outside of season 1 and early season 2.[8][9][10]
- The title card is left intact for all of the Nicktoons USA airings[11] and whenever Nickelodeon USA airs this episode with "Hall Monitor" because remastered prints are used.[12][13]
- For the April 2, 2021 airing, this episode was paired up with "Jellyfishing." The title card was retained because Nickelodeon used remastered prints for both episodes.[14][15]
"Squeaky Boots"[]
According to the 1996 pitch bible, this episode had a few scenes that weren't used in the final episode. There was originally a scene where SpongeBob could control the boots like a musical instrument, causing everyone to be impressed by his musical abilities.
- This episode also had a deleted scene at the end, as Mr. Krabs would end up buying the boots back from SpongeBob at an expensive price.[16]
"Opposite Day"[]
There is an unused painting of the Bikini Realty building that was meant for an establishing shot.
"F.U.N."[]
In the storyboard version, Plankton asks "So what happens after we shoot 'em?" and pretends to fire his jellyfish net like a rifle. SpongeBob responds "You don't shoot 'em!"[17] In the final episode, Plankton does still hold his net like a rifle, but does not pretend to fire it. Instead, he asks "So what happens after we eat 'em?" This change was likely due to the Columbine High School shooting, which occurred 5 months prior to this episode airing.
"Employee of the Month"[]
At one point, SpongeBob was going to be dressed as a pilgrim and Squidward would be tied up and on a plate, acting as a turkey. There was also another scene of SpongeBob being stuck in a cereal box, though this joke would later end up being used in "Artist Unknown".
"Scaredy Pants"[]
Right before SpongeBob sees Patrick in his Halloween costume, there were a couple cut frames of SpongeBob looking afraid.
When the Flying Dutchman removes SpongeBob's costume, there was originally going to be a close-up of SpongeBob's face, which was almost completely shorn-off for his ghost costume earlier in the episode. This was most likely removed for comedic timing, instead revealing what SpongeBob looked like after the Dutchman fled in terror.[18]
As of October 2020 onward, SpongeBob's line "Don't worry, it grows back!" at the end of this episode, was cut in Nickelodeon USA TV airings due to the line being said at an inappropriate timing (causing the screen to go black when the line is said). However, the line is left intact on all digital and streaming releases on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, and iTunes, all international non-US airings, the Halloween VHS tape release, DVD releases, and Nicktoons USA airings.
"I Was a Teenage Gary"[]
As of October 2020 onward, at the end of this episode when snail Squidward is saying, "Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow," his last "meow" is cut off in Nickelodeon USA and Nicktoons USA airings due to the line being said at an inappropriate timing (the screen slowly fading to black when the line is said). However, the line is left intact on all digital and streaming releases on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, and iTunes, all international non-US airings, the Halloween VHS tape release, and DVD releases.
"SB-129"[]
According to the "Show Design" special feature on the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD, it's stated by Nick Jennings how this episode was originally going to be about SpongeBob and Patrick time traveling, but it was replaced with Squidward.
"Sleepy Time"[]
According to a picture of a workprint of the episode posted by storyboard artist Adam Paloian on his Twitter account,[19] SpongeBob's license was originally going to look a bit different, with a different picture of SpongeBob and a different signature signed "S. Squarepants" instead of "SpongeBob SquarePants."
As shown in an early production image (found on eBay), a background of Pearl's bedroom was created for a scene in the episode. The scene featuring her room was cut, and the background was left unused.
"Suds"[]
Unused cels of Doctor Patrick holding a suitcase of medical supplies have been discovered on eBay. Additionally, an unused closeup painting of one of SpongeBob's plugged holes can be seen on a set of the SpongeBob SquarePants Trading Card Game from 2003.[18]
"Valentine's Day"[]
Sandy gives SpongeBob a heart-shaped acorn for Valentine's Day. There is an unused close-up of it, when the scene in the final episode is animated.
"The Paper"[]
In very early storyboarding stages, the episode's climax was originally going to be that Squidward's stack of belongings comes to life and SpongeBob has to defeat it with the piece of paper.[20]
"Arrgh!"[]
The storyboard features a cut scene. Right after SpongeBob says, "Hey! Mr. Krabs is getting all sweaty again!" there was going to be a vision of Mr. Krabs sitting atop and sniffing a pile of treasure.[21]
"Texas"[]
In the scene where SpongeBob doesn't want Sandy to leave before following her to the bus, there were several frames of SpongeBob swelling up and turning red in anticipation that got cut. Several cels and sketches have appeared on eBay. Twitter user LarryInc64 attempted to recreate the scene using the material found.[22]
"Walking Small"[]
There was a deleted painting of the plans for the Chum Bucket Mega Bucket.
In the remastered print of this episode on digital and streaming releases, the scene where SpongeBob gets a tan is different, his skin tone is orange instead of brown.[23][24][25][26] The original brown colored SpongeBob remains intact on the SpongeGuard on Duty VHS tape release, DVD releases, and international non-US airings of this episode.
"Neptune's Spatula"[]
There was an unused early background for the scene where SpongeBob reads a bed-time story for a Krabby Patty.[27]
"Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II"[]
- An early, unused animation cel reveals that the life-size Krabby Patty mannequins of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy at first were to be sculpted from raw Krabby Patty meat, rather than actual Krabby Patty sandwiches.
- An early storyboard included a scene where the judges of the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy fan contest began to nibble from the statues, which also never made it into the final print.
- There were three backgrounds of a Jewelry Store scene where it would have had its window accidentally broken.[28]
- An additional background of the First Nautical Bank was made.
- An additional background of a lower shot of the building that Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy are standing on when they are on patrol in the city.[18]
Season 2[]
"Something Smells"[]
- At the beginning of the episode's audio commentary on the Complete 2nd Season DVD, it is revealed that this episode was originally going to start with SpongeBob going out to buy every gallon of ice cream in town and not knowing the flavor of ice cream he buys is onion, then getting bad breath from eating it. But they later decided that he would make his sundae with ketchup, raw onions, and peanut plants with dirt.
- According to the audio commentary, it is mentioned that Squidward had a deleted line in the ending of this episode. After SpongeBob and Patrick hug him and run away, he would say, "Ugly and smelly, two for one," but it was cut due to the whole screen fading to black at the end.
"Big Pink Loser"[]
The episode would have included a scene with a trailer fish watching TV, as his wife asks why he cannot be more like SpongeBob and Patrick.
"Bubble Buddy"[]
During the scene at Goo Lagoon, there was a deleted scene of what seems to be burnt beachgoers. The exact contents of this scene are unknown and it was cut for unknown reasons.
"Dying for Pie"[]
- The "open-heart surgery" scene is different in the storyboard. After Squidward asks, "Are you sure you should be poking it like that?" SpongeBob asks, "Who's the doctor here, me or you?" and blood comes out of Squidward's heart. SpongeBob nervously plugs up the hole.
- When SpongeBob is showing Squidward to "everyone in town," he stops by a fish (Incidental 49A) working on a computer and greets them. When the fish looks out of the window, there is nobody there. A painting for the office building still exists.
"Grandma's Kisses"[]
The sideburns were originally mustaches in the storyboard version featured on The Seascape Capers DVD. Also in the storyboard is a deleted shot of SpongeBob and Patrick eating cookies together at the end.
"Squidville"[]
An unused background of a coffee shop was painted that never made it into the final episode.
"Prehibernation Week"[]
- According to the audio commentary, when Sandy rakes the leaves, she makes a big symbol for "girl power," but it was changed to Texas - likely because it fit better with her character. She also originally would have performed a whole gleeful dance routine when stepping on the leaves, but it had to be cut for time.
- There was also an alternate ending: when SpongeBob sees Sandy begin her hibernation, he would have said: "Why I oughta!" Ultimately, he would instead laugh, then say to himself, "I never thought I'd say it - but thank Neptune for hibernation!"
"Life of Crime"[]
There was originally going to be a sequence of SpongeBob and Patrick playing a game involving many sharp objects with the balloon. This was changed to SpongeBob and Patrick thinking about all the fun they could have with the balloon, then it popping - likely for its sudden humor delivery.[29]
"Christmas Who?"[]
Five scenes and lines were deleted. They all can be found on the Christmas DVD in the special features on the Christmas Who? storyboard.
- SpongeBob says, "Lookey who's next!" in one scene at the Krusty Krab. It was cut for unknown reasons.
- When they sing "The Very First Christmas," instead of Plankton and Mr. Krabs singing together, two Bikini Bottomites sing together.
- Squidward (as Santa) gives the first girl a plant resembling himself instead of a wrench.
- After Squidward gives the first girl the gift, SpongeBob says, "I told ya he was real!" enthusiastically.
- While waiting in line for Santa (as Squidward), Mr. Krabs says, "And don't forget about me pony!," referencing his earlier Christmas wish for a pony "with saddlebags full of money." This was cut for unknown reasons.
"Survival of the Idiots"[]
According to the audio commentary, Sandy's bed was hanging from the ceiling (like a hammock), and there was more saliva.
"Squirrel Jokes"[]
There is an unused close-up of Sandy's teeth from the scene in which SpongeBob is inspired to make jokes about the size of squirrel teeth. In the final episode, this shot is animated instead.
"Pressure"[]
Based on the caption "Can you do this?" from Jay Lender, SpongeBob would stick his tongue through his holes after asking Sandy what she can do. However, Lender comments that there is a chance that this scene may be from "Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm" instead.[30]
"Shanghaied"[]
In the original airing, viewers could pick who would get the last wish at the end of the episode. The number was 1 (800) 624-4094 to vote. After that, the number was disabled, so it can't now be called. As expected, SpongeBob results to be the winner. All subsequent airings only show SpongeBob's ending, although some DVDs do contain the alternate endings.
"Welcome to the Chum Bucket"[]
According to the audio commentary, there was a scene where Plankton takes out SpongeBob's brain before putting it in the robot. It was likely either cut for graphic content or to save time (this was replaced by a transition).
"Graveyard Shift"[]
The Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD features storyboards of this episode and a deleted scene in which SpongeBob does another activity "at night" as he delivers the mail to "Floorboard Harry" - a mysterious character who lived beneath the floorboards of the Krusty Krab - whose face was covered by one of the said floorboards - with a hole revealing an eye peeking out. Floorboard Harry was also originally going to be the one responsible for flickering the lights, not Nosferatu/Count Orlok.
- In the storyboard, after Squidward tells SpongeBob a scary story, SpongeBob ask him about multiple background fish that have various objects in place of their hands, such as a hook, a scythe, two toasters and a chainsaw. Lender described that the joke took away from the atmosphere and the Krusty Krab being empty, so it was cut.
"Procrastination"[]
The following scenes were removed by Nickelodeon on May 17, 2005[31] (and Nicktoons when they were rerunning the edited version) and hasn't been shown on the network ever since. Pluto TV airings of this episode don't have the deleted scenes as well. However, after years of airing the cut version, Nicktoons began airing the episode with the cut scenes restored on October 3, 2019.[32][33][34] SpongeBob imagines one day having his license, followed by archival footage of a drag race car crashing into a wall. This was removed most likely because Nickelodeon considered the scene to be violent, fearing that a young viewer might try to imitate the crash.
- A scene where SpongeBob practices calisthenics was removed because the up-and-down motion of SpongeBob's nose could be viewed as obscene.
All home media releases which include this episode as well as Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Nicktoons, and all international broadcasts retain the cut scenes. Formerly, the scenes were left intact for the Nickelodeon broadcasts from 2001 to 2005. [[File:SpongeBob SquarePants - "Procrastination" Deleted Scene (Highest quali
All home media releases which include this episode as well as Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Nicktoons, and all international broadcasts retain the cut scenes. Formerly, the scenes were left intact for the Nickelodeon broadcasts from 2001 to 2005.
"Sailor Mouth"[]
According to the audio commentary, the episode was planned to have a scene that had SpongeBob saying, "Go (dolphin noise) yourself" followed by Patrick saying, "(dolphin noise) you too!" during the Eels and Escalators Game. It was cut for the fact that the foul language used was quite easy to decipher.
"Artist Unknown"[]
Bold and Brash was originally going to appear more like a fish, as revealed in a production sketch.[35] This design made it into the show in "The Big Bad Bubble Bass."
"Jellyfish Hunter"[]
In the storyboards, the montage of SpongeBob catching jellyfish was extended, originally having two more grotesque paintings of Mr. Krabs.[36]
Also, the scenes where SpongeBob says “goodbye” to Twelvy and where No Name (aka Friend) breathes heavily into the phone before knocking the power in SpongeBob’s house out are cut in the Fisher-Price InteracTV version of the episode.
"The Fry Cook Games"[]
Since 2018, the title card is always skipped whenever this episode is broadcast on Nick@Nite.[37] Though the reason for this error is unknown, Nickelodeon USA airings use an old non-remastered print from 2001 with the title card left intact.[38] On Nicktoons USA airings since October 2019, they use a remastered print of this episode which also has the title card left intact.[39] com/watch?v=OFkbFPKmCaA&t=25s</ref>
- However, the old non-remastered print from 2001 retains the original sound effect, which is used on Nickelodeon USA and Nick@Nite airings, all international non-US airings, the Netflix version, The Seascape Capers VHS tape release, and DVD releases.
Season 3[]
"SpongeGuard on Duty"[]
In the storyboard version featured on the SpongeGuard on Duty DVD, a few scenes that were changed in the final cut:
- Incidental 103 and Incidental 150 playing inside a Orca kid were originally shown playing inside a crocodile.
- SpongeBob turning onto his back was originally him flipping into the air.
- When SpongeBob says, "Patrick isn't drowning!" the camera zooms on him at a dramatic angle.
"Club SpongeBob"[]
The official Facebook page for SpongeBob SquarePants Benelux posted on May 9, 2016 an unused painting of Squidward in a close-up,[40] a deleted or alternate scene.
"Just One Bite"[]
When Squidward awakes from his dream about marrying a Krabby Patty, he wakes up and he says, "I have got to get my hands on a Krabby Patty and no one's gonna stop me!" and runs past SpongeBob's house on tiptoes. When he's at the Krusty Krab, he says, "There it is, unguarded! All I have to do is...wait. It's too easy. There must be some kind of... security? This is our burglar alarm? A bucket of water? Ha-ha!" He kicks the door open and spills a bucket of liquid, then comments, "That was too easy!" He sniffs the liquid and realizes, "Hey, this isn't water. This is... gas!" A robot arm drops a lit match into the gas, resulting in a huge explosion. Squidward enters the kitchen, setting off another burglar alarm. The kitchen bursts into flames for a few seconds. Then, he walks over to the Patty Vault. Later airings have Squidward saying, "There it is!" and cut to the interior of Krusty Krab with the camera zooming in through the window to the Patty Vault. Squidward approaches it as he did in the original version. The rest of the episode goes normally.
This scene was cut from future airings of this episode, with reports of the scene being cut coming as early as January 2002, a mere three months after the episode originally aired.[41][42][43] Explanations for the removal were initially thought to be either to respect the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks, which occurred less than a month before the episode aired, or to prevent children from attempting to use and/or ignite gas.[44] Jay Lender, one of the writers for this episode, told SpongeBuddy Mania in January 2007 that while the unedited version of the episode initially went through every possible Nickelodeon approval, the September 11, 2001 attacks were a major factor in the subsequent decision to remove the scene along with a Standards and Practices issue.[45] On June 4, 2018, Vincent Waller also said in a statement on Twitter that the removal of the scene was due to a Standards and Practices issue and Nickelodeon being against the idea of a gag involving a match and gasoline.[46]
The edited version is included on the Tales from the Deep, Complete 3rd Season, The Seahorse, Holiday Cruise Collection, The Ultimate Box Set, Glumly Squidward, SpongeGuard on Duty (Greek), 10 Happiest Moments, First 100 Episodes, The Underwater Stories, Really Big Box Set, The SpongeBob Birthday Box, Double Feature Volume 3, The Ultimate SpongeBob Box Set, Treasure Chest: Double Pack, SpongeBob SquarePants Vol. 4, Complete Third Season, From the Beginning, Part 1, The SpongeBob SquarePants Collection, The SpongeBob SquarePants 8 Season DVD Collection, 2-Season TV Pack, The Third & Fourth Seasons, The Best 200 Episodes Ever, and The Best 300 Episodes Ever DVDs, the Deep Sea Sillies and Tales from the Deep VHS tapes, and the VideoNow versions.[47] Today, the uncut episode is still mainly aired only on Canadian channels, including YTV and Nickelodeon Canada, dubbed in Korean on EBS airings, and dubbed in Serbian on B92 airings. It is unknown why the scene was left intact in the episode's Canadian, South Korean, Serbian, and Bengali airings.
Despite all of these concerns, a gag involving a match and gasoline would later be used in the climax of the season 13 episode "SpongeBob on Parade."
"Nasty Patty"[]
The rough storyboard contains multiple scenes that were cut and changed from the final.[48]
- The episode's original runtime is about 15 minutes and 17 seconds long.
- It opens at the Krusty Krab as the Health Inspector enters the building.
- SpongeBob polishing the tables as he sees the Health Inspector reflected mistaking him for a giant smudge.
- SpongeBob takes the Health Inspector’s order while the Health Inspector checks the conditions of the restaurant.
- The Health Inspector asks SpongeBob to bring a Krabby Patty. As SpongeBob brings the Krabby Patty to the Health Inspector, the Health Inspector tells him to freeze, give him the Krabby Patty, and back away slowly.
- SpongeBob backs away slowly to Mr. Krabs' office.
- SpongeBob shows Mr. Krabs the Health Inspector from the kitchen.
- A shot of Mr. Krabs with a smelly gym sock in his office.
- SpongeBob shoved the Nasty Patty in his pants and down through his sock.
- While laughing at the Health Inspector, Mr. Krabs punches SpongeBob in the back as SpongeBob's eyes begins to pop out.
- The fake health inspector was originally going to be wearing a suit and tie.
- Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob say "It killed him!" after seeing the Health Inspector laying there unresponsive.
- As Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob to get a hold of himself, he squeezes SpongeBob, causing his brain to pop out and land hard on the Health Inspector as he begins to wake up.
- Mr. Krabs forces SpongeBob to take the body out of the Krusty Krab.
- SpongeBob says a few words for the Health Inspector as he reveals to himself that he's not very good at public speeches.
- SpongeBob carries the body in the trunk while Mr. Krabs stalls Officer John.
- As the Health Inspector wakes up, the trunk door starts to open. SpongeBob checks the trunk again and closes it, telling everyone that everything is all clear.
- SpongeBob walks in the police car exhaustingly instead of sliding in.
- SpongeBob says "Aww, tartar sauce!” after seeing the back door is locked.
- Officer John says "Is this some sort of bribe?” and Mr. Krabs says that it’s some sort of promotion.
- A news report of a frozen health inspector zombie.
- As the Health Inspector comes in the kitchen, SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, and Officers John and Nancy see the Health Inspector carrying a weapon, but, as it turns out, the Krusty Krab has passed the inspection.
- A news report that five people are hugging at a fast food restaurant.
"Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV"[]

"Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV"[]
An interview with Sam Henderson on SpongeBuddy Mania revealed there was originally going to be a scene involving the Bikini Bottomites characters smashing furniture and writing graffiti inside of SpongeBob's head. He further claimed that it was cut because the network can't show any actions that children might try.[49] After SpongeBob says that he doesn't think "wumbo" is a real word, Patrick would originally threaten "Are you saying I don't have any of the ENGLISH?" then he proceeds to squeeze Squidward, resulting in Squidward's head inflating.[50]
"Doing Time"[]
A scene of SpongeBob morphing into Mrs. Puff's hat and shoes was cut from the final episode.
"Snowball Effect"[]
There was going to be a scene of Squidward entering a snowman dungeon he made and saying, "I'll bring them to my snow dungeon and extract their valuable secrets." This scene did not make it past the storyboard for being too graphic (which several snowmen getting tortured and executed).
"Squilliam Returns"[]
An interview with Sam Henderson revealed there was going to be a scene that has baby Squilliam walking while Squidward is only learning to crawl. Then, in high school, Squidward only gives his date a single flower, but Squilliam appears with a bouquet and an enormous box of chocolates.[49]
"Rock-a-Bye Bivalve"[]
The storyboards for this episode show that there was originally a scene where Patrick and SpongeBob gargle and spit into Junior's mouth to feed him.
"Wet Painters"[]
In the storyboard version featured on the Sponge for Hire DVD:
- SpongeBob says, "I dedicate this crash to my old pal Squidward!" This line was cut possibly because it would make it seem as if Squidward was dead.
- When SpongeBob is down on the floor in front of Mr. Krabs' first dollar, Patrick is dressed like in a Behind Closed Doors drawing of the same scene.
"Party Pooper Pants"[]
In the TV version of this episode, the French Narrator has two scenes in-between a commercial break:
- Narrator: That includes you folks, SpongeBob's House Party will be right back after these messages. [fades out and back in] [Patchy is shown dancing and a guy in a submarine outfit walks towards the camera] Ahoy there! Welcome back to SpongeBob's House Party!
- These scenes were cut from the Bikini Bottom Bash! VHS tape and DVD releases because there are no commercials on the DVD/VHS. However, these scenes are still intact on the Bikini Bottom Bash DVD and the Paramount+ streaming release. Also, in the storyboard version featured on the Tales from the Deep DVD, the guests are shown leaving as soon as SpongeBob unlocks the front door when he gets back from the stony lonesome.[51] In the finished episode, most of the guests, except for Patrick, are already gone when SpongeBob unlocks the front door.
"New Student Starfish"[]
In the storyboard version featured on the Sponge for Hire DVD:
- When asked to say his name, there is a deleted scene where Patrick glances at a calendar with the date number 24, prompting him to say, "24."
- After Patrick leaves at the end of the episode, there is a deleted line of SpongeBob saying, "Can I have his star?" The ending would instead feature Roger hatching from his egg and asking "Hey, what'd I miss?"
- Both scenes were incorporated into the chapter book release of this episode.
- According to the storyboard version and the model sheet, the design of Roger after hatching out of his egg was originally going to have been drawn in a cartoon style. The storyboard version of Roger at the end is not colored in, but has an early prototype design that is also used in his model sheet. The early prototype design of Roger in the model sheet consisted of him having orange hair on his head, a yellow body, an orange beak, orange legs, wearing a dark blue sweater shirt that has his name written on it in light green letters, and black eyes. In the finished episode, the original cartoon design of Roger was scrapped in favor of a live-action baby chick being used to portray Roger. However, this design is used in "Friendiversary."
"Clams"[]
In the storyboard version featured on the SpongeGuard on Duty DVD, after Mr. Krabs gets his 1,000,000th dollar at the Krusty Krab, he uses the restaurant's phone to call his parents Krabs Senior and Betsy Krabs at the Bikini Bottom Graveyard to tell them about it, only to show that they're long dead. There were paintings made for the payphone and graves before the scene was cut. The reason this scene was cut from the final episode was either due to its punchline having an awkward and somewhat jarring contrast in tone with the scene before it, or to prevent a major continuity error, since Betsy Krabs and Krabs Senior are shown to be alive and well in other episodes.
"The Camping Episode"[]
Originally during the scene when Squidward says, "But what could compare to just lying out under the stars?," he would lay down and find a rock under his blanket, then insist that it's "all part of the roughing-it experience." This would cause him to snap in half, similar how he is cut in half by a pair of scissors in "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV." This gag was cut for time.[52] There was originally a second "bum bum bum" in the "Camp Fire Song Song" which would cause Squidward's brain to fly out.[53] This gag was also cut for time.[54] In a 2020 TikTok video,[55] Dan Povenmire revealed that in the original version of the "Camp Fire Song Song" he wrote, Patrick would say, "Letters, letters, letters..." instead of trying and failing to keep up with SpongeBob spelling "Campfire Song" really fast. This change in the final episode was suggested by Dan Povenmire's writing partner at the time, Jay Lender, and Dan admits that he thought it was funnier that way.
"Plankton's Army"[]
Originally the Krusty Krab invasion was originally going to be different.
"The Sponge Who Could Fly"[]
There is a deleted scene in the storyboard version featured on the Lost at Sea DVD that has Patchy ripping off a SpongeBob band-aid when destroying his SpongeBob stuff. The storyboards have another deleted scene where Patchy the Pirate goes inside of Don's Import Store & Delicatessen, but gets kicked out due to the store having a "No Pirates" sign. Don's Import Store & Delicatessen was also originally planned to be called "Shop n Shop" (a parody of Stop & Shop).
Season 4[]
"Have You Seen This Snail?"[]
The original plot idea for this episode involved Granny fattening Gary up to eat him, but that was changed due to it being too dark.[56] As such, she had an ax in the original cut that was replaced with a tray of cookies.[57] According to the storyboard version, SpongeBob was originally going to visit Squidward's house and ask him if he could give him a hand with the bag of snail food.
"Dunces and Dragons"[]
In the animatic version featured on the Season 4 Volume 1, The Complete Fourth Season, 2-Season TV Pack, and The Third & Fourth Seasons DVDs, there's a deleted scene where SpongeBob and Patrick make sure they are okay after falling out of the sky. Another deleted scene involves a scene in which human-like "doppelgängers" of SpongeBob and Patrick appear. Patrick's doppelgänger wears a pointed hat and SpongeBob's doppelgänger has a neat, square-trimmed haircut. These scenes were cut for unknown reasons.
"Ghost Host"[]
As shown in the storyboard,[58] there are several deleted scenes.
- The Flying Dutchman does a finger trick to SpongeBob after turning into various monsters.
- After the customer in the mattress store wakes up, he says "Oh?! It's you. You gave me quite a start" to the manager.
- Before the party scene, the storyboard shows the Flying Dutchman laying in a pile of junk and sleeping. SpongeBob clears his throat to get the Dutchman's attention, causing the Dutchman to wake up and say "Breakfast? I'd like four fried eggs and three double Krabby Patties." SpongeBob then brings out a plate of steamed coral, asking "How about a healthy serving of steamed coral instead?" The Dutchman asks "Why do ya think I'm getting a little paunchy?" SpongeBob replies "I'm on the outside lookin' in, man." The Flying Dutchman proceeds to take the steamed coral ("Alright, alright, gimme that thing!") and sniff it, then pushes it away in disgust. SpongeBob then says he has to go to work, but that he knows the Dutchman will scare the pants off of someone. The Flying Dutchman mumbles "Yeah, sure," and when SpongeBob asks what he said, he says in a louder voice, "I'll get right on that." SpongeBob then leaves work, and the two say goodbye to each other. Immediately after, the Dutchman grabs the phone and calls his friend Ralph to have a party, which then leads up to the party scene.
- When everyone at the party leaves, Incidental 7 asks the Dutchman "Will I see you again?" The Dutchman then says "When you least expect it, baby!" proceeded by SpongeBob slamming the door.
- Immediately after the aforementioned deleted scene with Incidental 153, SpongeBob goes over his agreements with the Dutchman's residence inside his house, followed by the Dutchman licking SpongeBob's finger.
- When the Flying Dutchman cries after watching the video, SpongeBob comes up to comfort him and says "I know, buddy, I know...," followed by the Dutchman rocking back and forth.
- After the old lady walks away, SpongeBob comes up and asks the Dutchman what happened. The Dutchman sadly says he probably doesn't have it in him anymore, which causes SpongeBob to grab his beard and yell "Nonsense" and pep talks the Dutchman that he still has it in him.
- Originally, before they head up to the gym, SpongeBob tells the Dutchman, "Dutchie! I think we found your next victim!"
- Before Squidward goes to pamper his face, he says, "Thank goodness for days off work... now I can get back to what's really important... me!" Then, when he comes to his make-up brush, he says "Ah, the beauty of man foundation. Does wonders for a squid-like me. Not that I need it!"
- Squidward was originally going to say, "Get a hold of yourself, Squidward" before saying, "There's n-n-no such things as ghosts."
- After Squidward says, "No! That's impossible!" it shows the Flying Dutchman still doing the finger trick while Squidward says, "Noooo!" before running off.
"Whale of a Birthday"[]
Pearl's alarm clock was originally going to be a conch shell instead of a clam.
At the end of this episode, Mr. Krabs' line "Don't push your luck, boy," is cut on all American television airings since the premiere,[59] the Amazon Prime Video version, and the Paramount+ streaming release. This is due to the line being said after the screen cuts to black, which was unintentionally cropped out. Despite this unusual edit, the occasional "best of" compilations on Nickelodeon USA airings, international non-US airings,[60] the iTunes version, and all DVD releases retain the line.[61]
- Even though the scene was left intact on the May 27, 2021 airing, the scene was cut for the July 8, 2021 airing.
"Karate Island"[]
The episode originally ended with a dedication to Noriyuki "Pat" Morita (1932–2005), who voiced Master Udon in this episode and died on November 24, 2005 due to kidney failure, about six months before the episode premiered in the United States. Morita was best known as Mitsumo "Arnold" Takahashi from the TV show Happy Days, Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid, and the Emperor of China in Walt Disney Animation Studios' 36th animated feature film, Mulan and its direct-to-video sequel Mulan II. The dedication card at the end of this episode was removed from American television airings after the Best Day Ever marathon and has also been removed from all digital and streaming releases on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, and iTunes. However, this episode has the dedication left intact on the Polish, Canadian, Australian, Belgian, French, Turkish, Spanish, German, Greek, Russian, Asian, Filipino, Latin American, Malaysian, European, all DVD releases including this episode, and the Netflix version (albeit cut short). The dedication used to be left in the UK and Ireland airings,[62] but has since been removed.[63]
"All That Glitters"[]
According to the storyboard, after Mr. Krabs says, "Go before I lose all me customers," he cries a teardrop saying, "Me money." Squidward asks "What happened?" and Mr. Krabs replies "I don't know."
Season 5[]
"Friend or Foe"[]
The following are from the animatic version featured on the Friend or Foe? DVD. These deleted scenes can be viewed here.
- In the scene where the scene pans through the customers eating at Krusty Krab at the beginning of the SpongeBob episode, Mr. Krabs is looking left instead of right.
- When SpongeBob says, "Don't forget your condiments, Plankton" and squirts Plankton with ketchup and mustard, Plankton's cake ship flies around as Plankton says, "Curses!"
- When SpongeBob says, "Why, Mr. Krabs? Why does he hate us so?" SpongeBob was next to Mr. Krabs, not in front of him.
- When Mr. Krabs says, "Well, you might as well blame me, SpongeBob, there was a time when Plankton and I were best friends," Mr. Krabs is holding SpongeBob and then walks over to a table and sits down.
- In the scene with the class bullies laughing at Plankton after Billy hits Plankton with a spitball, Young Man Jenkins does not have his hair.
- It should be noted that he did in the original pan of the class, so it was likely just an animation error.
- When young Sheldon says, "Idiots," the test tubes are being held horizontally and some of the liquid is on the desk.
- This was mostly removed because the result of mixing the two chemicals is an explosion.
- When young Sheldon says, "I'll show you," one of the test tubes is horizontal.
- When the chemicals explode, the exterior of the school is not shown, it is just an explosion cloud.
- After young Eugene says, "Buy things?" the image flips.
- When Stinky Burger is shown in a wide shot, there is writing on the order window door.
- Stinky's hair was originally a vertical block, instead of rounded hair.
- When Stinky breaks up the fight about whether the kids respect or like him, he waves his arm vertically in the air, instead of in front of him.
- The second outfit that Stinky wears did not originally have the medallion.
- When young Sheldon evilly laughs for the first time, it looks different than the final product.
- When young Sheldon is exercising, his arms don't move.
- In the entire grand opening scene, Sheldon and Eugene have hats.
- When the kid says, "Hey," Sheldon and Eugene have their arms up.
- In the scene where Plankton leaves the pepper shaker when he leaves the shaker and stands on the table.
- When Plankton says, "Most of its true, except what really happened. We had created the tastiest burger," he is not wearing the pepper shaker "hat."
- When Old Man Jenkins is knocked out, he is shown next to his car.
- The original headline for the Old Man Jenkins story in the Bikini Bottom Weekly is "Plab Patties KO Old Man Jenkins."
- When Sheldon leaves his and Eugene's restaurant the part of the recipe is his left hand.
- Whenever the Chum Bucket bucket is shown, there are flies around it.
- This was most likely removed because flies don't exist underwater.
- The result of Big Johnny's barf is worse in the animatic.
- The "TM" after Krabby Patty is not shown.
"Spy Buddies"[]
According to the audio commentary, instead of Plankton finding SpongeBob and Patrick when they fall into the Chum Bucket, SpongeBob and Patrick were going to see a dispute between Plankton and Karen, which featured Plankton not wanting to go to Karen's mother-in-law (a car alarm that only says, "Stay away from the vehicle")'s house.
"Good Ol' Whatshisname"[]
On all DVD releases and international non-US airings, Richard Pursel is credited as one of the 3 writers instead of Dani Michaeli. According to Dani Michaeli's Twitter account, he wrote the outline for this episode.[64] Richard Pursel stated that Dani Michaeli was actually the writer of this episode, and not him. He also stated that this could possibly be due to a production error. This episode was first made available on the Bikini Bottom Adventures DVD released on June 5, 2007 with the error, one month before it aired on American television.[65] This mistake was corrected before Nickelodeon premiered this episode in the United States, and all subsequent American reruns on Nicktoons, digital releases, and streaming services use the corrected credits.[66]
"New Digs"[]
According to the audio commentary, there was originally going to be a scene where Gary either was shown being milked or the aftermath of being milked for the snail milk featured in this episode. This was most likely removed as it would have been disturbing and Gary is a male snail, so it would not make sense.
"Roller Cowards"[]
On current American TV airings, the iTunes version, and the Amazon Prime Video version, "Mavericks" is replaced with "Monster Wave," possibly due to copyright issues. There may have originally been a scene planned where SpongeBob and Patrick were going to print the tickets online. However, in the audio commentary this information came from, the commentators laughed about this, meaning it might have been a joke.
"To Love a Patty"[]
The following are from the animatic version featured on the To Love a Patty DVD and the From the Beginning, Part 2 digital release. Many scenes were altered between the animatic version and the final version.
- The scene of SpongeBob screaming at the idea of Patty being eaten isn't present in the animatic.
- In the same scene, there would've been a close-up of SpongeBob ripped in half.
- A few seconds later, SpongeBob would've been shown running into the kitchen, with Squidward following.
- Some of Squidward's hand movements are missing.
- The firehose Gary uses to extinguish the fire looks slightly different in the animatic.
- SpongeBob's fright was originally on the overside of the room.
- Some of SpongeBob's movements when he rejects Patrick and Sandy's offers are different. There also would've been a crowd cheering.
- During the "I Can't Keep My Eyes Off of You" song sequence, some of the perspectives were differently, Patty was originally shown partially eaten, and already smelling before it hits the water. When SpongeBob sings "I'll never let you out of my sight again! And I'll always keep you out of harms way!," it would've shown multiple stills of SpongeBob.
- After the song there was a deleted scene of SpongeBob in his bed with Patty. This was toned down to them having a picnic in the finished episode to remove any suggestive undertones.
- When SpongeBob arrives at the Krusty Krab, he's shown wearing his wig and suit from "The Chaperone" on his date with Patty. The colors of his suit were changed for the final version of this episode, and his wig was removed entirely.
"Breath of Fresh Squidward"[]
There was originally a scene involving a mother fish talking to her daughter. It was most likely removed in the final cut because of the mother talking to her daughter about her life and her baby were irrelevant to the plot. This scene can be found in the animatic version featured on the Bikini Bottom Adventures DVD release. Three more deleted scenes (or lines) were also revealed in the animatic version.
- After SpongeBob says he and Patrick sneak into Squidward's house every morning, he says, "...with our best friend, Squidward."
- After Mr. Krabs hears that Squidward is selling free hats, he said "Did somebody say free... in my restaurant?!" and runs out of his office. In the final cut, he only says, "Did somebody say free?" suspiciously.
- SpongeBob screams after finding out that Squidward made Krabby Patties.
"Money Talks"[]
According to the audio commentary, after Mr. Krabs is granted his power to talk to money, he wakes up in his bed and finds a nickel in his belly button. It was originally going to be located in his butt.
"Goo Goo Gas"[]
Originally, in the scene where Plankton sits on the bench and watches the baby, Plankton would take a baby bottle a few times and then kidnap the baby. The baby's mother would then walk up to the stroller and ask where her baby went. It was heavily implied in the audio commentary that Sadie was not going to be the baby's mother, so it was later cut.
"Le Big Switch"[]
In the original storyboards (pictured to the right), there was a full scene showing Pearl in her room as she talked on the phone with Mr. Krabs. Their conversation was longer. This scene was cut from the final episode.
"Atlantis SquarePantis"[]
In some countries, such as Spain, Poland, Greece, and Serbia, this episode is aired in two parts.
"BlackJack"[]
Since mid-2009,[67] Nickelodeon USA broadcasts of this episode use the soundtrack "Secret Agent 00 SquarePants" as the title card cue instead of "K-55," possibly due to copyright issues.[68] This is also true for all Nicktoons USA and Nick@Nite broadcasts, as well as all digital and streaming releases on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, and iTunes.[69] The international non-US airings[70] and all DVD releases still use "K-55," however.[71]
"The Inmates of Summer"[]
Since 2013, the title card is always skipped whenever this episode is broadcast on Nickelodeon USA[72] and Nick@Nite.[73] The title card is left intact for all of the Nicktoons USA airings, mainly because they use a remastered print of this episode.[74]
"What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?"[]
In the animatic version featured on the SpongeBob's WhoBob WhatPants? DVD:
- After Patrick says, "Just a birthday cake for my mom that I spent all day baking," as he walks back into his rock, he turns around and looks back at SpongeBob and says, "And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to bake a 2nd birthday cake that I'll give my mother a day late!"
- After Sandy's robot breaks, Sandy angrily shows SpongeBob its broken head, throws it into his hands and orders him to leave with him backing away towards the door as Sandy approaches him.
- During the scene when the creepy people are scaring SpongeBob, a scallop can be heard crowing.
- After SpongeBob says, "Ooh, boy! That's quite a lump!" Then he says, "I better not hit my head again, that might cause a concussion."
- After all the people of New Kelp City run away from the bubble SpongeBob blew, he says, "What could possibly be wrong with practicing the bubble arts? Seems like a harmless activity."
- During SpongeBob's speech, he says, "I can't say that I blame you."
"The Two Faces of Squidward"[]
According to the audio commentary, Squidward's face would have originally been broken by a truck. It was changed to a door because it would have been too frightening to be shown.
"Banned in Bikini Bottom"[]
According to the audio commentary, there was originally going to be a scene in which Pearl is shown singing at the secret Krusty Krab.
Season 6[]
"Nautical Novice"[]
In the storyboard version, the episode opens with Mrs. Puff giving her class an acronym to remember: CALAMITY, standing for "Calm And Lively Awareness Makes Impervious Trip (for) You."
"SpongeBob SquarePants vs. The Big One"[]
In some countries, including Poland, they use an alternate title card that reads "SpongeBob SquarePants and the Big Wave." In some other countries, including Latvia, Ukraine, Australia, and Germany, they use an alternate title card that reads "The Secret of Kahuna Laguna."
"Cephalopod Lodge"[]
At the end of this episode, Squidward's tongue getting zapped by a jellyfish is cut on all Nicktoons USA broadcasts, the Amazon Prime Video version, and the Paramount+ streaming release.[75] This is due to the screen fading to black when this happens. Despite this unusual edit, all Nickelodeon USA/Nick@Nite broadcasts, international non-US airings, and the DVD releases retain this scene.[76]
"To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants"[]
According to the storyboards featured on the SpongeBob's To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants DVD, when SpongeBob fills out an application and is confused about what the word "felony" means, there is a deleted line of SpongeBob saying, "Oh, I'm convicted of that all the time!" This episode's title is also sometimes shortened to "To SquarePants or Not to," because the original title is considered too long.
"Truth or Square"[]
In the storyboard, the episode was originally going to have a line in the marriage scene after the priest says he didn't know the wedding was a play. SpongeBob says, "It doesn't have to be," which causes Sandy to slap him.[77] The extended version of this episode, which includes many additional scenes, is exclusively available on the North American/Region 1 versions of the DVD based on this episode, Season 6 Volume 1, Triple Pack 1, The Complete Sixth Season, Big Hits: Volume 1, The Next 100 Episodes, The Best 200 Episodes Ever, The Fifth & Sixth Seasons, and The Best 300 Episodes Ever DVDs. The additional scenes were not shown in most international airings and international DVD releases. There is also a "Stuck in the Freezer" title card that can be seen in many countries, including Latin America and Iberia.
"Pineapple Fever"[]
According to the outline found in the August 2009 issue of Nickelodeon Magazine, the episode was originally going to end with the tornado stopping and the house falling on Squidward.
"The Clash of Triton"[]
This episode was originally called "Neptune's Party," and a title card for "Neptune's Party" was even made before it was changed to "The Clash of Triton."[78] The title card can still be seen in Lithuania, Finland, Asia, Germany, France, Poland, and all of Central and Eastern Europe.
Season 7[]
"Someone's in the Kitchen with Sandy"[]
Originally, Sandy was going to appear fully naked in the episode, but the design was revised to be less grotesque, giving her underwear in the process. The change in design results in a plot hole in the final episode where Sandy is constantly referred to as being naked, despite wearing underwear. Besides Sandy's changed design, there were scenes in the original storyboard that were cut from the final episode.
- Sandy covers herself with a construction cone, but after causing an accident a worker blamed her like a thief in front of the police, she runs away and leaves the cone.
- Sandy finds a clothing store, and she goes on it for clothes, but she was taken out by the owner saying that without clothes there's no service.
- A Live News Broadcast was filming a Sasquatch and when they film a naked Sandy hiding, the reporter confuses her with the Sasquatch.
"Gramma's Secret Recipe"[]
There are two versions of this episode. One has an animation error where Granny Plankton still has hair after Plankton steals it from her, and another where she has her hair off and the animation error fixed. The fixed version appeared in later Nickelodeon USA reruns, on the Complete Seventh Season and The Next 100 Episodes DVD releases and can still be seen on Nicktoons USA, while the version with the error can be seen in other countries, as well as on Netflix.
"Big Sister Sam"[]
Originally, there was going to be a scene of Sam throwing SpongeBob out of the water.
Season 8[]
"Frozen Face-Off"[]
A piece of production art implies that at one point, Squidward was going to show off his Russian winter clothes.
"Bubble Buddy Returns"[]
SpongeBob was originally going to see Ernest Borgnine's live-action face in Squidward's cupboard and say, "Borgnine." However, it was ultimately scrapped.[79]
"InSPONGEiac"[]
During Comic-Con 2011, the initial synopsis for "InSPONGEiac" had Mr. Krabs have a nightmare and turn into a mustard dispenser.[80]
"Demolition Doofus"[]
In the storyboard, after SpongeBob goes down the rail, the other skaters say "Dude!"
"It's a SpongeBob Christmas!"[]
The Patchy segments were cut in the CBS airing. There are also differences between the storyboard version and final cut of the episode:
- In the storyboard, the road at the beginning of the episode is just a road with some mountains in the background. In the final version, the road is on the side of a mountain, then the turn.
- In the storyboard, when Patchy stops and introduces his situation, the shot is through the windshield and he is wearing a mailman's hat. In the final version, he looks out of the truck, leaves the truck, and goes to the back of the truck. He is also wearing his normal pirate hat.
- In the storyboard, since Patchy does not leave the truck, the mailman is shown in the back of the truck. He looks different than in the final version. In the final version, since Patchy does not have the mailman hat right away, he switches his and the mailman's hat when he shows the mailman.

Season 9[]
"License to Milkshake"[]
In the storyboard, while Captain Frostymug falls, he makes a beard out of whipped cream. He also has a red beard instead of a gray beard.
"Kenny the Cat"[]
A now-deleted tweet by Erik Wiese shows SpongeBob splitting in two to have a conversation with himself on whether or not to expose that Kenny is a fake.[81]
This section is too short. You can help Encyclopedia SpongeBobia by expanding it.
|
"Lost in Bikini Bottom"[]
The payphone was different in the final version than how it was in the storyboard version. This episode was originally titled "The Shortcut."[82] In the French dub, this episode's title is "Le Raccourci," which when translated to English, still uses the original title.
"What's Eating Patrick?"[]
In the storyboard version, in the scene where Patrick is starting training when the scene enters Patrick's mouth to show his taste buds, it shows his mouth and then the taste buds. In the final version, it shows Patrick's tongue instead of his mouth.
"Larry's Gym"[]
In the storyboard version, Larry says that the only thing worse than donuts is ground glass and then smashes a glass cup in a fish's mouth.[83] Nickelodeon executives deemed the scene to be too dangerous to show to kids and banned it from airing. Interestingly, the scene of the fish becoming dizzy afterwards still happens in the final episode.
"Married to Money"[]
When this episode was announced in September 2015, it was going to be about Mr. Krabs marrying a bag of money.[84] However, this idea was later changed to a stack of cash controlled by Plankton known as Cashina for unknown reasons, possibly because the plot could be made with more complexity and fluidity this way.
Season 10[]
"Whirly Brains"[]
According to the rough storyboard, there's a transition that got changed in the final cut. Originally, the box the Whirly Brains came in appeared on SpongeBob's TV, the camera zooms into the screen, and then we fade to the box on SpongeBob's lawn. It was replaced with the usual bubble wipe for unknown reasons. Also, Squidward originally had a nose warmer on him while bathing. On airings of the German dub, the title card is mistakenly cut out.[85] As a result, this episode does not have an official title card in Germany.
"Unreal Estate"[]
According to an animatic posted by Vincent Waller, one of Squidward's paintings from "Artist Unknown" (Bold and Brash) was originally going to reappear as a decoration in Squidward's house.
"Code Yellow"[]
In the rough storyboard version, when Squidward and SpongeBob talk about noses, SpongeBob daydreams a nose working at the Krusty Krab when Squidward says "nose job."[86] This never made it into the final episode because it was time-consuming.[87] Squidward's noses originally included a red nose, a female hairstyle, his head being replaced by a robot, and a human nose. The storyboard had scenes of the nurse giving Squidward anesthesia.
"Mimic Madness"[]
In the original storyboard, when Sandy and Plankton are playing chess and SpongeBob mimics them, Karen comes out of the Chum Bucket and laughs at SpongeBob's impression of Plankton. She does not appear in the final cut.
- Also in the original storyboard is a scene where, after imitating Tom, SpongeBob imitates a customer trying to order; the customer laughs and pulls on his cheeks.
"Plankton Gets the Boot"[]
Multiple scenes were changed between the rough storyboard and the finished episode.[88]
- Karen's screensaver depicts flying blenders in the storyboard, while it shows flying toasters in the finished episode.
- After seeing SpongeBob drinking, Plankton who is fidgeting visits the houses of Larry the Lobster, Mrs. Puff, Squidward, his parents, and a toilet before going back to SpongeBob.
"Life Insurance"[]
In the rough storyboard version, instead of falling down the stairs at the beginning of the episode, SpongeBob would do his morning routine while the advertisement for life insurance played on his TV, and eventually, the advertiser's foot would come out of the TV and trip SpongeBob to get his attention. Fiasco would angrily rip up his painting after SpongeBob and Patrick run through it.[89]
"The Incredible Shrinking Sponge"[]
In the storyboard of this episode, SpongeBob lands in mustard after burning his feet on the grill. However, in the actual episode, he lands in ketchup instead of mustard. Whether this was intentional or an error is unknown.
"Feral Friends"[]
According to the rough storyboard, there is a deleted scene. Plankton waits for Karen to bring him dinner, but Neptune's Moon turns him into a feral copepod. When Karen brings his food over, she mistakes feral Plankton for a bug and swats him away.[90]
- When asked why this was removed, Vincent Waller stated it was due to time constraints.[citation needed]
Season 11[]
"Cave Dwelling Sponge"[]

- When SpongeBob is taken to prison, he blows bubbles with his fellow prisoners before he goes to speak with Mr. Krabs.
- After punching SpongeBob, Spongy Spongy shakes SpongeBob's hand.
"Spin the Bottle"[]
In the rough storyboard version, SpongeBob fills the bottle with water, drinks from it, and almost swallows Plankton. It was likely cut to save time.[92]
"The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom"[]
The stop-motion models of Mrs. Puff and Pearl from "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" were originally going to appear, but their scenes had to be cut from the final episode for time.[93]
- There also used to be a scene where SpongeBob and Patrick would look at Plankton's perception of Krabby Patties, "people patties," close up.
"No Pictures Please"[]
The rough storyboard contains multiple scenes that were cut from the episode.[94]

- In the storyboard, SpongeBob's mouth is closed while he sleeps. In the finished version, SpongeBob snores.
- In the storyboard, Plankton is crushed by the pole Patrick set in front of the Krusty Krab. In the finished version, he is run over by an old fish in a wheelchair.
- In the storyboard, Patrick flushes soda cans down the toilet. In the finished version, he flushes toilet paper.
- Patrick is about to clog the toilet again, but Mr. Krabs throws him out before he can flush the soda cans down.
- In the storyboard, Ol' Ribeye has pupils. In the finished version, his eyes are hollow.
- In the storyboard, a gravestone reads "FEMALE ZOMBIE." In the finished version, it reads "ZZZ."
- The post office is not seen in the storyboard.
- In the storyboard, Patrick hits Ol' Ribeye on the head a few times to make him collapse. In the finished version, he collapses from hitting Patrick's rock.
- The Tram's Travels tour guide takes his hat back from Patrick. Patrick takes it back after Rube disappears.
- An alarm clock is left behind after Rube disappears.
"Stuck on the Roof"[]

- Sandy's extendo-boots are identical to her normal ones.
- Sandy wears an astronaut suit while above land.
- In the storyboard, Sandy kicks a fish. In the finished version, she kicks Squidward.
- In the storyboard, Patrick climbs up the ladder to get on the roof. In the finished version, he bounces off a rubber duck.
- Patrick stretches before stepping off the roof.
- During the transition from day to night, two boatmobiles are seen driving away.
- In the storyboard, Squidward's dinner is a shrimp tail-shaped cornucopia. In the finished version, his dinner is Krabby Newburg.
- SpongeBob's hand cramp is more destructive in the storyboard.
- The cornucopia is flung around Squidward's neck as he tries to exit through the door, knocking him out.
- Squidward sees SpongeBob on the roof, then angrily shuts his curtains.
- The building montage is different in the storyboard.
- SpongeBob's wood bed is less sturdy, and he uses cardboard for a blanket instead of wood.
- SpongeBob's grill is bought to him on a wooden platform.
- The second construction montage is different and uses some recycled animation from the first one.
- SpongeBob rings the bell, then realizes that Squidward isn't there.

- Fred has no teeth.
- Squidward is seen putting up and adjusting a painting.
- SpongeBob's eyes are red after he builds another Krusty Krab.
- A whistle sounds, which signals the end of SpongeBob's shift.
"Krabby Patty Creature Feature"[]
There are two storyboards showcasing scenes that underwent changes from the original episode. One of them was in its initial rough form, while the other had been finalized but still underwent some modifications. Both storyboards were shared on YouTube by Vincent Waller, the writer of the show.
THE ROUGH STORYBOARD CHANGES:
- The Secret Patties' color was originally going to be blue, however, it was changed to purple in the second half.[96]
- SpongeBob was originally going to scream, without his heart open.
- Some of the transformations are way different than the finalized one.
THE FINAL STORYBOARD CHANGES:
- The Secret Patties were originally going to be purple instead of orange.
- When SpongeBob screams and opens his heart, there is no blood in the episode but in the storyboard, there is blood.
"Scavenger Pants"[]
In the animatic version of this episode, during the shot where the desert sandwich is revealed from the Sand witch's hand, it appears to be that her hand is in full color, and the desert sandwich is in real-life.
- Originally, the desert sandwich's lettuce tongue was more like an actual tongue than the final product in the finished episode.
"Cuddle E. Hugs"[]
The rough storyboard contains multiple scenes that were cut from the episode.[97]
- The Krusty Krab's sign reads "CLOSED."
- Live-action sea bunnies are shown near the Aged Patty.
"Drive Happy"[]
The rough storyboard contains multiple scenes that were cut from the episode.[98]
- The boat salesman shark is a generic fish.
- In the rough storyboard, the scene with Squidward's brain is different. Here, he throws it onto the stand of a man cutting up foods. Squidward's brain is sliced up and deep fried; he then dumps the crumbs back into his head. In the final, Squidward literally erases his memory of SpongeBob by taking out his brain and rubbing a pencil eraser on it.
- The scene of SpongeBob and Gary walking downstairs is mirrored in the final.
- After Squidward says "it's not an act," he laughs maniacally.
"My Leg!"[]
The rough storyboards had many scenes that were changed or deleted.[99]
- During the montage at the start of the episode, Bubble Bass has a scene where he eats while driving, and runs over Fred's leg.
- The scene where Fred's leg was run over by a mobility scooter was going to be set at the Recreation Center, and would have featured Jim and the purple wrestler in a wrestling match.
- Nurse Bazooka's nametag reads "Daisy" in the storyboard.
- The "My Leg!" song was different from the present version, as Fred and the other patients stay in their beds as Fred sings the song.
"Ink Lemonade"[]
The second customer Patrick sells black lemonade to has a completely different design between the rough storyboards and final. Her name in the closing credits, "crab lady," reflects her earlier design.[100]
"Mustard O' Mine"[]
SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick were originally going to ride a snail camel. They would melt in the sun and be spit out by the snail.[101][102]
"Shopping List"[]
The rough storyboards reveal several scenes being changed or deleted.[103]
- When SpongeBob pats Matilda, it acts like a dog, happily shaking its propeller-like a tail. Matilda is shaped like a normal submarine instead of an acorn.
- When SpongeBob starts to suffocate inside Matilda, Plankton is shown drying up and trying to breathe.
- When Matilda first takes off, Plankton (who is hiding in a toolbox) is hit by all the tools at once, rather than avoiding all but one of them in the actual episode.
- SpongeBob and Sandy travel to the Kelp Forest to gather long-grained seaweed, a plant that releases extremely poisonous spores if pulled out of the ground. They safely harvest the seaweed, but Plankton doesn't, and he is poisoned by the spores and swells up.
"Whale Watching"[]
In the original storyboard, Sadie looked more like a mermaid-whale hybrid doll.[104]
"Krusty Kleaners"[]
- In the rough animatic version, the copier was the only machine that trash bot recruited onscreen.
- Also in the rough animatic version, when the coffeemaker is about to drop onto SpongeBob and Patrick, it shows that the coffeemaker broke from the impact of hitting the floor. This part was cut in the final episode.
- In the final animatic version of the episode, the fridge was originally going to be recruited by trash bot to eliminate SpongeBob and Patrick (and even gaining an antenna). However, the fridge is never made sentient by trash bot in the final episode.
- Also in the final animatic, the microwave oven and coffeemaker had blue rings underneath them when they were floating.
"Patnocchio"[]
In the rough storyboard, Karen the Computer Fairy starts telling the story outside the Chum Bucket.[105]
"Karen's Virus"[]
Karen was originally going to visit the Krusty Krab and sneeze radiation on the customers.[106][107]
Season 12[]
"The Nitwitting"[]
There was originally going to be a scene of SpongeBob doing a silly dance.[108]
"Swamp Mates"[]
There was going to be a part where Bubble Bass and Patrick get leeches on them.[109]
- In the Amazon Prime version of this episode, the scene where Patrick and Bubble Bass' log falls over is cut.[110]
"The Krusty Bucket"[]
There was originally going to be a scene of a kid fish trying to avoid a bunch of objects being thrown while Mr. Krabs and Plankton were fighting.
"Broken Alarm"[]
There are differences between the storyboard version and the final version of the episode. The final version's changes are described below.
- The background of the scene where Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and the Bikini Bottomites prepare to enter SpongeBob's room is different, and different Bikini Bottomites are present.
- Squidward does not face the Bikini Bottomites and do the "head nod" present in the storyboard, instead only beginning to smile once Mr. Krabs says "horror." Various expressions and angles of characters are also changed, and the "c'mon!" from Squidward and Mr. Krabs is absent.
- Mr. Krabs does not push Squidward back after he places his hand on SpongeBob's bedroom door, and Squidward smiles, but does not grin until Mr. Krabs says "horror."
- Squidward's head is not peeking through the door when it opens.
- The camera pans to SpongeBob's bed instead of zooming out, and his bed is facing a different direction. SpongeBob is sprawled over the bed differently, without a blanket over his body.
- Gary does not lick SpongeBob until the camera cuts to SpongeBob's face.
- The group does not rush over to SpongeBob's bed until later. SpongeBob also does not have the stubble present in the storyboard.
- Mr. Krabs' teeth are not present, and Squidward is not seen in the background.
- SpongeBob does not wake up until after Gary is lifted off his face, not during that moment, and he also has added bubbles above his face. Gary's tongue is also not on SpongeBob's face as he is being removed.
- Gary's spit does not land on SpongeBob's face, and SpongeBob's mouth does not "zing" back onto his face.
- Because the cast of Bikini Bottomites is different, one of them does not put a hat back on.
- The camera is not zoomed out when the Bikini Bottomites leave SpongeBob's room. Squidward and Mr. Krabs do not turn towards them, only looking with their eyes.
- Mr. Krabs picks SpongeBob up and squeezes him, unlike the storyboard, where he places his claws on SpongeBob.
- When being told he is alive, SpongeBob has a different reaction, gasping and grabbing Mr. Krabs' eyes and screaming in the storyboard, and the storyboard notes "blink!" and "mini-take on 'late 4 work'." It is likely that when SpongeBob is screaming, he is expressing that he is late for work, and then he realizes what he has just said. Mr. Krabs and Squidward's dialogue probably also was different because of this. Squidward also has an added eye-roll in the final version.
- Before he pats his alarm clock, SpongeBob has a different expression as he gets down from the bed and does not clutch his bed in agony.
- In the storyboard, SpongeBob's foot is present next to the alarm clock's plug when he realizes it is unplugged, and his expression is slightly different.
- SpongeBob's look of surprise is different as the alarm clock falls.
- No one ducks when the alarm clock crashes around the room, and SpongeBob chooses to hide under the blanket instead of behind the bed.
- The bed does not "spit out" the clock.
- Mr. Krabs and Squidward have different expressions and poses as they dodge the alarm clock. Squidward does not have the look of relief in the storyboard, and Mr. Krabs looks up at Squidward. The clock also hits Squidward at a different angle.
- SpongeBob catches Gary by the shell in the final, not by his bottom.
- Instead of "smoking" the clock, Squidward has his head stuck in it.
- Mr. Krabs' arms are forward instead of to the side, and he looks up at Squidward.
- SpongeBob picks up pieces of the clock while speaking, and Gary is not on screen. He also puts his arms out, cuddles the pieces of the clock, puts his fist down, and then puts his arms around it.
- Mr. Krabs crosses his arms and warns SpongeBob to not be late before leaving the room. Squidward rubs his head, and Mr. Krabs has an added "or else." In the storyboard, Squidward rubs his head later and SpongeBob looks towards Mr. Krabs and Squidward as they look away and leave.
- Ellipses are added to the "1 Hour Later..." time card.
- Mr. Krabs' late notices simply say "late" instead of "late notice" and are white with red text instead of red with white text.
- SpongeBob is knocked out of bed by the punching bag clock instead of getting a black eye and remaining asleep in bed.
- The "Late Again..." time card has four flowers, and some are moved.
- The hive alarm clock was originally a volcano alarm clock, so SpongeBob is burnt and charred with smoke instead of being swollen and pink.
- SpongeBob is originally not on fire, but electric, as if he had been stung by a Jellyfish. It is almost as if these two clocks were swapped.
- The arrows have added plungers in the final version.
- Gary's food bag is not labeled "Snail Po" and the snail on the bag is facing a different direction. The bag also has an added stripe.
- In the scene with the large beeping clock reading "6:00," the cart in front of SpongeBob's bed is missing until the next shot, when it is not missing in the storyboard.
- Roman numerals are added to the clock at the intersection.
- The painting of The Persistence of Memory looks more like the original version.
- In the storyboard, SpongeBob faces forward in this scene, while in the previous shot, he was sent to face backward. This is fixed in the final version.
- Mr. Krabs waves his claws when saying "that last 'for else'."
"Mind the Gap"[]
In one scene, the fish present is different from the storyboard.
- Squidward's eyes are slightly different when he says "best friend."
"SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout"[]
In the thirty-minute version, all party planning scenes are cut, along with the "pie dragon" chase and paperclip jungle scenes. Old Man Walker isn't present, SpongeBob's house isn't destroyed, some lines were changed and Patrick is in a different position throughout the birthday song.
- In some countries, John Goodman is present.
- In the YouTube version of the Trusty Slab scene, one piece of dialogue is slightly different.
"SpongeBob in RandomLand"[]
When this episode premiered in the United States on September 21, 2019, as Squidward opens the third door from the wall of doors on top of him, shows a room that is clearly identical to his bedroom, as it quickly turns to static with an image of Squidward with red eyes and black dripping tears onscreen, which is a reference to the popular internet urban legend "Red Mist"/"Squidward's Suicide."
On November 11, 2019, Red Mist Squidward was cut and replaced with a Baby Squidward. According to Vincent Waller on Twitter, it was due to a Standards and Practices issue.[111]
In other countries, such as Russia, Poland, Southeast Asia, France, Wallonia, Latin America, Brazil, Scandinavia, and Germany (only on Nicktoons), the episode was uncensored. In the UK and Ireland, the scene was originally unknown at first because they premiered the episode before the US. It was deleted at first, but then added the Baby Squidward scene in later reruns. In response, Adam Paloian, the supervising director for the episode, thought the censorship was funny, after the US premiered the episode.[citation needed]
In some countries, such as Greece and the Arab League, the Baby Squidward scene was applied but with the audio taken from the Red Mist one. In South Korea and Indonesia, the Baby Squidward scene was applied normally. The censored version is included on The Complete Twelfth Season and on all digital and streaming releases on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, and iTunes. The uncensored version was included on the Nick App until it was removed on July 2021. As to date, the uncensored version mainly airs on the Canadian channel YTV and the Latin American version of Nickelodeon.
- In the storyboard, Red Mist Squidward was originally supposed to get closer to the screen. This didn't make it through the plot for being too scary.
- There was also a deleted scene where SpongeBob and Squidward visit a guy with a house made of spaghetti and SpongeBob has to fork it up but it was cut for time.
"Lighthouse Louie"[]
- The newspaper that SpongeBob is eating was going to reveal Mrs. Puff's actual real name.
"Bubble Bass's Tab"[]
- In the storyboard, there's a scene where a customer begins to add ketchup on his fries, but Bubble Bass takes the fries away from him, adds ketchup on the fries and sprays it to the customer's face.[112]
"Dream Hoppers"[]
- In the rough storyboard, the opening scene shows SpongeBob sleeping instead of him coming from the Low Tides concert first.
- Instead of SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick dancing, the ending scene shows Rodger Bumpass waking up just like Squidward does, noticing Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke in his bed and screaming.
Season 13[]
"Squidward's Sick Daze"[]
- The painting SpongeBob made was originally going to be different.
"Captain Pipsqueak"[]
- In the initial draft of the script, the thief (known in the script as "The Boat Jacker") was supposed to call out Man Ray instead of Tattletale Strangler.
"Welcome to Binary Bottom"[]
- The opening shot of Binary Bottom was supposed to have a worm hologram chase the mailman hologram.
- The scene where the mirror robot puts SpongeBot's face on his body was originally SpongeBot picking one of three different faces.
- This scene is similar to one from "Truth or Square."
"Delivery to Monster Island"[]
- These monsters went unused in the final episode, likely to be used during the "Too many monsters!" scene.
"Sir Urchin and Snail Fail"[]
In the storyboards for this episode, Snail Fail throws an anchor and Sir Urchin during their big fight at the talent show, but in the final episode, it is not seen.[113]
"FUN-Believable"[]
There is a deleted scene featuring Rube interviewing Mr. Krabs. He shows Rube the Krusty Krab's secret menu. This scene is similar to the one in "Krabby Patty Creature Feature."[114][115][116] Another deleted scene is found where Rube interviewed jellyfish.[117]
Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years[]
"Night of the Living Stench"[]
When Patrick tries to make himself dirty after being cleaned by Squidward, he rubs SpongeBob on his body like a shower brush. The storyboards show that after this, Patrick rubs SpongeBob on his butt, then between his legs, then squeezes SpongeBob's filth onto him.
"The Perfect Camper"[]
Dave Thomas's rough boards for the episode show a few scenes that were later cut.
- After Regigilled stretches out Roh and Rea, they smile confidently. In the final episode, they are dizzy instead.
- Craig is seen doing reps with the dumbbell before throwing it on the ground.
- After the Frigate cabin's preparation is a scene of Patrick scooping ice cream to make a sundae. He then puts condiments on it, and pulls his brain of of his head. His brain grows a mouth and devours the ice cream sundae whole, freezing up after. Patrick puts his brain back in, and it causes his head to freeze. He then collapses on the table face-first, when the sundae bowl flipping over on his head. SpongeBob comes over and rubs his shoulders.
- An unused shot shows the Trawlers pulling needles out of yarn balls.
- In the storyboards, Jimmy, Roxy, and Kidferatu throw their yarn balls at Preda one at a time. In the final, they throw them all at the same time, and she knits them consecutively.
- Plankton is positioned to the middle of the judges table in the rough boards instead of the right like in the final. He jumps on the table and gives a speech, only for Krabs to squash him with an unamused expression.
- When Roxy is tangled up in the net, Lady Upturn appears in the boards, but she is not there in the final episode.
- The badges Rea and Roh win are shaped like two crossed tennis rackets, while in the final they are simply gold medals.
- The boards have an overhead shot of the hammer throw court as Craig enters.
- In the boards, the hammer lands with a "285" marker next to it. In the final, Plankton appears and measures it, then gets crushed by the hammer.
- The boards have an unused shot of the hammer flying into the air before landing on Kidferatu's ashes.
- In the boards, Preda Tory knits Krabs into a recreation of the Vitruvian Man. In the final, she wraps him in a long scarf.
- In the boards, Kevin rides on the horse, when in the final, he is replaced by Harvey. Additionally, the horse is knitted in the boards.
- In the boards, Perch, Harvey, and Bubble Bass raise their swords together to celebrate, then appear on the podium. In the final, these take place at the same time. Perch was removed from this scene in the final, likely because he is also narrating it. In his place, Elwood is added into the second shot.
- Patrick eating the pancakes with Jimmy's slime is more elaborate in the rough boards.
The Patrick Star Show[]
"Shrinking Stars"[]
- The "out her face" woman was originally going to be the subliminal message girl. [118]
- The "out her face" woman has black hair rather than blonde and a different color pattern behind her in the final version of the episode.
"Uncredible Journey"[]
- In the rough storyboards, GrandPat slips on a SpongeBob toy instead of a doll.
- The rough storyboards have a montage of the pets going around town to save babies.
- In the rough storyboards, Granny Tentacles appears instead of Gladys.
- The rough storyboards have a different ending, involving GrandPat hitting Rube with a cane and chasing him away.
"The Lil' Patscals"[]
- In the rough storyboards, Patrick switches from the traffic light channel to a show with paint drying. A similar joke would be used in "Time to Eat."
"Super Stars"[]
Andy Gonsalves' rough boards show a few scenes that were cut from the final version.
- Originally, the "Please Stand By" card Patrick uses was a color bar slide.
- When Patrick is running to change into his superhero outfit, he passes Squidina and tells her to hold his calls. Squidina pushes the phone into the garbage, and it rings.
- The detail of GrandPat being in the porta potty was not in the rough storyboards.
- In the original boards, Patrick says "Up, up, and away!", while the final version changed it to "Up, down, and away!"
- In the storyboards, when the announcer says "Super Patrick with the power of stupid!", Patrick gives a thumbs up and smashes into a wall. In the final, he starts saying, "Actually, I have super belly button--" before smashing into the wall.
- In the storyboards, Patrick says "Dad! We have fire insurance, right? Like, for a whole city?" In the final version, he says "Uh, Dad, what's insurance? And do we have it? And does it cover fire on everything?"
- The scene of the Stars being abducted by the tractor beam was originally longer. Squidina says "Oh, terrific, our show transitions are glitchin' out!", and Cecil responds, "This isn't a show transition! These are tractor beams!" Bunny says "But we're not tractors!", and Patrick says "Is there any way to change the colors? I want purple." GrandPat continues snoring.
"Now Museum, Now You Don't"[]
- In the rough boards, Patrick and Squidina kiss Cecil to congratulate him, and Tinkle jumps on his head to kiss him afterwards.
- GrandPat's newspaper says "Evening Herald 1912" and "Titanic Sets Sail with New Captain," with a picture of GrandPat in a sailor suit. In the final episode, no text can be read.
- After Cecil leaves, Patrick is overheard saying, "say, can I finish Dad's night breakfast?"
"Chum Bucket List"[]
- Patrick's slow marathon run was originally going to be shown. The final episode cuts to the medal ceremony.
- In the storyboards, a fish is seen holding a "9.5" scorecard after Patrick's final performance.
- In the storyboards, the curtains after Patrick does his stunt have the Patrick Show logo from "Bummer Jobs."
"Dr. Smart Science"[]
- The intro was longer, including a Patrick recreation of the Vitruvian Man and him in a depiction of evolution. "Star-Robics" would later feature a similar scene to the latter.
- Originally, when in space, Patrick was going to show off a "stink planet" with live-action pictures of a skunk, a sock, and stinky cheese floating around it, then put on a live-action gas mask to protect himself from it.
"Time to Eat"[]
- During the original version of the song, the line "I'm always in the mood" is accompanied by Patrick looking into a mood ring, which forms a Krabby Patty, and he eats the ring. Amanda Donahue describes that they cut this because it "ended up not clear enough to read quickly."[119]
Movies[]
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie[]
- Patchy the Pirate and Potty the Parrot were originally supposed to lead the pirate crew. In the final film, they were replaced by a real parrot and Captain Bart the Pirate.
- According to showrunner Vincent Waller, Patchy was replaced "because the movie folks don't really understand his appeal. Intentionally low production values scare them."[120]
- After Mr. Krabs says, "It started out as a simple order, a Krabby Patty with cheese," SpongeBob would've said, "So what went wrong?" before the rest of the scene continues normally. Interestingly, this line is still included in the tie-in video game on consoles.
- The animatic and some trailers include a fully animated scene of SpongeBob walking down the path to the front doors of the Krusty Krab after he says, "I'm going in."
- Phil's line when he starts talking about his family was slightly altered from the animatics. He originally said. "Yeah yeah, I've got a lovely wife, and two beautiful children," this was shortened to "I've got a wife and two beautiful children."
- When SpongeBob starts choosing his tool in the Animatic, he says, "I've only got one shot at this. I've got to have the right tool for the job. Bingo!," before he would've said, "I want you to do a favor, Phil." The "Bingo!" line was fully animated.
- There's a fully animated scene of SpongeBob putting cheese on the patty, which was used in a trailer.
- In the animatic, the "ceremony" when SpongeBob says, "Today is the grand opening ceremony of the Krusty Krab 2!" is missing. He also says, "and the announcement of new manager!," instead of "where Mr. Krabs will announce the new manager."
- After the scene where SpongeBob gets ready in his house, he was supposed to walk out to the Krusty Krab 2 before Sandy suddenly ambush him. After fighting a little, Sandy would've then told SpongeBob that she's waiting for a bus that'll take her to the surface to see a squirrel doctor.[121]
- When SpongeBob is depressed at Goofy Goober's in the animatic, he sings, "Goofy goofy goober goober yeah," this is missing in the final. Also, it's shot from in-front of SpongeBob in the animatic, instead of behind.
- In the animatic version, the scene of Patrick's toy getting thrown at him is missing. The scene of SpongeBob hearing "Triple Goober Berry Sunrise" is also missing.
- SpongeBob says, "ah" before "Boy, Pat" in the animatic.
- When SpongeBob asks for another serving, he refers to the waiter as a "bartender."
- There's an extra scene with SpongeBob and Patrick is with Goofy Goober in the animatic. The scene starts with SpongeBob saying "Let me hear you, people," before a son asks his mother if they can go home. SpongeBob and Patrick call them party poopers before they say "Waiter!." This also means the "it's a little ditty called" line is skipped.
- After SpongeBob wakes up, the animatic includes this extra scene. The bartender says "I'm tryin' to get outta here!," before SpongeBob asks for a "double fudge spinny," before the bartender tells him that it's "eight in the morning." This line was rejected from the film but was still used in the Ice-Cream Dreams book.
- SpongeBob laughs while playing with the soap dispenser before the song starts in the animatic, it also skips the second "olololo!" "yeyeye!"

- After Squidward starts realizing Plankton's plan, there's a deleted scene of the car driver saying "that's right," before the car drives away, and Squidward saying, "Something smells fishy around here. And for once it isn't my laundry."
- Once Squidward enters the Chum Bucket, he says "So, you're selling the Krabby Patty, eh Plankton?," instead of "So you're selling Krabby Patties, eh, Plankton?"
- After SpongeBob and Patrick stop laughing at Patrick's Victor imitation, there's an unused line with SpongeBob "How about when he's all like? Well, well, well looks like we've got ourselves a double baby!" before Patrick would've said. "And then they were all like. It wasn't us, it wasn't us!"
- SpongeBob shows Patrick a pocket calendar, reading March 13th, presumably explaining that they only have one more day left of their quest, and would have taken place after they sing "Now That We're Men". All that is known about this particular scene is of a still promotional image that has been released to promote the film, presumably before its release, meaning that the scene was fully animated.
- The scene of Patrick saying "hi" to one of the skulls isn't present in the animatic. SpongeBob's response to Patrick is also missing.
- When Patrick saves SpongeBob, he doesn't ask if he has the ice cream in the animatic.
- The beginning of Now That We're Men includes the extended intro from the background track, Fight! Fight! Fight!.
- When Patrick's pants are ripped off, it shows the monster that ripped it off.
- The last verse of Now That We're Men has very different shots.
- After SpongeBob and Patrick escape Shell City, they would have encountered Sandy in the middle of a city, who here has the appearance of a real-life squirrel causing Patrick to vomit out of disgust. In the same deleted scene, Sandy is also getting constantly pursued all over the place by squirrel exterminators in black suits. She also mentions that there are buses that arrive in Shell City and Bikini Bottom. Shortly after this, SpongeBob and Patrick would've then ran past human versions of themselves. This would would eventually come to fruition about 15 years later.

- SpongeBob and friends singing "Thank Gosh It's Monday," which would have been used to begin the movie.
- In the first trailer, Burger Beard explains that the Magic Book's powers can only be activated by having the Krabby Patty formula. However, that idea was scrapped. Now things can come true by re-writing the story even without the formula.

Mr. Krabs would tell him to make something which would end up as a Nasty Patties. Mr. Krabs says that these patties will have to do. After Mr. Krabs serves them to the customers, they throw up on Squidward and accuse SpongeBob of poisoning them. Despite being cut from the movie, the Nasty Patties still appear in SpongeBob HeroPants as a weapon for throwing at enemies.

- SpongeBob and Plankton time-traveling to the Mesozoic era, where they encounter Patrickosaurus and Squidasaurus Rex. This scene was taken out of the movie. However, both dinosaurs appear in SpongeBob HeroPants. This was either cut to save time or to surprise the audience when Patrick returns to the present with the Squidasaurus Rex.
- Another time-traveling scene had SpongeBob and Plankton visiting Bikini Bottom in the future twice with all of the citizens being cyborgs and steam-powered cyborgs. But it was cut possibly to save time or it was changed to a desert part of Bikini Bottom.
- A mad car chase scene with SpongeBob and Plankton and ends with SpongeBob receiving an F- from Mrs. Puff after crashing. This was cut for unknown reasons.
- According to a Q&A with Dave Cunningham, remarking his favorite deleted scenes, he said, "I snuck a parody of Brad Vandergrift into a car chase scene in Sponge Out of Water that was cut when that sequence didn't make it... that's definitely one."
- A montage of Mr. Krabs thoroughly cleaning SpongeBob's brain, similar to "Brainwashing," this was cut to save time.
- Plankton telling SpongeBob to make Krabby Patties by using his memory muscles at the Taco Haüs. This was scrapped and instead replaced with SpongeBob, Plankton, and Karen building a time machine with using stuff inside Taco Haüs.
- SpongeBob saying, "Clean it up just clean it up" during the scene where he clean up the remains of Jupiter and Saturn under the floor.
- A scene of Burger Beard in his ship is telling his seagulls a story about him when he was younger. This was most likely cut to save time.
- In the scene where Patrick eats a gigantic ice cream, it was planned to be on the beach and not in the kid's hand.

- A cameo appearance by Saul Hudson as a street musician. Like David Hasselhoff jumping out of the water, it was in the trailer

- The movie's storyline changed many times through its development. Originally pitched as a hybrid live-action/animated movie, the plot would have focused around Gary being kidnapped by King Neptune and taken to Atlantis in order to be cloned. Paramount Pictures rejected it as they feared that the movie would underperform due to being set in Atlantis.[122]
- Another storyline taking a more "Science-fiction" approach and featuring anthropomorphic cats as the main antagonists was later made. According to multiple concept art and storyboards, Gary was kidnapped by the cats leading SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward and Sandy to rescue him. Throughout the story, they would have visited different worlds such as a futuristic-like world inhabited by dolphins. According to an interview with Tim Hill about the movie, the reason why this second storyline was scrapped was because "the previous script was a bit too far-fetched." And that "Steve was always a fan of grounded, relatable and simple stories."[123]
- The flashbacks set in Camp Coral were originally at the start of the movie.
- Margaret SquarePants and Harold SquarePants were originally meant to drive SpongeBob to Camp Coral. They still appears in the junior novelization, and the Welcome to Camp Coral! and Happy Campers! books.
- The opening scene was different and would have featured Pearl Krabs rollerskating around her house while Mr. Krabs counts money. In the final cut, this scene was shortened to only include Mr. Krabs counting money.
- In a deleted scene, Patrick would've attempted to surprise SpongeBob by doing a "Ninja Sumo Surprise" grip.
- In a deleted scene, SpongeBob would've stopped by Sandy's house where he would saw her, farming in her Treedome.
- After SpongeBob entered the Krusty Krab, he would suddenly start to build a clock card machine called "Punch-O-Matic." This scene can be seen in the bonus feature "The Amazing Stages of Animation" in the DVD and Blu-ray release of the movie.
- Plankton would've sung a scrapped song where he laments on his failures.
- Poseidon's Palace had a different design in some storyboards.
- When SpongeBob first searches for Gary, the slime was originally green, but was later changed to blue.
- Also, when SpongeBob looks in Gary's litter box in the first trailer, Gary's droppings are visible in his litter box, but in the second trailer, it is removed. In the finished movie, the version with Gary's droppings being visible in his litter box is used, but with a different expression on SpongeBob's face.
- The scene where SpongeBob stands on the street shouting Gary's name in despair is replaced with him shouting Gary's name through his pineapple, which appears with SpongeBob's mouth.
- The scene where SpongeBob asks Sandy, Squidward and Mr. Krabs if they have seen Gary from the first trailer is not in the final movie.
- Patrick's line "Friends don't let friends go on dangerous quests alone!" from the said trailer is also omitted.
- Originally in order to motivate SpongeBob, Patrick would've sung a song titled "Things Go Better With Friends."
- There's two versions of the same scene where SpongeBob kicks his front door open. In the first trailer, SpongeBob has a mad look on his face while Patrick talks to him. While in the World Laughter Day TV spot, SpongeBob is shown plugging his nose and airing himself while laughing with Patrick. Also, the background is brighter.
- During their road-trip, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Otto would've drove through a sulfur-filled coral field at one point.
- SpongeBob and Patrick were originally meant to dresses up as fake celebrities in order to infiltrate Poseidon's Palace, instead of crashing through the palace with a scooter. This scene can still be found in the junior novelization and The Great Gary Rescue! book.
