As a result of the massive popularity of SpongeBob SquarePants, a plethora of memes have spawned from it, and are widespread among the internet.

List of memes

New Student Starfish: SpongeBob and Patrick are talking at the desk and SpongeBob thought of something funnier than 24. He wants to hear it and he says 25. This meme is mostly used for unfunny jokes.

Are ya feelin' it now, Mr. Krabs?

MidLife Crustacean115

"Mid-Life Crustacean": SpongeBob and Patrick ask Mr. Krabs if they are feeling it for the Panty Raid. There is a version of this saying, "Art thou feeling it now, Misiour Krabs?" One popular version is when Patrick sits on Harold Bill Reginald Scott

Unfortunately, this meme is almost always interpreted as being sexual and a lot of inappropriate memes came from this. However, "Are you feeling it now" is just Spongebob asking if Mr. Krabs feels young again.

Another version is with Mr. Krabs' (and sometimes SpongeBob's) head is replaced with Shulk from the video game Xenoblade Chronicles, whose catchphrase is, "I'm really feeling it!"

"Ripped Pants": SpongeBob goes up to Harold and asks him "Is that a burger you're having?". He says "Why yes, it is".

The meme is mostly use for situations where someone is annoying or spying on them intrusively.

This is a popular meme on YouTube, replacing the man in the shower with a scene from another show or movie, with Neptune witnessing it.

The man in the shower is actually Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob and others.

When Mrs. Puff sees this, she takes on the same appearance as the drawing and says "As if I really look like this!", then puts the picture in a drawer with other ugly pictures of her inside.

Patrick's picture and Mrs. Puff forming into such can be replaced with various other things.

Big Meaty Claws

"Band Geeks": After playing horribly, Harold says how the band might not sound so bad if some people (referring to Mr. Krabs) didn't try to play with big meaty claws. Mr. Krabs then grabs him and asks what he said, Harold then says "Big... Meaty... Claws!" It has been prominently featured more often in YouTube videos than as an image.

Breath in Boi

Kah Rah Tay Contest: A pair of images of SpongeBob clasping his hands together and leaning over. The images are also commonly used as a reaction image to various instances of people making an unwise decision.

Bubble Bowl Performance

"Band Geeks": Squidward's band performs at the Bubble Bowl.

One would replace Sweet Victory with a different song. It is very popular on YouTube. Clips from other SpongeBob episodes, as well as The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, are used too. Some examples would be "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, "The Final Countdown" by Europe, and "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. Some use parts where characters speak rather than sing, involving characters other than SpongeBob representing the singer at some points and/or do not use clips from "Band Geeks." The meme is usually called "SpongeBob sings (song name)."

Chocolate with Nuts 018

"Chocolate with Nuts": While SpongeBob and Patrick are selling chocolate, they come across an insane, chocoholic Tom at numerous times.

This has made "Chocolate with Nuts" one of the most popular SpongeBob episodes. This fad is also a very popular subject in remixes, YouTube Poops, edits, Sparta remixes, and parodies.

Wishing You Well 151

Wishing You Well: Squidward notices that Patrick is standing close to him and he says "Can you not stand so close, you're making me claustrophobic". Patrick questions what that even means and SpongeBob thinks he's afraid of Santa Claus. Squidward corrects him that the word doesn't even mean that. Patrick poorly imitates Santa's laughs and SpongeBob screams "Stop it Patrick, you're scaring him"!

Later in the episode, Patrick sits on Squidward, who again states that he is claustrophobic. Patrick responds, "Nice try, Squidward, but there's no Santa Claus here!"

The scream is then looped in reverse. The meme is usually known as "(Name) Drops By Squidward's House." This is popular in Sparta Remixes on YouTube.

"Frankendoodle": SpongeBob and Patrick find a pencil and find out that anything drawn with it comes to life. They draw another SpongeBob named DoodleBob as a prank, who then beats up Squidward. SpongeBob realizes they have to get rid of him, but DoodleBob steals the pencil. He then uses the pencil to draw a bowling ball and rolls it at Patrick. Patrick turns into a bowling pin, and gets knocked over. SpongeBob asks "You okay, Patrick?" and Patrick screams "FINLAND!" As well as that, "Finland" is briefly heard in "Accidents Will Happen" and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

This has become popular on YouTube due to Patrick's loud screaming of it.

Gentle Rhythm of the Sea

"Squidtastic Voyage": The French Narrator begins by studying the "gently rhythm of the sea", only for loud dance music to blast from SpongeBob's house.

The dance music is replaced with another similar-sounding song or track.

Hi how are ya

This has become popular among YouTube remixes and reactions used in Tumblr quotes.

Hey Patrick What Am I?

In the episode "Texas" when trying to get Sandy to follow them to the Krusty Krab for the party, SpongeBob and Patrick make fun of Texas. One of the things they do is SpongeBob makes himself look like Texas, then says "Hey Patrick what am I?" to which Patrick replies "Uh, stupid?" The music is usually used in tense or saddening scenes. More APM tracks started to get used when the meme grew popular such as Grass Skirt Chase.

"Idiot Box": This meme involves the photo of SpongeBob spreading his hands, forming a rainbow, saying "Ima-gin-ation!" to talk to Squidward about imagination. It happens throughout the episode.

This has become very popular on fads, memes, and YTPs and is often called "Imagination." The most popular image associated with it is SpongeBob saying "Nobody Cares" instead.

Inappropriate Timing SpongeBob Banner

Inappropriate Timing SpongeBob Banner is a meme based on a Nickelodeon bumper featuring SpongeBob. Occurring on May 12, 2012, on "And the Winner Is...," the sixth episode of The Legend of Korra, it has become incredibly popular by being turned into a GIF on a Tumblr blog.

The banner would appear onscreen during an emotional scene of a TV series or movie, to mock poorly timed cross-promo ads during broadcasting. SpongeBob's expression combined with the drama of the scene would often make viewers joke about SpongeBob being mean.

Placed horizontally in an Increasingly Verbose meme format, the most carefree casual scene is placed on the top, with everso increasingly buff versions of SpongeBob placed below, accompanied by the subject meme target being placed beside each scene.

The scene has become a classic meme on the Internet, with Patrick saying: "Is __ an Instrument?" and Squidward responds, "No Patrick, __ is not an instrument," having the word "mayonnaise" replaced by another random word. This has become very popular in remixes and edits.

Occasionally, "instrument" may be replaced with a different word to show any type of logical confusion in a given context.

It Took SpongeBob to Master This

"Naughty Nautical Neighbors": SpongeBob crudely plays Squidward's "bassinet" and destroys it in rage. It goes like this:

  • SpongeBob: Give me an A, buddy.
  • (Squidward blows an A on the clarinet)
  • SpongeBob: Squidward is my best friend in the worrrrrrld.
  • SpongeBob: Squidward is my best friend in the seeeeaa.
  • Squidward: AHHH! GRRRRR!
  • SpongeBob: Squidward-
  • Patrick: Likes Patrick more than Spongebob.
  • SpongeBob: And Patrick is a dirty, stinky, rotten friend stealer! Uhh, I can fix this.

This meme was usually named "It Took SpongeBob [amount of time] to Master this," e.g. if it is a movie theme, the number is the year of the movie being released.

It's a giraffe!

Leedle Leedle Leedle Lee!

"Shanghaied": When the Flying Dutchman tells SpongeBob and Patrick to howl along with him, so they could "set the seven seas ablaze with fear," instead of howling, Patrick just says "Leedle leedle leedle lee!" much to the Dutchman's annoyance.

The meme will show how long Patrick says "Leedle leedle leedle lee" for a certain amount of time. It is also in the early versions of Slender: The Eight Pages called SpongeBob Slendypants, a free to play indie horror.

Look at it!

Look at it!

Look at it!

"Something Smells": Patrick announces to everyone if they cannot see ugly in the face, so he holds SpongeBob up for everyone to see, causing everyone to run away.

Maybe it's the way you're dressed?

"Something Smells": Patrick suggests SpongeBob that perhaps the way SpongeBob has dressed himself is what could've scared away everyone.

It was discovered that a short section of the scene is able to sound similar to the speech of Sans from Undertale. As a result, a few videos of recreating Sans' voice from this SpongeBob scene have been made. Some users on the internet have also mentioned the quote "Maybe it's the way you're dressed?" too. (Mentioned most often when talked about the Sans Mii Fighter Costume in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with the Mii usually asking "Why is everyone usng me now", then a different character replying "Maybe it's the way you're dressed?".)

Moar Krabs

Despite the context, the meme pertains closer to Mr. Krabs' take on the subject; it features SpongeBob "mocking" a specified text (which is actually more related to the plot of "Mimic Madness" instead of "Little Yellow Book"), and is written in toggle case. The meme started to become popular in early 2017, and is usually associated with text written in uppercase and lowercase letters. It is considered one of the most popular SpongeBob memes of the present day.

Morbid Patrick

Spoons rattling

"Pizza Delivery": SpongeBob tries to show Squidward how the pioneers hitchhiked. He does a strange dance while Squidward plays spoons. A still during this sequence with the closed-caption "(spoons rattling)" below (Squidward was playing the spoons during this, hence the caption) has recently become popular online. Since GenderoftheDay first posted the still on Tumblr in late October 2014 and received over 2,800 notes, the image has become popular on sites such as iFunny. Many people began applying edits to the image (see below).

Squidward fad

An example of the Squidward fad, containing the original image

The Squidward Fad (aka Ward Fad) is perhaps one of the most popular SpongeBob fads. Images of Squidward Tentacles (or another character) are altered using different visual effects while Gentle Breeze (music used in Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2) is played in the background. This fad has been used with other images of many different characters (such as Moar Krabs or Skodwarde), even with characters outside SpongeBob SquarePants.

The original video contained an image from the episode "Prehibernation Week," in the scene where Sandy goes to the Krusty Krab to start a search for SpongeBob, and Squidward is pleased to hear that he is gone. A video of this fad is usually named "(name) Ward," or sometimes given another strange name in accordance to the character's name.

SpongeBob Licking Things

"Krusty Krab Training Video": At the end the episode SpongeBob is seen licking a Krabby Patty poster. It is usually portrayed in a sexual manner or SpongeBob is replaced as something else and so is the poster, an example being EA licking Microtransactions.

Why do we eat tidepods.

SpongeBob traveling in drag

This scene from Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy where SpongeBob is pretending to be a damsel in distress to get the heroes out of their retirement, went popular on Twitter on June 2nd of 2019. People made photo edits in a Twitter thread where SpongeBob was traveling in different types of outfits that are stereotypical to the country that he is visiting.

Squidward Looking Out the Window

That Sinking Feeling 04

Original scene

"That Sinking Feeling": Squidward watches SpongeBob and Patrick running outside his house from behind his curtains. This meme is used in situations where someone jealously observes others having fun but can't participate themselves.

Squidward's Lounge Chair

Squidward bored meme template

"The Paper": Squidward initially plans to put his lounge chair outside to rest after throwing away his chewing gum paper but then hears SpongeBob come outside to call his attention. Squidward subsequently packs up his lounge chair and boredly walks off back to his house.

The meme, featuring only the unpacking and packing up of the lounge chair, implies that Squidward is excited for or is no longer excited for an unknown unseen occurrence. The meme format consists of a subject (portrayed by Squidward) confronting Instance A (portrayed by his willingness to unpack his lounge chair) and Instance B (portrayed by his diswillingness to enjoy resting on his lounge chair) in two different cells.

Squidward's Patty

Squidward's patty

"The Algae's Always Greener": An angered Nat who said, "You think this is funny?", visits "Mr." Plankton. Plankton responded yes in a sarcastic way. Nat then showed him a so-called "Krabby Patty" that Squidward made (because he and SpongeBob switched jobs). Plankton started by saying, "What? It's just an ordinary Krabby..." However, he takes one look at it and exclaims, "OH MY GOODNESS! SQUIDWARD!"

This has become popular with YouTube videos, and occasionally becomes part of an edited video. More often, part of the video is edited to suit the given reason for the video, with different characters and objects portraying different things: Nat as the complainer, the Squidward Krabby Patty as the bad object or event, Plankton as the scapegoat of the bad object or event, and Squidward as the real owner or cause of the bad object or event.

Steppin' on the Beach

"Walking Small": This meme shows SpongeBob walking and saying "Steppin' on the Beach!"

Everyday I'm Steppin' on the Beach

Everyday I'm Steppin' on the Beach

This has been used to make some parodies of it on YouTube in Sparta Remixes, as well as some 10 hour videos about it.

A popular video featuring "Party Rock Anthem" replacing "Every day I'm shufflin" with "Everyday I'm steppin on the beach" contributed to its popularity.

Another edit of the scene is "Lying Coldly On The Beach," which also incorporated parts from the episodes "Krusty Krab Training Video" (the announcer's introduction of the Krabby Patty) and "Krusty Towers" (the building's collapse).

Surprised/Starstruck Patrick

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and Scavenger Pants: When SpongeBob and Patrick lose the Patty Wagon, they make surprised faces with their mouths wide open. Patrick's surprised face (known as "Surprised Patrick" or "Starstruck Patrick") has become popular as a reaction image. It has also been edited into many scenes from media that are seen as shocking.

Nickelodeon used the meme in promotions for the Kids' Choice Awards in 2015 and 2016. They officially referred to the meme as "Star-Struck Patrick." In the episode "Scavenger Pants," the meme was acknowledged, and Patrick's surprised face returned. SpongeBob also has a surprised expression in the episode, but it is not the same from the movie and looks more like Patrick's.

The Inner Machinations of my Mind are an Enigma

The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma

"The Secret Box": Patrick says he is more complicated than an open book. He then says, "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma." He then imagines a milk carton spilling over a table.

The image of the milk carton spilling is replaced by something else, and the title often replaces the word "machinations" or "enigma."

Things are gonna get crazy!

Things Are Gonna Get Crazy

Things are gonna get crazy!

"Moving Bubble Bass": When Bubble Bass ate their free lunch, Patrick said that if he does not give them their lunches, things are gonna get crazy.

This meme has gained popularity for the crazy realistic face alongside the quote that goes with it.

Interestingly, many YouTubers have created original videos of the same scene coincidentally.

This is a Load of Barnacles...

"Prehibernation Week": Dave tells another fish "This is a load of barnacles," referring to Sandy's excessive search for SpongeBob, only for Sandy to reply "I heard that!"

The line, as well as the face Dave makes, have become extremely popular, and is often used in relation to trolls or ridiculous statements.

Tired SpongeBob

Nature Pants 095 (1999)
"Nature Pants": When Patrick is chasing him in Jellyfish Fields to get SpongeBob back. As soon as he thinks Patrick stopped chasing him. He catches a breath. This meme became popular on August of 2018 on a Reddit post.

This meme had a similar meme popularity history to "Savage Patrick".

Too Much Sauce

"The Algae's Always Greener": SpongeBob asks "Mr." Plankton if he does something wrong with the Krabby Patty making. Plankton responds: "Too Much Sauce." SpongeBob straightens his arms, makes an Asian/Chinese type face, and moves his arms back & forth while saying "uh uh uh."

This has become very popular on the internet. The face SpongeBob makes has also been compared to the stereotypical Chinese/Asian look (similar to DEUUEAUGH!), featuring some racism. This has also been popular in Sparta remixes.

Tough SpongeBob

I only cried for 20 minutes

"No Weenies Allowed": SpongeBob tries to get into a stereotypically tough club known as The Salty Spitoon with his friend, Sandy. After repeatedly being turned down by the bouncer, SpongeBob tells him a story about a time he stubbed his toe while watering his spice garden and that he "only cried for twenty minutes."

On August 14, 2012, an image macro titled "Tough SpongeBob" was submitted to the [1] subreddit with a caption asserting that the poster had deleted a saved Pokémon game file that had a completed Pokedex and only cried for 20 minutes (shown below), however, the post only received 8 upvotes and 7 points overall prior to being archived.

Ugly Barnacle Story

Main article: The Ugly Barnacle
"Something Smells": Patrick tells SpongeBob the story: "Once there was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died. The end." SpongeBob responds, "That didn't help at all!"

This meme has become extremely popular on YouTube, and is often the basis for Sparta Remixes. Furthermore, SpongeBob and Patrick have been replaced by other characters, via pictures or videos.

Victory Screech

A Sparta Remix Example

A Sparta Remix Example

An example of the Victory Screech with Magma Centipede's Stage theme playing as the base for the remix.

"The Algae's Always Greener": After the alternate Mr. Krabs has been defeated by SpongeBob, SpongeBob declares "Victory Screech!", and proceeds to make an "OLOLOLOLOLO" sound that all of the patrons (except Plankton, who tenses up at hearing the screech) copying SpongeBob.

This is often used in relation to a ridiculous victory. In an alternate version of this meme, a scream from another franchise is inserted or SpongeBob's voice is edited to make it sound like an existing song or theme song.

Wee Woo, Wee Woo

"Hall Monitor": This is supposed to be Patrick's siren when he acts as a police cop. While searching for the culprit, he goes "Wee woo, wee woo, wee woo, wee woo, wee woo" rather scaredly. When he suddenly found the culprit, who turns out to be SpongeBob, he immediately shouts, "Wee woo, wee woo, wee woo!"

This meme has gained popularity due to the weird way of imitating a police car. In several memes, Patrick's "wee woo" sounds are voiced over actual emergency vehicles, especially police cars. More often, the original scene is used but is modified so that the "maniac" is replaced with a different character or person, as well as replacing SpongeBob with that different character.

We have technology

Wet Painters 108

We have technology

"Wet Painters": SpongeBob and Patrick attempt to remove the spot in Mr. Krabs' first dollar bill using various methods, including banging the dollar bill with physical objects. SpongeBob tells him that "Nothing's working!" where Patrick then tells him that they are "not cavemen" and says "We have technology" after approaching an old early-2000's computer. He then uses the computer to bash the dollar bill.

This meme has been popular in animated versions of the scene and also for old computer memes such as videos of bashing, usually, a computer with one of the "worst" operating systems installed on it (although a lot of popular ones will target the more popular or "overrated" operating systems or place a video on the computer, most that are inappropriate). It has also appeared as part of technology image macros.

Welcome to The Salty Spitoon. How tough are ya?

No Weenies Allowed 028

"No Weenies Allowed": Reg asks the tough guy about how tough he really is. The tough guy says that he ate a bowl of nails without any milk.

We Should Take Bikini Bottom and Push It Somewhere Else

"Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm": When the citizens are worried about the giant worm, they talk about a number of ways to protect themselves. Patrick says, "We should take Bikini Bottom and push it somewhere else!"

The meme is quite versatile, but everyone follows the same model; on the top it says, "We should x," and on the bottom it says, "and y." The following pictures are examples of this meme, although one of them works differently from the normal model. Another example of this meme is in Patrick Star for President 2012. "We should take Mexico and push it somewhere else!"

We're Talking About This!

"Krusty Love": SpongeBob, who is suffering a meltdown after buying so many items for Mrs. Puff, finally lashes out at Mr. Krabs, telling him "And then you'll say: 'We're not talking about THIS, or THIS, we're talking about thisssss!'" He draws a triangle in the air with the first "this," a square with the second "this," and then draws over the entire screen with the last "this."

When You See a Repost

"Fools in April": When You See a Repost refers to a reaction image macro of a high-quality image of the character Tom before he asks "What did you do to my drink?" (another internet meme). Many of the jokes and variations of the meme feature the image of Tom with the phrasal template "when you see a repost but." The meme is based on the idea of someone reposting a meme in better image quality than the original.

Who are you people?!

"Prehibernation Week": After Patrick arrives home with groceries, he notices a bunch of people under his rock, which leads him to yell out "Who are you people?!"

This has been featured in numerous of memes and a few videos most notably Facebook. This meme is also featured in another famous Patrick line, "We should take Bikini Bottom, and push it somewhere else!"

Who Put You on the Planet? Ugh!

"I ♥ Dancing": After SpongeBob starts dancing and Squidward calls it the stupidest dance move he's ever seen, SpongeBob says, "Who put you on the planet? Ugh!"

This meme referred to the video: "The Spirit of Truth: Survival Scroll Dance", where a man in the video does a similar dance move and says the same quote at the end. This has made it a fairly popular fad on YouTube.

Who Ya' Callin' Pinhead?

Who you callin Pinhead by cusackanne-1-

"Survival of the Idiots": When SpongeBob and Patrick pretend to be Dirty Dan and Pinhead Larry while Sandy hibernates, SpongeBob calls Patrick "Pinhead." Patrick is then seen with a human-like face, saying, "Who ya' callin' Pinhead?"

This image has become incredibly popular as a subject of remixes, edits, and parodies, as well as being called one of the best lines in cartoon history from YouTube videos.

Why, I'm Squidward!

"Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV": Squidward has shrunk and Patrick plays with Squidward and after Patrick made Squidward kiss the pickle he explains to SpongeBob what the word Wumbo means.

"Just One Bite": After Squidward is caught sneaking off with a Krabby Patty, SpongeBob asks him several questions. Soon, SpongeBob makes a certain facial expression by raising his head and biting his lower lips, saying, "You like Krabby Patties, don't you Squidward?"

SpongeBob's facial expression has become very popular in Internet videos. Other people copying SpongeBob's facial expression have also parodied it.

"Walking Small": Plankton reveals the construction of the Mega Bucket and he asked why he used him to be assertive just for land development was used back when Sweet Victory was just replaced by Sicko Mode in Super Bowl LIII.
