Character

Kelpy G is a famous clarinet player who Squidward admires. He first appears in the episode "The Thing."

Description[]

Kelpy G's appearance is like most octopuses in the show: tall and teal with four legs. He has long, light brown hair and a regular brown mustache. He wears an orange, long-sleeve turtleneck with three red stripes on it. However, in "Smoothe Jazz at Bikini Bottom," he wears leather black shoes that look like SpongeBob's and a long purple dress-shirt.

In the third movie, Kelpy G has darker and curly hair. He also now wears a golden chain around his neck, and a red shirt with white full sleeves. He also has less stress marks on his forehead.

Personality[]

He seems to be a very mellow octopus who believes in peace and tranquility.

Role in series[]

"The Thing"[]

Squidward is seen watching Kelpy G on public television, but is interrupted by SpongeBob and Patrick, who are trying to "enhance" Squidward's evening. Squidward reluctantly lets SpongeBob and Patrick watch with him, only to be bombarded with questions.

Later, SpongeBob and Patrick try to bring Squidward back home, as they think he is a creature. When brining him back home they see a group of animals that look similar to Squidward and bring him to his "real home." Kelpy G is seen playing clarinet for these creatures.

"Bucket Sweet Bucket"[]

His music can be heard through Squidward's headphones.

"A Flea in Her Dome"[]

As Squidward walks by the treedome, His music can be heard through his headphones.

"Enchanted Tiki Dreams"[]

Squidward puts Kelpy G on the radio, only to be interrupted by SpongeBob and Patrick playing with an Eel.

"Smoothe Jazz at Bikini Bottom"[]

Squidward is listening to Kelpy G on the radio, when the radio announces that there is a concert tonight, but the tickets are sold out. Squidward remembers that he has tickets, so he could go to the concert, but Patrick eats them. Squidward and SpongeBob use the phones for a chance to win more tickets, but they keep on losing. SpongeBob finally figures it out and they both can go backstage to meet Kelpy G.

Squidward and, now at the concert area tries to get rid of SpongeBob by making him wait at a long Lemonade Stand line, but is unsuccessful. During the concert Patrick ends up eating SpongeBob and Squidward's Backstage passes, angering Squidward.

Squidward and SpongeBob both attempt to impress Kelpy G. Squidward begins to play the clarinet, while SpongeBob plays the ukulele. Kelpy G is impressed with SpongeBob's ukulele playing. The fans wait for Kelpy G to come, and he does, but there is a partner with him, who happens to be SpongeBob. Squidward comes out on the stage to prove that he is better. However, the guards carry him out, as the episode ends.

He is seen on the cover of a magazine that Squidward reads.

"Sir Urchin and Snail Fail"[]

He has a cameo appearance in the background of the Recreation Center.

"Friendiversary"[]

Squidward is reminiscing about the time he went to a Kelpy G concert, only to figure out SpongeBob modified the photo.

"Squidiot Box"[]

He makes a silent cameo playing at a jazz club that Squidward imagines.

Role in movies[]

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run[]

Kelpy G was scheduled to perform at SpongeBob and Patrick's execution at Atlantic City, which was the only reason Squidward joined the rest of the gang on the road to the city. Later, he briefly played a somber tune as Mr. Krabs was telling his backstory of meeting SpongeBob.

Biography[]

Kelpy G has his very own TV show where he performs smooth jazz. He also performs smooth jazz for the Smellies; he calls them "his children," suggesting that he is their leader.

He appears in the episodes "The Thing" and "Smoothe Jazz at Bikini Bottom," both of in which he performs a jazz song on Squidward's TV and performs a concert. In the former, Squidward is annoyed that SpongeBob and Patrick keep interrupting while he is trying to listen to Kelpy G play.

In the latter, Squidward attempts to meet Kelpy G but gets kicked out as SpongeBob plays with the musician.

He is shown playing at the Lost City of Atlantic City in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. His performance convinces Squidward to go along with the other main characters to find SpongeBob. He performs in the opening act of SpongeBob and Patrick's execution.

Trivia[]

  • He is a parody of Kenny G.
  • His music can be heard in "Bucket Sweet Bucket," "A Flea in Her Dome," and "Enchanted Tiki Dreams," but he is not seen in those episodes.
  • Even though he met Squidward in "The Thing," he does not seem to recognize him when he meets him again in "Smoothe Jazz at Bikini Bottom."
  • Kelpy G's clothing is different in each of his appearances.
