Kah Rah Tay Contest is a SpongeBob SquarePants online game. It is based on "Karate Choppers."
It was released in 2003.
Gameplay[]
The in-game instructions are as follows:
"SpongeBob and Sandy are practicing their Kah Rah Tay and YOU get to help! Use your mouse to sneak attacks through their defenses. You can either click on SpongeBob or Sandy as many times you want, and in any order you choose. Light up three stars over either character and you get to perform one of three spectacular finishing moves!"
In-game, Sandy (right) and SpongeBob (left) will repeatedly switch between three different poses. Clicking on Sandy will cause SpongeBob to attack her, and vice versa. Sandy and SpongeBob can attack in each other in three areas: The legs, the torso, and the face; all of which are done by clicking in the respective areas.
Each pose has either one or two "weak spots" where an attack will hit, which are as follows:
SpongeBob:
- Standing up with tongue sticking out: Torso/Legs
- Standing up with legs crossed and arms in the air: Legs/Face
- Jumping: Face
Sandy:
- Standing Normally: Face (helmet)
- Leaning forward: Face
- One leg and one hand in the air, looking upwards: Torso/Legs
A successful attack will cause a star to light up over the character who was struck. An unsuccessful attack will cause a star to disappear, assuming there was one.
A successful hit in each area will cause a different reaction, as follows:
SpongeBob:
- Face: SpongeBob's face will be smushed into his body and will pop out a few seconds later
- Torso: SpongeBob will nearly fall over, standing on one leg. He will then fart and giggle.
- Legs: SpongeBob will scream in pain as a gigantic lump appears on his left leg. He will clutch his leg and wince as the lump pulses repeatedly.
Sandy:
- Face: Sandy will fly backwards and her head will spin around, and she will hold her helmet to stabilize it.
- Torso: Sandy will throw up water and yell "Ouch!" while clutching her stomach.
- Legs: A lump will appear on Sandy's left leg; she will stand still for a moment before yelping and rubbing it with a sheepish grin on her face.
If all three stars are lit up above a character, they will become dizzy and lose their balance. The word "now!" will flash in the middle of the screen, allowing the player to perform a special finishing move on another player by clicking a certain area.
The finishing moves are as follows:
SpongeBob:
- Head: Sandy will slice SpongeBob's body in half, causing him to scream.
- Torso: Sandy will rip SpongeBob's arms off and throw them away.
- Legs: Sandy will slide her foot across SpongeBob's leg, causing him to spin around. His body will appear mis-matched and his pants will disappear.
Sandy:
- Head: SpongeBob will punch a hole in Sandy's helmet and poke her nose.
- Torso: SpongeBob will repeatedly smack Sandy in the face, severely disorienting her.
- Legs: SpongeBob will slam his foot on Sandy's as hard as he can, squashing it and causing her to scream in pain and grow to a comically large size, taking up about half of the screen.
After this is done, the game will resume as normal. If no finishing move is performed, Sandy/SpongeBob will regain their balance and the fight will still continue.
If the player clikcs the "quit" button, SpongeBob and Sandy will bow to each other one last time and then the game over screen appears with a button option to play again.
Glitches[]
- When Sandy/SpongeBob is dizzy, clicking on them very fast will cause their dizziness animation to loop endlessly (and also causes the wobbling sound effect to overlap several times) until the player stops. It is much easier to perform on Sandy.
- Because Sandy's dizziness animation does not loop perfectly, the wobbling sound effect will play twice very quickly if a finishing move is not performed on her.
