Jelly bees, also known as bumblejellies, are a species of jellyfish who first appear in the episode "FarmerBob." Despite the fact that jellyfish are often portrayed as bees themselves, these look more similar to bees in their appearance.
Description[]
Jelly bees are smaller than normal jellyfish and have only four tentacles. They are mostly yellow with two black stripes, like an actual bee. Their tentacles are a light shade of green.
Role in series[]
"FarmerBob"[]
One appears as it buzzes across Old Man Jenkins' kelp patch while SpongeBob and Patrick try to harvest it. Patrick is determined to drive Jenkins' tractor without getting distracted, but he immediately freaks out when he sees the jelly bee. SpongeBob tries to catch the pesky sea-roaming insect with a rope, but he misses and it flies into his nose. The bug ends up flying out through one of his holes and then stings him.
"The Flower Plot"[]
When Petunia gives Squidward a bouquet of flowers, he sniffs it, then a jelly bee emerges from the bouquet and stings Squidward's nose, which swells along with Squidward's head.
"Friendiversary"[]
They are seen stinging Squidward in a picture of his and SpongeBob's time at Kamp Koral.
"In the Mood to Feud"[]
The Narwhal family hold an annual bumblejelly harvest at Bikini Holler. There, they consent to the bumblejellies stinging them, then harvest their honey.
"Kreepaway Kamp"[]
Jelly bees appear as lights during the final song sequence.
Role in SpongeBob Simulator[]
A jelly bee is available as a buddy from the Jellyfish Clams.
