  • Neil Lumbard of DVDTalk praised the video and audio quality of the special, but criticized the video quality of the other episodes. "[They] appear to look barely, if even at all, better than standard definition DVD materials. The bitrates and encoding does no favors for the material and it's not really an impressive supplemental aspect as a result."[1]

  • This Blu-ray release was originally planned for release in the United States in 2012,[2] but it was initially canceled in the United States and only released in the United Kingdom on October 20, 2012, and in Canada on November 6, 2012. The Blu-ray was eventually released in the USA on October 15, 2013.[3]
  • This Blu-ray includes previews of other Nickelodeon DVDs. These include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DVD preview and The Legend of Korra DVD preview.
  • It comes with two discs. One disc is a Blu-ray that additionally contains all of the episodes and special features that are on the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD, and the second disc is the normal DVD copy of It's a SpongeBob Christmas! The Blu-ray disc also contains all of the episodes that were included on the Undersea Antics Volume 1 VHS tape, except for "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!"
  • This is the only SpongeBob Blu-ray to have episodes.
  • This is the only SpongeBob Blu-ray to use the Paramount logo from 1990 and Nickelodeon "Maze" bumper ID. They appear when you press either "Play All" or "Ripped Pants" from the "Bonus Episodes" section. This suggests that most of the episodes on the disc share the same master copy as Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD.
  • Some versions of this Blu-ray come with a digital copy code that allows you to redeem the digital "movie" version of this episode via iTunes. The digital version includes "Extreme Spots" and "Squirrel Record" as bonus episodes as well as few other bonus extras such as a sing-along and few behind the scenes featurettes.
