"Is There a Director in the House?" is a The Patrick Star Show episode from season 2. In this episode, while Squidina is away at camp, Patrick needs a new director.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

Patrick is doing his show as usual, with Squidina directing him from the other room. Suddenly, Bunny drags Squidina away, telling her that she works too hard and needs a break. She sends her to Camp Kid, as Patrick is left without a director. Slappy shows up and offers his help, only to turn Patrick's cooking sketch into an odd, horror-themed expressionist version. Slappy's camera closes in on Plankton, who claims he is a better director. However, Plankton simply wants to record footage of the Chum Bucket without Patrick being involved at all.

Rube greets Squidina at Camp Kid.

Squidina arrives at Camp Kid, where she finds the environment degrading and overly childish. Back at home, Patrick is pacing around his room when Bedroom Door reminds him that he has an emergency director button on his console. He presses it and Cecil comes in, deciding to do a show about father-son bonding. After gluing together a broken teapot, they play ball, but the glue leaves the ball stuck to Cecil's hands. During an attempt to toss it to Patrick, he throws so hard that his skin rips off. Patrick calls an emergency line, and GrandPat shows up in an ambulance, deciding to do a silent film.

Patrick interviews Sandy, who has dire news about an evaporation event on the location of the show. However, GrandPat does not let them talk, so Sandy is left to use pantomime and cue cards. The audience catches on, but it is too late, with the water draining. Sandy lets the water back in and GrandPat gives up on directing. At Camp Kid, Squidina takes a break from a paper chain activity and overhears The Patrick Show! playing on a TV from another room. She finds that Patrick has given his directing duties to Bubble Bass. Realizing she is needed, Squidina hops the camp's walls and heads back home.

Bubble Bass takes over The Patrick Show! and fires Patrick.

Bubble Bass's first decision as producer is to kick Patrick out, then fire everyone who was involved in making the show. Squidina arrives just in time for Bubble Bass to "fire" her, at which point she reveals that she is the executive producer and has more power over him. She calls in Mama Bass to take him home. Bunny reveals herself to be hiding in the cabinet, and Squidina tells her she is not fired. Patrick is hiding under the tablecloth, and Squidina is ready to get back to directing. She takes her place behind the console and closes Patrick's show, then orders a mudspresso from a kid she met back at camp.

  • The audience going "Uh-oh!" when Squidina tells Bubble Bass she is the executive producer is also heard in "The Commode Episode.

Cultural references[]

Errors[]

  • When Squidina calls for the second Viking to appear on stage, his design is erroneously switched up with Gordon's, who appeared on stage a few seconds prior.
  • On Sandy's first cue card, the text "Qn = V^2/R" can be seen. This is actually the formula for electric power, which is indicated with a P instead of a Qn.
