Incidental 42 (named Dave,[1] Frank,[2] Percy,[3] Isabelle,[4] Harold,[5] and Scooter[6]) is one of the most common background characters in the series. This character model first appears in the episode "Ripped Pants" and is a red-orange fish who usually wears a baby blue top.
Incidental 42 has had both female and male voices in the series, as well as both female and male names.
Description
Incidental 42 is a red-orange fish with beige fins and light olive-green lips who wears a baby blue top.
Family
Like all of the fish background characters, Incidental 42 has been paired with many different fish throughout the show.
In "Selling Out," a female-voiced Incidental 42 is paired with Peterson Nat Tucker. They eat together at Krabby O'Monday's.
In "Mermaid Man vs. SpongeBob," a male-voiced Incidental 42 is paired with Nancy Suzy Fish.
Names
In "Valentine's Day," Incidental 42 thanks SpongeBob for a present: a bouquet of flowers. SpongeBob says "You too, Dave."
In "Dying for Pie," SpongeBob shows Squidward to everyone in Bikini Bottom. The last person seen to be introduced was Incidental 42, who Squidward calls Frank. He says "Hey, Frank."
In "I Had an Accident," Incidental 42 is a football player whose name is Percy. Peterson Nat Tucker is the coach and says, "Nice catch, Percy!" Peterson then spanks Incidental 42 as a playful gesture, which scares SpongeBob. The pair are later seen next to each other in the seven-mile spanking machine.
In "Good Ol' Whatshisname," Incidental 42's name is revealed to be Isabelle when Squidward reads from the book of names.
In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, Incidental 42 eats a Krabby Patty in a hospital bed. Shubie says "Oh, Harold!" which reveals a fifth name.
In Nicktoons Freeze Frame Frenzy, Incidental 42's model is used for one of the fish that the player can take a photo of. In the photo album, the name is given as Scooter.
History
Incidental 42 debuts in "Ripped Pants" as a customer at the bar, paired with Peterson Nat Tucker. The two fish get angrily annoyed by SpongeBob ripping his pants right in front of them.
In "The Hot Shot," Incidental 42 is shown to be one of Mrs. Puff's students at Boating School.

- On YouTube, the first episode in the Bikini Bottom Mysteries series is about Incidental 42. It is about all of the changing names and/or identities that this fish has had throughout the episodes.
- In the game Nicktoons Freeze Frame Frenzy, Incidental 42's bloated model from "Just One Bite" appears. He is labeled as "Scooter" in the photo album.
- This character model has the most different names out of all the generic background characters.
- Incidental 42 whispering to Norma "This is a load of barnacles," in "Prehibernation Week" has become a popular meme.
