The imagination box is a cardboard box that first appears in the episode "Idiot Box." SpongeBob and Patrick use it so they can use their imagination.
Description[]
It is an ordinary-looking brown box, but can transmit sounds from SpongeBob and Patrick's imagination. In "Squidiot Box," the box is shown to be an outdated model: a "double corrugated 3600."
Role in series[]
"Idiot Box"[]
SpongeBob and Patrick use their imagination inside the box. Squidward tries it on a hatbox, but it doesn't work. At the end of the episode, Squidward's imagination works with the box. The box is then taken to the dump (due to it being left on the road) with Squidward inside. Then, Squidward gets launched out of it and the box lands back on him.
"Squidiot Box"[]
SpongeBob finds his old imagination box in the attic, but he cannot get it to work. He and Patrick take it to Imagination Box Repair, where they are informed that the "whimsy gasket" that lets the box run is broken, and they are not being produced anymore. Patrick throws the box at Squidward's door in frustration, and when Squidward comes out to yell at them, he falls into the box. With his fall, he fixes the broken whimsy gasket, sending him into an imaginary world.
Whatever Squidward imagines comes to life, as SpongeBob and Patrick speak to him from outside the box. Outside objects that enter also become real, as shown when SpongeBob slips in a piece of paper with DoodleBob on it. In the end, Squidward does not escape the box, but believes he has and continues imagining his normal life.
Role in video games[]
Battle for Bikini Bottom, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie video game, SpongeBob's Truth or Square, and Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated[]
In these games they are known as Teleport Boxes. The box is used as a teleportation source to transition from one part of a level to another rather than having to go all the way back manually however this can only be done as soon as both have been opened up.
SpongeBob Simulator[]
The box appears as the Imaginaaation Station where the player must do quests. After completing them, it will award the player stardust, as well as a roulette, which can unlock morphs, or get stardust for the morphs the player already owns, which can help upgrade their respective morph. They appear most zones, both having countdowns before being able to complete another quest.
Trivia[]
- Squidward mentions in this box that he wants to arm-wrestle with cowboys on the moon, although it never happens.
