Synopsis

Squidward is at home, about to watch House Fancy, a program showcasing fancy homes. As the host, Nicholas Withers introduces the episode's first guest, Squidward gets a phone call from Squilliam. He reveals that the guest is none other than himself.

Squidward watches in anger as Squilliam shows off the various features of his house, which is several stories high, and includes an elevator with a built-in hot tub, decorative toilets with golden toilet paper holders, a garden on the rooftop, as well as a 130-foot sculpture of Squilliam's unibrow that consists of gilded doorknobs.

In a fit of blind jealousy, Squidward calls Nicholas and tells him that he has a much fancier home than Squilliam. Squidward realizes what he has done and desperately tries to make his house fancier, but with no success. He spots SpongeBob outside his window, who admits he's been spying on Squidward for days.

He offers to help him, with disastrous results (one of them involving Squidward's toenail being ripped out from moving a sofa). Soon, Squidward hears the doorbell ring and assuming that it is Nicholas, he tells SpongeBob to clean up the mess with a vacuum while he heads to the other room to dress his wound. It turns out that it is Patrick, who needs to use Squidward's restroom.

House Fancy 026

Once Patrick leaves, Squidward's toilet crawls out of the bathroom and jumps into Squidward's arms, then immediately dies. SpongeBob ends up sucking up everything in the house, causing the vacuum to explode and destroy the house. However, when Nicholas Withers comes over and sees Squidward's destroyed house, he views it as a work of abstract art and proclaims that his house is even better than Squilliam's.

The ending of the episode leads to Squilliam crying since he has lost, and Squidward is happy with the help of SpongeBob.

Trivia

General

  • The font on the title card is Curlz MT instead of the regular SpongeBob font.
  • This episode aired in Germany on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, before it aired in the United States.[1]
  • This is the third episode (in chronological airing date) to feature Squilliam. The first was in "Band Geeks" and the second was in "Squilliam Returns."
  • Squilliam's phone rings twice while Nicholas Withers is talking. This action resembles the act of censorship on television.
  • The toenail scene became a popular meme.
  • This is the first season 6 in the production order. However, on the Complete Sixth Season and Season 6 Volume 1 DVDs, the episode "Spongicus" comes first instead.
  • This is the first appearance of Squilliam's tower.
  • This is the second episode where Squidward wins against Squilliam at the end. The first is "Band Geeks."
  • This episode premiered two years after Nick Picks Volume 4 was released, and five years before "Karen 2.0" and "InSPONGEiac" would premiere in Greece.
  • This episode's production code was 101a, so this made SpongeBob SquarePants the second longest-running Nickelodeon series, surpassing the former holder, Hey Arnold!, which consisted of 100 episodes.
  • The scene where SpongeBob destroys Squidward's toenail was cut in Indonesia because of a warning from the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission.
  • This episode premiered on Gerhard Narholz's 71st birthday.
  • Squidward and Patrick calling Nicholas Withers "Nick" ("one more minute, Nick" and "who's Nick?", respectively) make it possible that the name is short for the House Fancy host's first name.

Cultural references

  • The television show House Fancy is a parody of HGTV's House Hunters.
  • When Squidward starts watching House Fancy, the theme song is a parody of "Clean House."
  • Nicholas Withers' presumed nickname, Nick is a possible reference to the cable television channel of the same name that since 1999, airs and created SpongeBob.

Errors

  • Squidward sets his teacup down to answer the phone. When he is shocked to learn that Squilliam is on House Fancy, he suddenly has the cup in his hand and drops it on the floor.
  • After Squidward comments on Squilliam's house saying it exactly looks like his, there is a bump on the left side of it when the scene turns back to the house.
  • In the elevator, the right image of Squilliam does not have a unibrow.
    File:Vator.jpg

The image of Squilliam on the right side has no unibrow.

  • Squilliam displays his "rooftop garden," but his house is initially shown to have a tower instead of a flat roof.
  • Squidward says there is a stain on the rug, but it is actually on the wooden floor.
  • When Squidward says "SpongeBob, what was that noise?", his lip-syncing is incorrect.
  • When Squidward's couch is whole, the paint is all over it. However, when the couch is split in half, some of the paint disappears.
  • Moments after Squidward tells SpongeBob he's heading upstairs to treat his wound, he walks out of the bathroom instead.
  • When Squilliam gulps, the animation of him saying "Huh?!" is reused.
  • During the scene where SpongeBob and Squidward try to move a sofa, there is a "jump" in the animation between Squidward screaming and then saying "Okay, it's on my foot," both during the same shot.
  • There are no frames between Squidward asking "Why do you keep moving it?" and SpongeBob saying "Cause you keep saying 'ow'!", thus causing a "jump" in the animation.
  • After Squidward's house is destroyed by the vacuum, for a split second one can see nothing at the house, not even SpongeBob and Squidward before the House Fancy logo comes up. However, when Nicholas Withers and Squilliam get to Squidward's house, everything is back at the house again.
  • In the ending scene where Nicholas Withers visits Squidward's house, SpongeBob's house next door is missing.
