Barbara, once I stuck my beak through that door, my appetite flew South for the winter. I mean, I'm not kidding when I say this restaurant smelled like the rear-end of a goat.

— Gene Scallop, "The Krusty Sponge"
Character

Gene Scallop is a Bikini Bottom News food critic. He has a segment on the TV show called Bottom Feeding with Gene Scallop, which is right after Bob Preflumster and Barbara. He is also a movie critic for Reef Cinema. He first appears in the episode "The Krusty Sponge."

Description[]

He is a chubby, lavender fish with a velvet colored suit with a dark green bow-tie and round light blue glasses. He has black curly hair. He also has a black round mustache and a light yellow dress shirt.

Role in series[]

"The Krusty Sponge"[]

He gave a positive review on the Krusty Krab and praised SpongeBob for making such delicious Krabby Patties. His review inspires Mr. Krabs to make SpongeBob the theme of the restaurant. However, this proves to be a bad idea as it poisons his customers with expired patties which were not refrigerated.

Later on, Gene would appear as a thirteenth juror who, like the rest of the jury found Mr. Krabs guilty of all charges. He probably went to the restaurant later and got "spongefied."

Role in video games[]

SpongeBob vs. The Big One: Beach Party Cook-Off[]

Gene makes an appearance in the first episode of the game.

SpongeBob Moves In![]

Towards the beginning of the game, he appears more as a food critic, but as the game goes on he is revealed to also be a film critic, even having his own office at Reef Cinema. He does still act as a food critic, wishing only for more complex meals.
