Galveston is a city located in Texas in the United States that appears in the first spin-off movie Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie. In the movie, Sandy and SpongeBob go here to retrieve their friends and the people of Bikini Bottom from Sue Nahmee, the CEO of B.O.O.T.S. Marine Technology Lab, who has kidnapped the sea creatures to turn them into Sea Pals.

Etymology[]

Galveston is named after Bernardo de Gálvez, 1st Count of Gálvez (1746–1786). Combined with the suffix -ton, derived from the Old English suffix -tūn, which in turn is derived from the word tūn, that meant "town" in Old English. Tūn itself is inherited from the Proto-West Germanic *tūn, from Proto-Germanic *tūną, from Proto-Celtic *dūnom, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewh₂- (“to finish, come full circle”).

Location[]

It is 55 minutes south of Houston, and 3 hours east of the state capital Austin.

Role in movie[]

SpongeBob and Sandy take a ride on the wing of plane until they pass over Galveston, after which they jump down and glide towards the city. They reach the Gushing Falls Water Park, but the a tornado blows them away. Landing 626 miles away from Galveston, they start walking towards the city but are attacked by rattlesnakes. The Cheeks family helps defeat the snakes, and they continue their journey to Galveston in the family van. When they are just 8 miles away from Galveston, the police chase them on Interstate 45, leading Sandy and SpongeBob being shot from a cannon to escape, landing them in the water park.

Using a hamster wheel to generate energy, they, along with their rescued friends and other sea creatures, fly from Galveston and arrive in Bikini Bottom.
