The fish children are a group of background fish who appear throughout the first eight seasons. They first appear in "Valentine's Day."

They are all short, young fish of about the same height. Four of them are boys and two are girls. They each have a distinct color scheme:

  • Green boy with blue shorts and a red beanie hat
  • Light blue girl with blonde hair and a pink dress
  • Beige boy with blue shorts
  • Darker blue boy with orange shorts
  • Greenish-brown girl with a purple skirt
  • Gray boy with green shorts

The gray fish kid only appears briefly in "Valentine's Day," while the others have multiple appearances each.

Role in series

"Valentine's Day"

The green fish with a propeller beanie hat appears when Patrick first enters the Valentine's Day Carnival. When the heart man first appears, four of the fish children are cheering around him: the beige, darker blue, gray, and green fish. Later, Patrick takes a lollipop from the blue fish with blonde hair.

The World's Greatest Valentine

They had the same role as the episode.

"Neptune's Spatula"

The green fish with a beanie hat appears at the Fry Cook Museum. He runs away from King Neptune when he announces "This joke has gone far enough!"

"Squid's Day Off"

When Squidward rushes out of his house naked, the beige kid fish watches him. His mother, Norma Rechid, shields her son's eyes and yells at Squidward.

"Something Smells"

Five of the fish children are in line to cross the street when the female crossing guard smells SpongeBob and runs off. They cross the street on their own and are interrupted by the marching band.

"Bossy Boots"

The blonde girl appears, grown up as a teen, in the boat full of Pearl's friends. She also wears glasses during this appearance.

"Dying for Pie"

The green fish with a beanie hat is one of the townspeople that SpongeBob shows Squidward to. He throws a rock at Squidward's head.

"Patty Hype"

The beige kid fish is seen on Bikini Bottom News. He is cheering in a crowd of Pretty Patty customers. Later, when SpongeBob is being carried to the Krusty Krab, the green fish with a beanie hat briefly appears between Dale and Charlie.

"Prehibernation Week"

The beige, darker blue, and green fish are seen with Gale when Sandy addresses the townspeople about their search efforts.

Deep-Sea Tales

They were seen in The World's Greatest Valentine segment of the book, where they had the same role as in the episode.

"Mermaid Man vs. SpongeBob"

Five of the fish children appear as fans of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy at the Krusty Krab. The green fish with a beanie hat wears a Barnacle Boy mask.

"Hello Bikini Bottom!"

When Mr. Krabs gets SpongeBob and Squidward a gig at a kid's birthday party, the green fish with a beanie hat appears as one of the party guests. He is still wearing his mask from "Mermaid Man vs. SpongeBob."

Who's Hungry?

The beige fish is seen in the "Patty Hype" segment, and the green fish is seen in the "Dying for Pie" segment.
