Manliness points are collectible items that appear in the console versions of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie video game.

Description[]

They are collectible weights that vary in size and color. The bigger the weight, the more manliness points the player receives.

Manliness points come in five varieties:

  • Red manliness points are dumbbells with flat circular weights at the ends, and the weights have a "1" on them. They are worth one manliness point, and are the most common type.
  • Yellow manliness points are dumbbells with spherical weights at the ends, and the weights have a "2" on them. They are worth two manliness points, and are the second-most common type.
  • Green manliness points are dumbbells with pyramid-shaped weights at the ends, and the weights have two "5"s on them. They are worth five manliness points, and are the third-most common type.
  • Blue manliness points are dumbbells with cube-shaped weights at the ends, and the weights have two "10"s on them. They are worth ten manliness points, and are the fourth-most common type.
  • Pink manliness points are large pyramid-shaped weights with a small ring attached to the top, and the weights have four "50"s on them. They are worth fifty manliness points, and are the rarest type.

Manliness points are scattered throughout the various levels, most often in plain sight. They can also be obtained by smashing open boxes or defeating enemies. Manliness points are used to fill a meter, and when the meter is filled, the player earns an upgrade point, which they can use to upgrade one of SpongeBob or Patrick's abilities: their health, spin attack, and the three abilities they unlock in the game.

If the player smashes many boxes or defeats many enemies within a short period of time, they will earn a multi-smash bonus, and they will be awarded with extra manliness points while a phrase like "combo" appears under the manliness point meter.

The game has an anti-grinding mechanic to prevent players from performing a very manliness point-rewarding combo repeatedly. The longer the player stays in a level, the lower amount of manliness points they will receive from boxes, enemies, and combos, until all boxes, enemies, and combos will reward the player with one red manliness point in the earlier missions, eventually covering all missions after reaching 35500 points. This mechanic persists even if the player leaves the level and returns. The mechanic, however, does not affect manliness points that are naturally scattered throughout the levels.

Trivia[]

  • They are based on shiny objects from Battle for Bikini Bottom.
    • Unlike shiny objects, manliness points are not a currency used to spend; rather, they are used to fill a meter to earn a reward.
  • Without the anti-grinding mechanic in effect, jellyfish give the player the least amount of manliness points when defeated at five while the upgraded MERVs give the most amount at 200.
  • Pink manliness points are the only type not designed after dumbbells and the only type not found in the first level, "No Cheese!"
  • Enemies defeated in "Bubble Blowing Baby Hunt" give a much larger amount of manliness points compared to enemies in levels before and after it. This is because the level takes place in the Thug Tug.
