Proposal
I am proposing removing the large and obtrusive "add a photo to this gallery" button that appears by default at the bottom of all galleries. The problem with this is that it causes inexperienced and uninformed editors acting in good faith to add images to galleries which are poor quality, duplicate images, mess up the chronological order and / or do not follow the naming scheme. Of course, people could still add images to galleries by going into the source editor and typing in the file name, but this change should hopefully avert the vast majority of instances of incompetent newbies making counter-productive edits to galleries.
This can be done by making a small change in the source editor. Where it currently says the following at the start of galleries:
<gallery widths="180" position="center">
this change would mean the following at the start of the galleries instead:
<gallery widths="180" position="center" hideaddbutton="true">
For the sake of clarity, the following change would also be made to the galleries guidelines on ESB:Galleries:
Strict rules
- Galleries need to contain more than 30 images of the scenes from the actual episode (credits images are not counted)
- Galleries need to show the order of images as they appear to give an idea as to the episode's storyline
- All images of the same scene need to be removed
- All images need to be in chronological order
- All images in gallery must not contain extra graphics on them (i.e. logos, including Nickelodeon logo)
- All images must be screenshots, photos taken by camera are not acceptable
- All images need to be of the same resolution and contain no extra part of the image (i.e. extra space, such as a border)
- Either all images contain captions or none
- The first line of all galleries consisting solely of images from episodes must be the following:
<gallery widths="180" position="center" hideaddbutton="true">
- The first line of all galleries that do not solely consist of images from episodes must be the following:
<gallery widths="180" position="center">
- Image file names need to follow this name scheme:
- File:Help Wanted 001.jpg
- File:Help Wanted 002.jpg
This change would apply to both the galleries for the episodes themselves, but also for the galleries on character, object and location articles that are comprised solely of images from episodes. I believe that the button should remain on galleries for books etc., to encourage the addition of images to these articles where they are currently lacking.
The voting stage will conclude on Friday 27th November 2020 at 07:55 UTC. The gamer 987654321 (talk) 07:55, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

- Neutral - My thoughts are I never believe a gallery to be finished, improvements can always be made - that's what a wiki is. However, we're not protecting galleries so users can still add images via the editor. Mixed on this one. --Spongebob456 talk 09:11, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
