I believe that all of the words that are considered totally acceptable in [https://bsa.govt.nz/images/assets/Research/What-Not-to-Swear-Full-BSA2010.pdf this document] (skip to page 19 to see the table), users should be able to say on this wiki without consequence. Also note that damn and hell are not in the table, but they would obviously still be permitted. - AGenericContributor

Wiki
Open Proposal

The following is an ongoing proposal. Please feel free to voice your opinion, but be sure to follow the rules.

How proposals work
    Concerns stage
  1. Someone brings up a topic for a proposal.
  2. The community discusses that topic.
  3. Voting stage
  4. The proposal is brought to a vote, taking into account any changes discussed by the community.
  5. The community votes.

You can use any of the following prior to your comments to show your opinion.

{{Support}} • {{Neutral}} • {{Oppose}} • {{Change}} • {{Comment}} • {{Reply}} • {{Question}}
Neutral votes do not count in determining the outcome percentage.

Instructions

This is a page for creating and resolving concerns on the topic: "Profanity rules revision."

At the end of the page, there is a "Create New Concern" button, which you can use to voice your concerns or questions about the proposal. You can use the "Refresh This Discussion" button, which allows you to make sure that all changes have been saved.

After 7 days of discussion, the concerns stage will end. All points brought up during that phase will be taken into account and an administrator, assistant, or the proposal's creator can move the discussion to voting, modifying the original proposal with any changes discussed by the community.

You can also add your comments to existing concerns. On the other hand, if you have no concerns, then you just wait for the voting stage.

Have a happy discussion!

Proposal

I believe that all of the words that are considered totally acceptable in this document (skip to page 19 to see the table), users should be able to say on this wiki's chat without consequence. Concerns

Created concern: Children browse this website

We cannot allow additional profanity at ESB, as young children browse this website. — AMK152 (Wall • Contrib) 21:27, August 25, 2017 (UTC)

Your concern doesn't really hold up when you take into account the fact that 2 similar words are already permitted. And these words, if you actually looked at them, are fairly acceptable anyway, and over 50% of the people who took part in that survey thought it was totally acceptable in all scenarios. They would probably be seldom used in articles anyway. - AGenericContributor

The one about opposite of accelerando minus "ando" (figure that word yourself), it actually is quite offensive. Qwertyxp2000 II (talk | contribs) 22:13, August 25, 2017 (UTC)

Thing is, not one of those words are PG, no thank you. AustinD-3 (Message Me Here!) Mario123

Per AMK. As he said, this is a SpongeBob wikia and most likely children visit here for the facts. There should be no tolerance against these words and even Damn, and Hell are pretty bad words for children too see too. Therefore, I don't think allowing any more of these words should be allowed and those you do use them should face severe consequences.

Resolved concern: Too General

PreviewModifyComment

I feel like this is too general of a rule. While I am not one to believe that random words should be censored because random people said they are bad, I do realize that people, likely parents, would complain if they came across such "bad" language on the wiki. If this only applied to chat, then I would completely agree as there is no reason for at least the words that can be spoken on TV to not be in chat as everyone is supposed to be 13 years or older and anyone who is younger than that is a user at their own risk. We should not censor ourselves for people who are breaking the rules.  120d  Talk  Contribs  10:45, August 29, 2017 (UTC)

I have modified it to only include the chat room. - AGenericContributor
