Proposal

EmilyHReturns is proposing the following:

Okay, I'm going to be straightforward here: I'm tired of people constantly saying the letter "e" in chat without any context. Everytime I go, I can never seem to get a break from that letter spam! I don't remember chat being this repetitive in late 2018, showing that they've gone downhill. I don't care if it's just a joke; it happens too much without any context and is unnecessary and annoying seeing everyday. I think we should be allowed to warn and kick users for this offense and ban them if it persists. It stopped being funny a long time ago and now just goes to show how nobody takes the spam policy seriously. Speaking of that, there are some users who go as far as to spam that letter. Just....why?.... And there are other annoying times where it happens: When chat is going by so fast and topics are constantly changing, someone decides to start a letter spam chain or say "e" just to make the notification hell worse than ever. Oooorrrrrr, when you ask a user a question and switch tabs for a minute and think they responded based on the notification, only for it to turn out to be another user who wasn't even the question's target, saying, you guessed it, "e". All this disruption is ridiculous and needs to end now.

Sorry if I was blunt with my reasons, but I just wanted to get a rant off my chest because this is quite a serious issue.  EmilyHReturns (MCBE)  14:29, May 23, 2020 (UTC)

  • Oppose Oppose - Spamming is already not allowed in chat. I don't think this proposal would bring anything new to the table.  Anthony2306 (WCLE)  19:17, May 27, 2020 (UTC)
  • Comment new Comment - Okay... Then how come you as an admin don't take the spamming letters issue seriously. I know you're not on chat as often as I am, but you know how often users spam the letter "e" and how it annoys other users even if just done as a joke. Do you really not find this issue serious enough to do anything about? Because this nonsense annoys the hell out of me regardless of its intentions.  EmilyHReturns (MCBE)  01:31, May 28, 2020 (UTC)
    • Comment new Comment - No, I do agree that it should be taken seriously. Spamming "e" in chat is already a kick-worthy offense as it should be. If they complain about power abuse then that's their problem, not ours.  Anthony2306 (WCLE)  01:51, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

  • Oppose Oppose - Per Anthony; this is already against the rules.  Figmeister (WCE)  21:32, May 27, 2020 (UTC)

  • Comment new Comment - By saying that annoying letter EVERY DAY without it relating to the conversation and the user knowingly annoying others.  EmilyHReturns (MCBE)  01:31, May 28, 2020 (UTC)
  • Support Extremely Strong Support - Hear me out on this, but even though you guys say this is already against the policy, PEOPLE IGNORE THAT AND DO IT EVERY DAY EVEN WHEN I AND OTHERS SICK OF THAT NONSENSE HAVE TOLD THEM THAT. They never listen and know how disruptive it is even if done as a joke... That clearly implies that we need to take more drastic measures and prevent users from saying this random one-letter stuff and make it clear in the ESB:Chat policy that saying letters or symbols, especially and mainly when not related to the conversation, is disruptive and spam. And you wanna know something even MORE ridiculous? In addition to ignoring the fact that it's disruptive and a blatant policy violation, you can't kick users for this offense because they'll complain how you're abusing your powers when you're clearly just trying to prevent disruption. They clearly deserved the kick if they ignored your prior warning(s) about it...
But seriously though, I can't believe people would oppose this idea on account of "It's funny to use random characters in chat!" or "You're taking away out sense of humor." Not that these votes have come in yet, but I wouldn't be surprised.  EmilyHReturns (MCBE)  01:31, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

  • Oppose Oppose - Per Anthony, if it's an issue, which i know it is, mods and admins should be taking more action. ChickenkrispiesW C E Triforce  03:50, May 28, 2020 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose - Firstly, this is already in the rules. Secondly, if it wasn't, it would require a bylaws change. --The gamer 987654321 18:00, May 29, 2020 (UTC)
