This is a November 2011 revision of the rules. It is meant to serve as a better guidelines for dealing with different issues on the wiki. There will be a discussion to the revisions held to make it official.
The following is a list of general rules to follow.
No personal attacks - do not be rude, do not criticize people, do not discriminate etc. If this persists without reconciliation, violation of this rule will result in a 6 month block. A second offense will result in an infinite block.
No vandalism - do not vandalize, or in other words, do not make nonsense edits or remove good quality content from articles. Violation of this rule will result in an infinite block.
No spam - do not spam anywhere on the wiki. Violation of this rule will result in an infinite block.
No inappropriate content - keep it PG. Do not use profanity, do not add content that is inappropriate for younger readers/contributors. Violation of this rule will result in an infinite block.
No fanon - do not add your fan-made episodes or any other fan-made content. Fanon includes any SpongeBob SquarePants in-universe or merchandise-related content not officially released by Viacom via a press conference or the Nickelodeon TV channel, and information that can be derived from that. The SpongeBob Fanon Wiki was specifically created for such content. Violation of this rule will result in a 6 month block. A second offense will result in an infinite block.
No speculation - facts are facts and nothing else matters. Speculation involves assuming something that has no basis. Only add content that is true. Violation of this rule will result in a 6 month block. A second offense will result in an infinite block.
Do adding logic to humor - never add logic to humor (i.e. How can fire be under water?)
Do not ask for tools - never ask for the sysop or bureaucrat tools directly. Ask here and make sure you qualify.
No sock-puppetry - do not create multiple accounts. You are allowed only one (1) account. If you are caught using more than one (1) account you can be blocked for up to 6 months up to forever. A bot account is the only exception. If you created an account and for some reason do not use that account anymore or cannot get into that account, be sure to make it known. You must identify yourself as the owner of the accounts on the account user pages and your main account. Violation of this rule will result in a 6 month block. A second offense will result in an infinite block.
Use Third Person - do not use the words "We and I." This creates confusion between users and the articles, so do not add them.
No irrelevant content - do not add articles that have nothing to do with SpongeBob SquarePants. This includes adding other Nickelodeon-related content that does not pertain to SpongeBob, as well as anything that is not specifically unique to the SpongeBob universe. The only relevant content allowed is anything that SpongeBob SquarePants in-universe or merchandise-related content that was officially released by Viacom via a press conference or the Nickelodeon TV channel, and information that can be derived from that.
Forums are for the Wiki - when using the forums the topic presented must be something relevant to the topic of the Wiki. A special forum is set aside to discuss the show.
Ignore all rules - all rules (not personal attack related) can be ignored if they impede with the progress of the Wiki.
The purpose of this wiki is to build up a knowledge base of SpongeBob-related content. It's not our problem what religion, sexual preference, or whatever else you are, You are exactly like everyone else as an editor and a user. Discrimination is strongly forbidden and there is no such thing as a minor offense, you will be blocked forever for discrimination of any form. Also, we strongly advise that you not mention your religion, sexual preference, or anything else. A minor biography is all that is needed, however we will never stop you unless we feel that a problem will arise from comments made.
You do not own your userpage. It is given to you to help people know you better, if we feel something isn't appropriate, it will be removed. You also cannot forbid anyone from leaving you a message on your talk page.
Abstain from posting personal information. This is the internet, and everyone can see what you post. If you are under the age of 13 you should not reveal your age or any other personal information. The administration can remove personal information if we feel it is too much.
We're not Myspace or Facebook. Do not treat this as a place to make friends. This is a place to edit and be productive. You are allowed to make friends, and it is encouraged to help improve productivity and prevent disputes, however, extended conversations must be held outside the wiki. The forum is reserved for occasional discussion involving the wiki, although discussion of the series we are building a knowledge base of is allowed.
No user groups. This includes the creation of clubs, teams, or cabals as they can cause major friction and a form of competition. You are allowed to create teams as long as they focus on improving the Wiki like the anti-vandal team at Wikipedia. This does not grant you any extra powers or privilege. In addition you may hold competitions only if they are to encourage improving the wiki, such as a competition to see who can make the most notable and good articles, with the prize being that you have helped the wiki improve. Barnstars are allowed and encouraged to recognize hard working contributors.
If you violate any of the above rules, depending on the extremity of the offense, if it is minor, if will be correct and you will be warned. Continued violation may result in a block of several months, and with extreme violations, such as personal attacks, vandalism, and spam, an infinite block will be placed on your account. If you feel that you were blocked unfairly, you may request an appeal.
