Instructions

This is a page for creating and resolving concerns on the topic: "Give this wikia a major cleaning."

At the end of the page, there is a "Create New Concern" button, which you can use to voice your concerns or questions about the proposal. You can use the "Refresh This Discussion" button, which allows you to make sure that all changes have been saved.

After 7 days of discussion, the concerns stage will end. All points brought up during that phase will be taken into account and an administrator, assistant, or the proposal's creator can move the discussion to voting, modifying the original proposal with any changes discussed by the community.

You can also add your comments to existing concerns. On the other hand, if you have no concerns, then you just wait for the voting stage.

Have a happy discussion!

Proposal

I know I should make individual proposals for these subjects, but there are just so many that I have to fit them all into one proposal, otherwise space would be taken up if I made individual proposals. Anyway, because this is such a high-traffic wikia and so many posts/comments are added all in one day, I think ESB is in need of a lot of removal/replacement of features. I don't think it should have an affect on anything or anyone, as I there are other wikias that don't have such features. For starters, I think chat/Discord/Skype/any social connection services attached to ESB should be removed to prevent trolling/the high-traffic clogging of the wikia. Second, I think comments sections should be replaced with Talk pages and should only be used to discuss how to improve the page rather than expressing opinions. Again, this will be as a way to prevent the trolling/high-traffic nature of the wikia, and although they're easy to vandalize the admins would obviously be able to take care of it. I also think Forums should be removed for the same reasons I mentioned: high-traffic and trolling.

Third, I think the infobox tabs that display a character's different appearances throughout the series should be removed as they take up space and the images were the character's design is significantly different could easily be added somewhere near the Appearance section. Speaking of which, those should be removed as well because I think people can easily figure out what a character or object looks like just by looking at the infobox. Likewise, I think most of the sections in infoboxes should be removed except for voiced by, first appearance, birthday, species, and age, as the rest is unimportant and takes up space.

Another thing is category clutter: so many unimportant categories like Characters, Characters by gender, and Bikini Bottimites take up the important ones. Speaking of which, the only character categories I find important enough are the Deceased characters category and those that specify the spieces of the character. The rest can go, especially the One appearance ones since literally every single show inevitably has one-time characters. Besides, if we're against episode category clutter, then the same should apply for characters.

Badges should also be removed because most people abuse the edit system for the sake of badge farming and its all just a competition freak thing.

Bottom line, I would appreciate if ESB was given a major cleanup. TheInternetRuinedMyLife (talk) 13:23, July 20, 2017 (UTC)

I am DEAD SORRY. BUT we can't do what you want. In this wiki, we are not wikipedia, this is from FANDOM, a network for FANS. We have done our BEST to prevent trolls from such features of communicating! And no, I don't agree with everything else. Tilde GreekFlagWaving150Nickmick (MCEB) X5GlDuq

1. Skype isn't that high-traffic. Trolls can easily be kicked out, and to be honest, there hasn't been a troll in a while.

2. We've had proposals about disabling comments. They've failed.

3. Forums can be removed, but they would be replaced by Discussions. This won't really stop any trolling, as discussions are just a more complex version of the forum system.

4. This idea is alright, I agree with it.

5. I also agree with this one.

6. Like disabling comments, disabling badges has been the topic of proposals before, and they failed.

These changes are way to drastic. First of all, while this is a wiki and a knowledge base, it is also a fansite, so there are discussions on the series as well as socializing amongst community members.

  • 1. Chat and Skype are used for socializing, but Skype is also a means of quick communication among people in regards to wiki matters.
  • 2. If there are problems with trolls, people can apply to be promoted to combat those issues.
  • 3. Talk pages are outdated and comments have been discussed several times before.
  • 4. The appearances tab is there so people can easily get to that page.
  • 5. I may agree with regards to character designs. Perhaps that could be a separate tab, but I don't know.
  • 6. Perhaps we could have character infobox cleanup, although we have had such discussions before, and such changes should be made in a separate proposal.
  • 7. How is "Characters" an unimportant category? It is one of the key categories for which all character-related pages are connected.
  • 8. Characters by gender, I agree with you, but we discussed this before. See the last discussion for details and links to previous discussions.
  • 10. I agree about badges, but that is a discussion that has been going on and off for years.

Also, any proposal involving many drastic changes, especially controversial ones, will never pass. It's better to be specific and talk about each issue individually. Otherwise, anything that may pass will get ignored. If you want serious cleanup done, it's better to make 15 specific proposal rather than 1 general proposal. The general proposal will definitely fail, but a few specific proposals may actually pass. — AMK152 (Wall • Contrib) 18:15, July 22, 2017 (UTC)
