Result: Community favors changing the process, but still needs more discussion.

Introduction

There has been a number of issues with chat moderators, some who have been promoted very quickly, and then later removed as chat moderators. It has been great that we have gone this far without a chat moderator request process, but is it time? Or should we just impose minimum requirements? There are a few options I have listed below.

Proposal

Here are the options:

  • Option A - keep the chat moderator appointment process as it is now, allowing administrators to appoint chat moderators as they see fit.
  • Option B - impose minimum requirements for chat moderators (we would need a follow up discussion), but still allow administrators to appoint chat moderators if they meet those requirements.
  • Option C - impose minimum requirements for chat moderators and require everyone who wishes to be a chat moderator to go through an application process, just like administrators.

No matter what happens, all current chat moderators will remain chat moderators, as long as they follow the rules.

This discussion will end on Friday, July 11, 2014 at midnight, eastern time. AMK152 (Wall • Contrib) 03:33, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

Discussion

Option A

  • Keep the chat moderator appointment process as it is now, allowing administrators to appoint chat moderators as they see fit.

Support Support - I support C, mixed with A. Keep the requirements as they are, but let Chat Moderator requests be a thing. Adventuretimesbiggestfan2000 (talk) 03:36, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

Support Strong Support - i Pick A Cause Adding Requirements isn't going to help anything Tominator777 (talk) 03:39, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

Neutral Neutral - - Yeah, I wouldn't mind this although the process still isn't particularly smooth. --Spongebob456 talk 06:14, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

Neutral Neutral - Meh. This one isn't bad but I think it's fair that some requirements are set. ZeoSpark  Talk  Contribs  Edits  14:27,7/4/2014

Neutral Neutral - I think some requirements should apply. Tan Ham ManSpongebob dancing gif 16:55,7/6/2014

Option B

  • Impose minimum requirements for chat moderators (we would need a follow up discussion), but still allow administrators to appoint chat moderators if they meet those requirements.

Support Strong Support - I stronly support Option B. Pretzel 📪 🔎

Support Support - B, maybe C.  03:35,7/4/2014 Oie 1416180TW0S7lYbMuchacha (WC)OVERTIME?!!!Rock-a-Bye Bivalve 71

Support Support - B or C  Nicko756 (MCE) Sign!Dp  03:38, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

Support Strong Support - - Yes, completely agree with this one. A formal application process is a bit excessive, but I do feel we need a way of defining who would make a great chat mod. --Spongebob456 talk 06:14, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

Support Support - Not too bad. ZeoSpark  Talk  Contribs  Edits  14:27,7/4/2014

Option C

  • Impose minimum requirements for chat moderators and require everyone who wishes to be a chat moderator to go through an application process, just like administrators.

Support Support - - per my above comment. If this makes the selection process more valid, then I'm all for it! :) --Spongebob456 talk 06:14, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

Support Strong Support - This is a great plan. ZeoSpark  Talk  Contribs  Edits  14:27,7/4/2014

Support Strong Support - Yes, I like it. Tan Ham ManSpongebob dancing gif 16:55,7/6/2014

Oppose Weak Oppose - I mean, this would be quite a hassle just for a Chat Mod. appointment. But, I am not vehemently against this. Pretzel 📪 🔎

Support Support - this might help too Tominator777 (talk) 20:04, July 6, 2014 (UTC)

Support Support - Yes, this sounds good having people apply to be a chat mod sounds much better then having users just begging the admins to make them a chat mod. Road Runner1 (talk) 06:23, July 7, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, this may sounds crazy, but how about this: We demote all Chat Mods, and then reappoint those who we deam fit. This will help us clean up some of the drama mess, and then we can have a straighter path to move foward. I still support option B, but I think that we need to have a freash start with the chat mods. • That is an idea. That would mess up the user rights log a bit, but it is worth a try. It is worth pointing out that AMK said no one is getting demoted unless they break any rules. :) --Spongebob456 talk 06:14, July 4, 2014 (UTC)
  • I agree with this. ZeoSpark  Talk  Contribs  Edits  14:27,7/4/2014
  • No, that sounds like an awful idea, the mods who don't use their powers should be demoted, so we can have a "straighter" path. Road Runner1 (talk) 06:19, July 7, 2014 (UTC)
