1033Forest brought this up in January, but I think we needed a more centered discussion around it.
Writing in January 1033Forest said:
I know a lot of you readers will be worried of what I am saying. But no worries because this will help this encyclopedia.
Some people might remember the times I tried to advise people to request crat. I was advising because this wiki is incomplete with only 2 in office.
I found out this was done before. I kinda thought something like this would be illegal in this encyclopedia kingdom. It was kinda mentioned in my posts advising some of the Encyclopedia administrators to run a bureaucrat campaign. Some people said that this wiki had so much drama, fighting, and wreckage in some earlier years. This was my first time reading the history page for this encyclopedia and my only way to find out. It said the admin requirements were lifted so the encyclopedia could see more growth and patrol. I've always wanted to ask for this to happen but I thought it was illegal. So now I am asking for it.
I think his idea of that past encyclopedia proposal should be done again. Like it was back then, the Encyclopedia decreased and is decreasing so much.
A good idea that Mr. AMK152 said was how the 2nd movie might make the encyclopedia more active. That's kinda gonna happen this year with the 3rd movie, 20th anniversary, 12th season, Encyclopedia's 12th Birthday, and all kinds of things. I think we should increase the admin count so the encyclopedia will be in good hands if a huge increase comes by.
I kinda think that we shouldn't lock out all good Encyclopedia people who may make this world as a village of fans a better place. I think opening up the admin requirements for maybe half a year or something to boost up things might be kinda good and swell.
The old proposal also said how some users got admin so shortly after joining. I think we should give out a rare opportunity again. The safeguard being that some sort of percentage of support coming from the current encyclopedia leaders. Plain and simple but we won't let any bad guys get admin because they can't get through our barrier of ballots and votes, right???
Consider all things AMK152 said. What I said again. Thx and bye.
I will highlight that this was a good point brought up, and we did do this before when I brought it up here in October 2014. Now, the proposal then was quite extreme--it did remove all administrator requirements and relied on the community to make a good decision. I will note that the systems in place we have has resulted in the community making many good decisions as far as promotions. We had issues with certain promotions years ago, but we have dealt them them better and better as time goes by. I do like the idea, but I would not go to the extreme. Here are the pros and cons about this, which I actually took from my original proposal from October 2014:
1. Opens up the door for good contributors to be administrators. Having the tools is in of itself an incentive to contribute more.
2. Makes ESB look less restrictive. We need more freedom here.
3. Build our administration beyond 8 administrators. We keep dropping.
4. Prepare for the wave of activity that is likely to come when the 3rd film is released next year.
5. Excellent contributors with a far less amount of edits can have the chance to be an administrator.
1. Possible, and I say possible flood of requests. We might have a lot of unsuccessful requests, but at least we will know that there are good potential administrators out there that have a chance. If 15 people make a request and only 1 person becomes an administrator, that is better for the wiki than not having all 15 of them make a request. Between April 5, 2010 and August 7, 2010, in that four month period, we had 39 people request to be an administrator. Shroomish7, IKnowAll, GojiBob, and General5 7 were the only successful ones. This means that there were 35 unsuccessful requests. However, the wiki gained 4 excellent administrators.
What this all boils down to: does this person help the wiki and do we trust this person with administrator tools?
We can trust that the community will oppose any user they feel should not be an administrator, while supporting any users, despite a lack of edits, they may feel deserves to be an administrator. Besides, only those who are assistants would be eligible to be administrators.
