Guideline
This page documents an Encyclopedia SpongeBobia guideline. This is an accepted standard that editors must follow for purposes of improving the quality of content on the wiki.

Grouping characters
Grouping by similarity
- Main - maid most of the appearances during the show.
- Background - maid a lot of appearances during the show, but aren't significantly important.
- Families - characters' families.
- Special - maid for specific stories during the show.
- Other - maid small apperences during the show.
Grouping by amount biographical information
- Primary - the most biographical information of all characters
- Secondary - less biographical information than primary characters, but more than tertiary characters
- Tertiary - they barely have any biographical information
Guideline
Primary characters

1. Create page Template:ChList/<name of the character> with only this on it:

|hide = <!-- hidden part of short biography -->

2. Import it to the list of characters by using this: {{ChList/<name of the character>}}

Secondary characters

- Note: Using ChList is same as for "Primary characters"
1. Create page Template:ChList/<name of the character> with only this on it:

|image = <!-- picture of the character; file name only -->
|desc = <!-- visible part of short biography -->
|hide = <!-- hidden part of short biography -->

2. Import it to the list of characters by using this: {{ChList/<name of the character>}}

Use following templates:
Tertiary characters
ChList
1. Create page Template:ChList/<name of the character> with only this on it:
{{ChList
|name = <!-- name of the character without square brackets -->
|image = <!-- picture of the character; file name only -->
|desc = <!-- short biography -->
|hide = <!-- all other content of the article* -->
}}
- *Fill it with all text from the actual character article, but modify the text to make it fit the list better. Also, if the article contains Template:Character, just ignore it.
2. Import it to the list of characters by using this: {{ChList/<name of the character>}}
Article
- 1. After importing the character to the list, go to the "List of characters", search "Table of contents" for a section with the character name, and click on it
- 2. Link should change to something like this below. Copy the bolded part:
- http://spongebob.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_characters/Background#Angry_Jack
- 3. Replace content of the character article with this:
#REDIRECT [[paste what you copied here]]
- 4. Remove all categories from the article, except Category:Characters. Add it by using this code:
<noinclude>[[Category:Characters]]</noinclude>
- 5. Protect the article: "Administrators only"
Notes
- All characters, except those on the "Main" tab, should be centered alphabetically.
- Once ChList templates are absolutely perfect they should be protected, so that only administrators can change them.
