The dumpster is a waste container that is usually featured behind the Krusty Krab. It first appears in the episode "Graveyard Shift."

The dumpster is normally light gray, yellowish-brown, with brown rust markings and green goo stains, and filled with garbage bags like a dumpster usually is. It is normally located behind the Krusty Krab.

In "Sailor Mouth," the dumpster is featured with graffiti on it.

Role in series

"Graveyard Shift"

SpongeBob takes out the trash in fear of the dark, giving Squidward the idea to tell him about the "hash-slinging slasher."

"Sailor Mouth"

SpongeBob goes out with the trash around closing time to throw it in the dumpster. He then looks at the dumpster writing, looking at the words, then he finds the following words: "Krabs is a [dolphin chirp]," learning the nature of profanity.

"Missing Identity"

SpongeBob and Patrick go search for SpongeBob's name tag. Patrick attempts to help SpongeBob dig up the garbage to find it before Patrick eventually notices SpongeBob was wearing his shirt on backward.

"Wishing You Well"

SpongeBob builds the Eugene Krabs Memorial Wishing Well near the dumpster.

"The Battle of Bikini Bottom"

Patrick throws the dumpster at SpongeBob during the clean vs. dirty war.

"The Splinter"

Patrick attempts to treat SpongeBob's splinter, so when things do not work, Patrick puts garbage on SpongeBob's splintered thumb, which makes it worse, as it swells up and produces pus.

"The Other Patty"

SpongeBob puts a trash bag in the dumpster, but Plankton pops out of the bag with a Krabby Patty. He runs off, but the Krabby Patty explodes. Mr. Krabs explains that all Krabby Patties explode within five feet of the Krusty Krab.

"Squirrel Record"

SpongeBob goes out to dump the trash in the dumpster. While he throws away the trash, he finds a book and remarks about how they should not be thrown away. Then a slimy trash monster emerges from the dumpster. SpongeBob throws the book at the monster, only revealing them to be Sandy.

"Little Yellow Book"

SpongeBob delivers an order to the dumpster and states that Squidward must have received a prank call. He leaves the order on top of the dumpster. Patrick pops out and finds a ketchup packet inside the bag and says that it will go great on an old diaper that he found.

"Stuck on the Roof"

SpongeBob takes construction supplies from the dumpster to build a makeshift kitchen on the Krusty Krab roof.

"Krabby Patty Creature Feature"

SpongeBob hides in the dumpster from the Krabby Patty creatures. Perch Perkins walks past, delivering a news report. When mutated Squidward grabs him, he quickly tells SpongeBob that Plankton was never affected by the creatures, and SpongeBob bolts out of the dumpster and heads to the Chum Bucket.

"Cuddle E. Hugs"

SpongeBob stands by the dumpster when he first meets Cuddle E. Hugs.

  • "Graveyard Shift" is the only episode not to have the dumpster in the back of the Krusty Krab.
  • In "Missing Identity," the dumpster is much bigger than it normally looks in most episodes.
  • Dumpsters can be found throughout Bikini Bottom. Most are located in back alleys.
  • Sometimes in the DVD closed-captions, the "D" in the word, "dumpster" is capitalized. This is because "Dumpster" is a trademarked word like, "Frisbee" and "Popsicle."[1]

"Patchy was here"

  • The graffiti on the dumpster in "Sailor Mouth" is as follows:
    • "Up with bubbles, down with air"
    • "Patchy was here" (reference to Patchy the Pirate)
    • "Dogfish ♥s Catfish" (reference to the rivalry between real-life dogs and cats)
    • "Starfish rool" (reference to Patrick)
    • "Nematodes are people, too"
    • "Squidward smells GOOD" (the last word added by SpongeBob, who assumed that the writing was unfinished)
    • "Krabs is a [dolphin chirp]"
