Painty the Pirate, also referred to as Captain, is a painting of a pirate head with his parrot which appears at the beginning of, and sings the SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song. His mouth is actually real, so he could talk. The real lips in the painting are the lips of Stephen Hillenburg, the show's creator. He also makes appearances in "Your Shoe's Untied" and "Wet Painters" (although in the latter he only appears as an inanimate painting). He has a patch over his left eye, a skull-and-crossbones hat, and of course the parrot on his left shoulder. He is voiced by Patrick Pinney in most appearances, but in Truth or Square, in the "rejected" theme songs (Squidward Tentacles, Patrick Seastar, and Eugene Krabs versions, all posed by Patchy the Pirate), he is voiced by Bob Joles. On the ride SpongeBob 4D formally at Kings Dominion, was previously at Six Flags: Great Adventure, but now in Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey. Painty would come out of the screen to "drag" the viewers underwater. Unfortunately, this scared many children who had to leave the ride.
- In Truth or Square?, the original painting of Painty is replaced by a talking fortune teller-like dummy, voiced by Cee-Lo Green.
