Boatmobiles are boat-shaped cars which are the main mode of transport for Bikini Bottomites. They first appear in the episode "Reef Blower" and play major roles in many episodes, often associated with Mrs. Puff and her boating school.

SpongeBob dreams of obtaining his license to drive a boatmobile one day, but whenever he gets behind the wheel of a boat, he tenses up and crashes. Boatmobiles have appeared in a variety of SpongeBob SquarePants merchandise, from toy cars to video games such as SpongeBob's Boating Bash.

They commonly are white with a red stripe and a thin black stripe in the middle. Most boatmobiles are two-seater, open-top convertibles, and show generic traits to 1960s cars, such as vintage-styled interiors and a distinctive, rough engine noise.

For "Reef Blower," the base boatmobile was created for the scene where SpongeBob speeds past an intersection, causing the incoming boats to brake violently. This base model came to be known as:

  • Boat 1[1]
    • Boat car 1[2], the common red variant
    • Boat car 2[2], a green variant
    • A Blue version debuting in "Doing Time"
  • By the time of "Hall Monitor," several other boats were created for the traffic monitor scene. As of at least 2018[1], these are the main boats used within the main model pack:
  • Boat 2[1], A small two stack boat with white and blue coloring and no side windows
  • Boat 3[1], An enclosed boat with two stacks, and similar coloring to Boat 1
  • Boat 4[1], A yellow boat with a sleek appearance and two front wheels attached to skis.
  • Boat 5[1], A wood bodied (typically)white boat with a round wheelhouse and red-lined stack
  • Boat 6[1], Another wood bodied white boat. This one has it's wheelhouse more centered in the hull, and has a purple-lined stack
  • Boat 7[1], A white boat with a considerably more metal hull construction. It has red seating and a red topped motor.
  • Boat 8[1], Which is similar to a less detailed Boat 1. Its has no doors and red seating.
  • Boat 9[1][3], Very similar to Boat 7, differing in the fact that this boat has square front windows and side portholes, alongside a tall stack. The portholes and stack were originally blue in Hall Monitor, but has shifted towards a combo red/blue stack around the time of season 7.
  • Boat 10[1], A riveted, light and dark gray boat similar to a submarine.
  • Boat 11[1], A boat with a red and white hull, and wooden decking. It also possesses similar windows to Boat 9 and a fat and stout red-lined stack
  • Boat 12[1], A similar boat to 1 and 8. It has a blue hull and seating, and a squarish windshield.
