To be honest, I didn't watch the Superbowl live because I had a hunch they wouldn't go through with it (and I'm not really into sports).
Sure, it's cool that there was newly animated footage of the characters in their Band Geeks outfits, but there should have been more especially with all the teasing that's been going on the past months. They basically baited millions of fans who wanted to see a genuine and heartwarming tribute of Stephen Hillenburg into watching something completely different. They did play the full song...AFTER the big game while the stadium was empty, which only rubs more salt in the wound. Though to be fair, maybe there were time constraints with the other performers.
This was a bigger let down than Waluigi not being playable in Smash Ultimate. This wasn't just a bunch of people petitioning for a glorified meme, but asking to relive their childhood in a way that honors the man who created it. Again, I can see they had good intentions by SpongeBob appearing at all, but at the same time it feels like they trolled fans going through a rough time just for a quick buck.
This is honestly the best way anybody has described it
I found a video where they played the full song at a hockey game the next day after the super bowl.

Here's a Twitter post from someone who worked on the super bowl SpongeBob short. Even they thought the song would be played during the game. But it was ultimately the NFL's decision and....they made a big whoopsie.
It was probably due to time constraints that the song was cut, but the way it went down gives off the terrible and unfortunate implication of trolling the fans by exploiting the death of their idol for ratings.
At least my soul can rest now knowing the NHL fixed this sin.

You seriously need to stop with that. “undeserving of being called human?” What the hell is wrong with you?
Please, please tell me, how is he garbage? Is there any reason other than “hIs PeRfOrMaNcE oF sIcKo MoDe WaS aWfUl?” Yes, I agree that his performance was quite mediocre. He didn’t sound anything close to his actual recordings. But, you can not judge an artist based on a live performance. Performances are very different from the actual song. For example, different voices are used, different volumes, verses may be cut out, etc. (all three of those happened yesterday). That doesn’t excuse the fact that he sounded bad, but that also doesn’t show his sum up his entire discography. “he is a waste of time and air” lol, okay bud. “And not worth YOU getting upset over it” Excuse me? Since when did YOU dictate whether or not I get upset over something? I get upset over whatever I want to get upset over, and when someone goes this far about someone for literally no reason other than his halftime performance, yeah, I don’t take it lightly. Travis never did anything to you, so stop treating him like he’s worthless.
I've heard comparisons online and by my friends that "Travis Scott is our Freddy Mercury" and "Sicko Mode is this generation's Bohemian Rhapsody". Except that Mercury can sing, and Rhapsody is a song with a message, moral and explores ground-breaking territory (not to mention it's a 4 in 1 song; also side note, if you haven't seen the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, I strongly recommend you see it, it's amazing!)
Now the reason I'm pissed off. The entire game in and of itself was a sham (seriously, who could have ever guessed that the Pats would win, AGAIN, certainly not anyone with a brain). The halftime show let down many SpongeBob fans. "We should be happy they gave us a few seconds of SpongeBob and unique animation!" Or we could appreciate how well they screwed us over because everything was leading to they hype of Sweet Victory (which spoiler alert, didn't play). Instead it was ruined by a rapper that I consider to be subpar, and certainly not the "creative genius who needs no introduction" as was the script forcibly written by people who had no intention of actually honoring Stephen Hillenburg.
Oh, and Travis Scott isn't worthless. Just the "music" that he "produces" is worthless. Just another "rapper" people idolize for no reason.
so, let me get this straight, scott is at fault because you don't like him?
No Scott isn't at fault because I don't like him. I think what he produces is absolutely wonderful and will in the end unite all of humanity. He's only partially at fault (with Maroon 5) because the NFL decided they would replace Sweet Victory with him (to which I'm sure there were some objections on his part, but he ultimately decided it would be best if he took over the performance, and pushed Sweet Victory out of the way)
I don't really have much to say, but I will address a few points made.
The workers at the NFL are the only people who had a say in it. Travis does not work for the NFL. He had 0% to do with the actual coordination of the halftime show. Putting any of the blame on Travis for that is like a school giving a detention to a kid who walked by a bullying incident instead of the bully themselves.
Almost every rapper has someone else who produces their music or the beat for the song. Being a rapper and being a producer are two different professions in the music industry. It doesn't make sense to call him out for that.
For the mumble rapper part, I'll just copy what I said in the comments of Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show short:
"I also don't understand how you could call Travis a mumble rapper. Personally, I despise that term, since there's no way it can be used in an objective way. The term is clearly used to degrade younger artists. If you're saying that Travis puts little emphasis on his lyricism and literally mumbles his lyrics, then you clearly have not listened to enough of his music. If you're going to make that type of statement, then you can't come at it with not enough knowledge. Yes, there are times that Travis does literally mumble, but that's for the purpose of the song, or the purpose of establishing a setting or persona in his music. Music is not something you can just take a little peek at and understand the full image. You need to think deeply about it or it won't make sense. If you call Travis, or most of the other rappers who are considered to be mumble rappers "mumble rappers," then you are too ignorant to be talking about them."
The rap genre is a very distinct and unique brand of music. It's very different from most other music, yet it incorporates many other styles. Also, I don't think you used the right word there. You said "status," but it really hasn't affected any of the profits or popularity of music itself. I'm pretty sure you meant to say "quality," since yeah, it's definitely affected the overall quality to most people.
I don't think many people would argue with you on that. Myself included.
Well not really the NFL workers, more the executives at the NFL that decided to butcher what could have been awesome. Profit margins more than quality is likely their case.
What I mean by "mumble rapping" is when an artist is hard to understand and doesn't take the time to pronounce words correctly (or at least 75%) and they use a lot of filler like "yeah" and "oh" and other words that can describe actions relating to drugs or women or other wonderful acts of kindness
The over quantifiable supply of "rap artists" is interesting. So many people are trying to become a new breakout artist (especially with SoundCloud) and some people I know produce amazing raps and others produce synthetic, oversaturated sounds of "rap". I will take computer-generated rap that sounds bad over country any day though, and I don't think almost anyone would argue that fact.
I think that most music now is about quantity from the artists, not quality. (It has been like this for pretty much all time, but seems more prevalent now). Travis Scott isn't a bad dude, most people aren't (unless you're the now British 21 Savage which I find freakin' hilarious). He just doesn't put a lot of soul or effort into his music, imo. At least he isn't 6ix9ine…
Honestly could've been better if Maroon 5 didn't go off-key multiple times.
There was Nothing good about this Super Bowl, just Odious
