Video game

Battle for Bikini Bottom is a SpongeBob SquarePants video game, released on the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance and PC, released on October 21, 2003. The player controls SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy to save Bikini Bottom from the robot army accidentally created by Plankton.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game, released one year after this game, shares the same developer, many gameplay elements with it, and is sometimes considered a spiritual successor.

On June 5, 2019, Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, a full remake of the game was announced by THQ Nordic.[1] It is scheduled for release in 2020.

Cast

Plot

All versions of the game share the same basic plot, albeit some minor differences:

Inside the Chum Bucket, Plankton comes up with another plan to steal the Krabby Patty formula from the Krusty Krab. He builds a machine called the Duplicatotron 3000 and uses it to create an army of robots, which he plans to use to destroy the Krusty Krab and succeed in his long-time goal. Although the plan goes smoothly at first, the robots start to rebel against Plankton when he gave them their first order, and soon after, Plankton realizes his fatal error. He forgot to set the "Obey Plankton" switch to "Obey." As a result, the robots lock Plankton out of the Chum Bucket and start to go on a rampage to destroy Bikini Bottom.

Meanwhile, in SpongeBob's house, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star play with their toy robots and racehorses to pass the time. When SpongeBob asks Patrick if playing with real robots would be better, Patrick answers by showing SpongeBob his Magic Wishing Shell. Patrick explains to SpongeBob that if he puts the toy robots in the shell, says the magic words and shakes it, the next morning he will be rewarded with real robots to play with. SpongeBob follows up with Patrick's suggestion and proceeds to make his wish. By the next morning, SpongeBob wakes up to find his entire house trashed. He finds out on the news that Bikini Bottom is under attack by an army of robots. Believing that the rampage is his own fault due to his "wish," SpongeBob sets out to clean up his mess and help out his friends (including Plankton who wants to get back into the Chum Bucket) to save Bikini Bottom. However, what SpongeBob doesn't know is that Plankton is the one behind the whole mess.

Playable characters

Only SpongeBob SquarePants can take the taxi to Bikini Bottom.

Character moves

All characters

  • Jump/Double Jump: Characters can jump by pressing the jump button and double jump to jump again in mid-air.

SpongeBob

  • Bubble Spin: Spins while waving his bubble wand. This can hit enemies and objects in any direction.
  • Bubble Bash: Launches upwards with a bubble Viking helmet towards mid-air robots or tikis.
  • Bubble Bounce: Grows bubble feet and slams on top of enemies or tikis underneath.
  • Bubble Bowl: SpongeBob blows a bubble and throws it forward in the fashion of a bowling ball. The longer the player holds the button, the faster it will be. Unlocked after beating Robo-Sandy.
  • Cruise Bubble: SpongeBob launches a controllable bubble torpedo that destroys any robot(s) or tiki(s) that come in contact with it, including stone tikis. Unlocked after beating Robo-Patrick.
  • SpongeBall: The only power-up based move, SpongeBob transforms into a ball and can do nothing but roll around, but is much faster. Press the jump button to return to normal SpongeBob.
  • Sneak: SpongeBob SquarePants can sneak around by moving slowly, sneaking past the Sleepy-Time robot enemy and crossing fragile platforms.

Patrick

  • Belly attack: Patrick throws out his belly, hitting robots and tikis directly in front of him with it.
  • Throw: Can pick up a Throw Fruit (watermelon), Freezy Fruit (actually a chunk of ice), tiki, or robot and throw it. In order to throw a robot, he needs to stun it with the body slam move.
  • Body slam: While in the air, Patrick can plummet directly downward to destroy things beneath him, sending out a small shock wave.

Sandy

  • Karate: Does a chop while on the ground and a kick while in the air.
  • Lasso: Can use it to tie up and destroy a far-away robot or tiki.
  • Glide: After doing a double jump, Sandy can use her lasso as a helicopter to reach farther distances.
  • Texas Trailer Hitches: Can swing on mid-air, Texas-shaped hooks with her lasso to go even farther distances than with the glide.

Items

  • Shiny objects: These are used as currency in the game, taking their design from a flower. The player can carry up to 99,999 shiny objects.
  • Golden Spatula: Golden spatulas are used to unlock new areas in the game. Their use is similar to the Power Star from "Super Mario 64".
  • Underwear: These restore one health point (for any missing pairs of underwear caused by taking damage).
  • Golden underwear: This permanently increases the player's maximum health by one point. There are three of them in the entire game, all within the Bikini Bottom hub.
  • SpongeBall: This power-up turns SpongeBob into a SpongeBall. Only SpongeBob himself can use this item.
  • SpongeBob's sundae: This power-up was completely cut from the game. The player can use a hex editor to replace the underwear powerup with the sundae. It allows the player to run faster and destroy stone tikis with any attack.[2]
  • Patrick's socks: If the player returns ten of these socks to Patrick the player will receive a golden spatula. There are 80 of them in the entire game.
  • Steering wheels: These are only found in Downtown Bikini Bottom. If the player returns all 11 to Mrs. Puff, they will obtain a golden spatula.
  • Artwork: These are only found in Rock Bottom. If the player returns all six to Mrs. Puff, the player will receive a golden spatula.
  • Energy crystals: These are only found in the Kelp Cave section of Kelp Forest. If the player returns all of them to Barnacle Boy, they will receive a golden spatula.

Tikis

Main article: List of tikis
  • Wood tiki: A wooden tiki with chattering teeth. These tikis are the most common and the easiest to break.
  • Floating tiki: A blue tiki. Unlike the other tikis, these ones float in the air. They can usually be broken with SpongeBob's Bubble Bash or Patrick's throw. They can also be used as platforms.
  • Shhh tiki: A tiki with big ears that disappears when approached. SpongeBob must sneak toward it to break it. Additionally, the Bubble Bowl can be used to break it without approaching it.
  • Thunder tiki: An angry-looking tiki that thunders when touched, which explodes after a few seconds. Destroying it from a distance is viable, as attacking it will also make it explode. They can also be used to destroy other tikis nearby, including stone tikis.
  • Stone tiki: A stoic looking tiki made from solid rock. They can only be destroyed by thunder tiki explosions or SpongeBob's Cruise Bubble.

Levels

  • Bikini Bottom - This is the hub world. Here, the player can access all the other levels. SpongeBob can complete minor tasks, such as annoying Squidward, clearing Sandy's treedome, and clearing the Krusty Krab. The robots also stole Patrick's socks (all of which are scattered throughout the other levels), and SpongeBob can get a golden spatula for every ten he returns to Patrick in the hub world. The Krusty Krab has also been "abandoned," and Mr. Krabs needs shiny objects to restore the restaurant. He's agreed to give the player golden spatulas, but only if the player can find enough shiny objects. The price increases every time a new golden spatula is available.
    • On Top of the Pineapple - A Golden Spatula is revealed at the top of SpongeBob's pineapple home when both the button between Patrick's and Squidward's house is pushed and the button between Squidward's and SpongeBob's house is pushed. Patience and some moving platforms will eventually bring the player to the top of SpongeBob's pineapple.
    • On Top of Shady Shoals - Standing on the pressure plate by the Police Station will open the way to a button, which the player must use the player's Bubble Bowl attack to press. This will reveal a springboard, taking the player to the top of the Police Station. Then, floating blocks will appear leading the player from the top of the Police Station to the top of Shady Shoals, allowing the player to collect a Golden Spatula.
    • On Top of the Chum Bucket - To the right of the "Chum Bucket" logo on the Chum Bucket there are three buttons lined up vertically that the player can hit with the Cruise Bubble. Hitting all three reveals a springboard which takes the player to the top of the Chum Bucket, allowing the player to collect a Golden Spatula. However, the buttons will depress after some time.
    • SpongeBob's Closet - The first Golden Spatula in the game; found by collecting 50 Shiny Objects and opening SpongeBob's closet.
    • Annoy Squidward - Going inside Squidward's home and going through the dialogue will activate this task. After the player has done this, the player will need to jump around. The number of jumps required is inconsistent, but it is around 10. Breaking objects around his house can be done, but does not add to the total. He will then pay the player with a Golden Spatula to leave him alone.
    • Ambush at the Tree Dome - Going inside Sandy's tree dome will activate this task. The player will need to not quit the level and destroy all of the robots, including Duplicatotrons. Once the player has done this, Sandy will reward the player.
    • Infestation at the Krusty Krab - Outside of the Krusty Krab, Mr. Krabs is standing. He will not trade the player any Golden Spatulas for Shiny Objects until the player does this task. Inside the Krusty Krab, the player will need to destroy all of the robots, including Duplicatotrons. Once the player has accomplished this, Mr. Krabs will reward the player outside, thus reactivating trades.
    • A Wall Jump in the Bucket - Inside of the Chum Bucket, there is a vent pipe in one of the corners. Climbing onto this and treating it as a wall jump will reward the player with a Golden Spatula.
  • Jellyfish Fields - The first single level. Squidward has been attacked by robots and jellyfish, and SpongeBob needs to go to the top of Spork Mountain to find a jar of "King Jellyfish" jelly for him to use as a coolant for his wounds. The trouble is, the King Jellyfish has to be defeated before the player can get the jelly. SpongeBob also needs to save Patrick, who traverses a cave, and get a spatula back for Mrs. Puff, etc. Of the first area of Bikini Bottom, this level does not require any Golden Spatulas.
    • Top of the Hill - Get to the top of the mountain in Jellyfish Rock.
    • Cowa-Bungee! - Encounter Gary and use the Bungee Hook to collect the spatula at the bottom of the waterfall in Jellyfish Rock.
    • Spelunking - Get to the end of Jellyfish Caves as Patrick.
    • Patrick's Dilemma - Defeat all the robots to save Patrick.
    • Navigate the Canyons and Mesas - Get to the end of Jellyfish Lake.
    • Drain the Lake - Destroy the lake fountains by throwing the stunned Ham-Mers at them.
    • Slide Leap - Jump to the golden spatula at the end of the slide in Spork Mountain.
    • Defeat King Jellyfish - Defeat King Jellyfish and give the King Jellyfish Jelly to Squidward.
  • Downtown Bikini Bottom - Robots are wreaking havoc here, and SpongeBob needs to defeat them. He also needs to find steering wheels, smash some tikis at The Sea Needle, find an antenna for Larry (as Sandy), and other tasks. The player needs 5 golden spatulas to enter.
    • End of the Road - Collect all 11 steering wheels to retrieve to Mrs. Puff.
    • Learn Sandy's Moves - Use the lasso to fly as Sandy to get to a building with the Golden Spatula near it in the downtown streets.
    • Tikis Go Boom - Lure the cannon to fire the sinks toward the Thunder Tikis. This will allow you to press the buttons on the bottom of the tikis, destroying the cannon. The spatula will appear on top of the statue.
    • Across the Rooftops - Get to across the rooftops as Sandy and replace Larry's antenna in the downtown rooftops.
    • Swingin' Sandy - Follow the yellow arrows to lead you to the correct path.
    • Ambush in the Lighthouse - Defeat all robots and destroy every Duplicatotron in the lighthouse.
    • Extreme Bungee - Destroy all the tikis in the Sea Needle by bungee jumping out the windows, then return to Mr. Krabs.
    • Come back with the Cruise Bubble - Come back to the Sea Needle once you have the Cruise Bubble attack. If you use it, you can see a button that you have to press to reveal platforms on the other side.
  • Goo Lagoon - A robot has stolen all the sunscreen, and the only way SpongeBob can get it back is to reflect the heat onto the robot to get revenge. While going to the last reflecting tower, SpongeBob has to do other tasks like going through a cave, helping Mr. Krabs in a carnival (as Patrick), etc. The player needs 10 golden spatulas to enter.
    • King of the Castle - Get to the top of the sand castle in Goo Lagoon Beach.
    • Connect the towers - Connect all the towers by pressing the buttons on them. Then, find a way to get over to the tower near the Ham-Mer. To complete this faster, SpongeBob can destroy the Ham-Mer by using the Cruise Bubble technique and ignore the towers altogether. It matters not how the Ham-Mer is destroyed, SpongeBob will still be awarded the Spatula.
      • To get to the tower, the player must go through the caves.
    • Save the Children - Save all 5 children by popping their balloons with the Bubble Bash, then return to Mrs. Puff.
    • Over the Moat - Follow the path onto the side of the top of the castle as Patrick.

    • Rumble at the Poseidome - Defeat Robo-Sandy using SpongeBob and Patrick.
  • Rock Bottom - Mrs. Puff says that robots have ransacked the Rock Bottom Museum, and SpongeBob must clear it and find the few missing artworks in the process while traversing Rock Bottom. The player needs 25 golden spatulas to enter this level.
    • Get to the Museum - Get to the entrance of the Rock Bottom Museum in Downtown Rock Bottom.
    • Slip Sliding Away - Get the spatula at the end of the slide before time runs out in Downtown Rock Bottom.

    • Super Bounce - Use the trampolines to get the spatula on top of Squidward's house in SpongeBob's dream.
    • Here You Go - Just walk up to Patrick in his dream. (No Task)
    • Screaming for Ice Cream (unused)[3]
  • Chum Bucket Lab - This is the final and most secret of the levels. Here, Plankton's scheme is revealed, and SpongeBob must finish his mission. But first, he must battle a robot manifestation of himself and robot Plankton. He also needs to enter the robot's head and blow some fuses to jam the electrical system and defeat the robot, but Plankton's robot may be harder to defeat. The player needs 75 golden spatulas to enter. The player is given no checkpoints when inside Robo-SpongeBob, so if the player is defeated, the player has to restart the area.
    • Kah - Rah - Tae! - Inside the lab, the player is greeted with a robot version of SpongeBob using tactics to endeavor defeating the player. After every 3 cycles, a robot Plankton will be blasting lasers at the player, only vulnerable to hits during his pause of shooting. Once the player has hit the robot Plankton, Robo-SpongeBob will awake and add in a new move to the cycle.
    • The Small Shall Rule... Or Not - Robo-SpongeBob has had enough and powers down. This upsets robot Plankton, who activates a growth in Robo-SpongeBob and gives him muscular arms, which forces SpongeBob to go and hit his vulnerability from the inside.

Robots

  • Fodder - The most common robot found throughout the game and the easiest to defeat. These robots will come after the player and attack with their electric wands. They are worth 5 points.
  • Ham-Mer - A robot taking the pun of the word "hammer" literally, using a hammer made of ham as its choice of weapon. These robots attack the player with a vicious slam attack. They can be often notorious for also knocking players off the edge into the abyss. They first appear in Jellyfish Fields and are worth 25 points.
  • Tar-Tar - A robot that attacks by blasting the player with three shots of hot tartar sauce. These robots take a little more effort to defeat with normal attacks due to their high stamina but an explosion or strong attack such as the Bubble Bowl can take them out in one blow. Due to their weight, Patrick can't pick up Tar-tars. They first appear in Jellyfish Fields and are worth 30 points.
  • Chomp-Bot - A robot that will chase after the player and try to bite them with their metallic jaws. They are also equipped with toxic gas which they can breath out for extra measure. They are worth 10 points.
  • G-Love - A frisbee-shaped robot that attacks by spinning in an attempt to whack the player with their arms. Normal attacks are rendered useless while it's spinning so only air-based and the Bubble Bounce attack can defeat them. They first appear in Downtown Bikini Bottom and are worth 40 points.
  • Chuck - These are probably the most dangerous robots in the game. They will attack the player by throwing a water missile and their aim is very accurate. Getting around them can be tricky, especially when crossing gaps as the player must get them to throw the missile out of the player's path. Patrick can stun these bots if the player is directly underneath them. They first appear in Downtown Bikini Bottom (in the rooftops area) and are worth 50 points.
  • Monsoon - A robot that hovers around and attacks by creating storm clouds with their remote that can zap lightning on the player. Only air-based attacks like the Bubble Bash can reach them as they hover high above the ground. Like Chuck, Patrick can stun these bots if the player is directly underneath them. They first appear in Goo Lagoon and are worth 60 points.
  • Bomb-Bot - A small robot that will set off its fuse and chase after the player; it explodes after a few seconds and can hurt the player if they get caught in the blast radius. It's easy to destroy a Bomb-bot before it self-destructs; doing so will earn the player 15 points. If a Bomb-bot detonates on its own, the player receives nothing. Their behaviour is similar to the Bob-omb from the Super Mario series.
  • Sleepy-Time - A sleeping robot that wakes up when the player gets near and blasts lasers at the player until the target can get out of their range. Only SpongeBob is quiet enough to sneak near Sleepy-Times undetected so if the player is playing as Patrick or Sandy, the best strategy to defeat them with distant attacks. The Bubble Bowl is also useless against them because they can deflect the attack away with their force field. The Cruise Bubble can also be used to destroy them. Pat can't stun them since their detector extends beyond his ground-pound. They first appear in Rock Bottom and are worth 70 points.
  • Arf - A cowboy robot that spawns Arf Dawgs from his doghouse. He takes a lot more effort to defeat and attacks the player with his doghouse whenever they get too close to him. A quick way to deal with an Arf is to knock his own Arf Dawgs into him, or by using the Bubble Bowl. However, Arfs can also be defeated in one blow with a strong attack such as the Cruise Bubble. They first appear in the Mermalair and are worth 80 points.
  • Arf Dawg - A dog-like robot spawned from an Arf's doghouse. These robots seek the player out and explode after a few seconds. Their behavior is similar to a Bob-omb from the Super Mario series (a trait shared with the Bomb-Bot). The player does not receive Shiny Objects from these robots but the player can use them to attack the Arf.
  • BZZT-bot - A robot that will continuously zap the player with a gamma-ray laser out of their eye until the player either defeats them or backs away. It can be responsible for draining the player's health very quickly and leaving the player vulnerable to other robots. It can hover over anything. If the player waits about thirty seconds, it'll shoot spiral fireworks and spin around. The fireworks don't hurt. They are worth 20 points.
  • Tubelet - Tubelets are small robots that are always found in groups of three and attack with flame jets from their tubes. All three must be destroyed to permanently defeat them; otherwise, they will respawn and counterattack with an explosion. They first appear in the Kelp Forest and are worth 90 points upon their defeat.
  • Slick - A robot that attacks by shooting globs of oil at the player. The blobs will affect the player's traction on the surface if the player gets hit and even if the glob hits the ground, it will leave behind a puddle of oil that must be avoided. These robots are protected by a shield of oil that must be taken out with distant attacks but the shield can re-spawn after a few seconds. A powerful attack such as the Cruise Bubble is most effective for defeating them. They first appear in the Flying Dutchman's Graveyard and are worth 100 points.
  • Duplicatotron 1000 - They serve as robot spawners and will continue spawning robots in the area until they are destroyed. Be careful though, the Duplicatotrons meet an explosive end once their stamina is drained, so back out once the player has dealt with them. They are worth 50 points.

Bosses

King Jellyfish from "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic" is the first non-robot boss in the game. He seems to be able to shoot a powerful shock wave and it seems that, despite being male, he's the one who lays the rest of the jellyfish. Going under his body will damage the player. The player hits him after he does his shock wave attack.

Robo-Sandy is the first robot boss in the game. Her main attacks include a karate chop (which only happens if she gets too close), a large jump (which for some reason stuns itself), and a clothesline move (this is when she runs to the edge and springs herself across the arena with her hands and feet against the edge and attached to her main body by springs - the move can be avoided by jumping over or through the springs). the player uses Bubble Bounce, throws her head at a broken scoreboard (Phase 2), and uses Bubble Bash on her head to defeat her (Phase 3).

Prawn is a blue evil shrimp and the second non-robot boss in the game. He also is shown to be armed with a specially designed French horn, and is Mermaid Man's archenemy because he turned all his socks pink. During his second and third phases, Prawn will spawn Ham-Mers which can be dangerous due to their ability to knock the player off. The player has to use Bubble Bowl on him when the Disco Floor is silver and while avoiding the robots (It will burst on a yellow or red floor).

Robo-Patrick is the second robot boss in the game. His main attacks include spitting moves, freeze breath, ice cream slams, and a spinning move that releases industrial waste around him and leaves the robot vulnerable by making him dizzy.

The Flying Dutchman needs SpongeBob's help to get the robots off his ship so Sandy can fight him. He is the third and final non-robot boss in the game. He is the only boss who SpongeBob does not fight at all, only Sandy can fight him.

Robo-SpongeBob is the third robot boss in the game. His main attacks include a large arm swing that freezes him, karate slams (that flip the platform the player is on), and a three-part sweeping attack in which it shouts "KAH-RAH-TAE!" and the sound waves will knock the player unconscious. According to Robo-Plankton, they were supposed to be married, despite their masculine sexes.

Robo-Plankton is the final robot (and overall) boss of the game. His main attack is a sonic blast. According to himself, the robots have always been obeying Plankton through the entire game.

In the movie theater, the player can see that a Robo-Squidward was originally planned to be in the game, possibly as a secret boss. This was scrapped before the game's release. But in the Game Boy Advance version, a Robo-Squidward is present, and his attacks include slamming his tentacles down onto the ground and blowing out musical notes that will stun anyone who gets hit. Robo-Squidward could possibly be located in his dream. This also opens up the possibility that Squidward was originally going to be a playable character.

Game Boy Advance Version

The gameplay in the GBA version is 2D platforming similar to the likes of Super Mario but with a puzzler twist.

Reception

The game received generally positive reviews and won numerous awards like the Kids Choice Award for Favorite Video Game. Official PlayStation Magazine gave the game 4.5 out of 5. The game sold well enough to claim Greatest Hits on PS2, Player's Choice on GameCube and Platinum Hits on Xbox. Despite its relative obscurity nowadays, BFBB and the The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie video game have amassed a decently sized cult following over the years. On June 5, 2019 THQ Nordic announced that a remake titled Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is in production. It will be developed by Purple Lamp Studios and aims to not only remake the game for modern platforms, but to also restore much of the content that was cut by the original developer, Heavy Iron Studios.

4. Welcome

Welcome to my FAQ for SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle of Bikini Bottom (or SBSP: BOBB for short). Since this is an action/adventure game, there is no walkthrough per se. Instead, this FAQ is broken up into parts. First you will be given an explanation of choices you have for playing the game. Next, you will be given all the possible commands you can give with a brief description of what those commands are. The last part is dedicated to strategy. This strategy will give you an idea on how to fulfill the requirements for getting the various items or doing the various tasks required to complete each area. Input is appreciated along with constructive criticism. If you wish to e-mail me thoughts on this FAQ, better ways of doing things, other strategies, etc., feel free. Make sure you put SBSP: BOBB in the subject. If you don't, I'm liable to discard the e-mail as spam.

5. Overview

"Are you ready kids?". With this sentence, we begin yet another episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. SpongeBob returns to us after a group of evil robots decide to turn Bikini Bottom and the surrounding areas into their own personal playground. It is up to SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy to help set things right again. The usual cast of characters returns to give advice, criticism, or insults to the above three characters. Mr. Krabs is still obsessed with money, Squidward is his usual dourfaced self, Plankton (who caused this mess) is as remorseless as usual. Of course, we can't forget about Gary who helps the characters by giving them sound advice. A new character also enters the lineup. Bubble Buddy also offers some solid advice and provides helpful items to SpongeBob. Mindless fun and entertainment are the name of this game as the Battle of Bikini Bottom heats up.

Unit II

6. The Areas

SBSP: BOBB will require you to go through nine areas under the sea. You may have to revisit areas in order to complete certain taskings or to get the all the Gold Spatulas or Socks. The strategies for completing these areas are in Chapter 10. Each area, in itself, also requires certain things to be accomplished before you can unlock the way into other areas. The areas are (in alphabetical order) listed below:

Bikini Bottom (Where you start at), Poseidome, and Industrial Park Chum Bucket Lab Downtown Bikini Bottom Flying Dutchman's Graveyard Goo Lagoon Jellyfish Fields Kelp Forest Mermalair Rock Bottom Sand Mountain SpongeBob's Dream

9. General Strategies

These are general strategies to make your journey through the different areas more enjoyable (or tolerable at least). These also can be used when you don't want to look at the specific strategies and want to solve things on your own. Again, these are not all-encompassing and I know there are other general strategies to use. These are, though, the best I have found to work for me.

  • Use your SAVE liberally. Especially every time you do something important like get a letter tile, complete a checkbox, or find a new area. Nothing is more frustrating then playing a couple of hours on a game only to have the power go out and you having to start over.
  • Learn to use the controls with proficiency. I know, this sounds so basic but you would be surprised at how many people complain about not being able to do certain things because they don't know how to use the controls. There are quite a few tight areas, narrow ledges, killer jumps, etc. that the chosen character will be required to perform. If you don't know how to use your controls, then you better be prepared for either a long game or quitting due to frustration.
  • When you are jumping, use this trick. Sometimes you will have to jump on very small ledges or very thin surfaces. Use your shadow for guidance. If the chosen character's shadow is over the area you want to land, then it is safe to land. You must also take into account if what you are jumping onto a moving object.
  • Make sure you constantly refer back to your "To Do List". It will give you an idea of what you need to do or where to go to get the Golden Spatula. Keep in mind, you may not be able to complete an area until you go to another area and do certain things. This means you may end up running between a couple of areas so that you can complete them.
  • Never get just the minimum required for a level. What I mean by this is if an area requires you to get 10 spatulas or 100 shiney objects, take everything you can out of that area above and beyond what is expected. This will pay untold dividends down the road when you need to get through an area quicker.
  • Some areas have more than one part. What I mean by this is that you may have to scale cliffs or go through caves to get through those other parts. You will notice this when you must get a Gold Spatula but the area you are in doesn't contain the features required for said spatula. This is also true of tasks that can span many subareas within the main area.
  • Learn to use the camera controls. Nothing is more frustrating then trying to do a specific task and the camera angle only adds to the difficulty. If the camera refuses to rotate in one direction, go the other direction to ensure that you have the best possible angle to accomplish your task. There are a few mini-games and boss battles, though, that you aren't allowed to use the camera on.
  • Keep in mind that when you are carrying objects, you cannot jump. You must toss the object onto the next level and retrieve it. This means you need to plan your moves carefully, especially if the object has a short life (i.e. watermelons). There are areas that you can bounce with an object but that is all you can do.
  • Of course, when all else fails, consult the specific strategy section to get yourself out of a bind.

10. Specific Strategies

When I was making this section, I had to decide on the best way to present the material in an easy to read, logical format. After some thinking on this, I decided to present it according to the way the areas came off of Bikini Bottom. There is no right or wrong way to go through these different areas and the order is really unimportant. You may not, however, be able to fully complete each area unless you do specific things in another area. The Chum Bucket will usually be the last area to complete since it requires the most Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to get into. This doesn't mean that you will need to complete all areas for the requisite number of Gold Spatulas.

There are nine major areas within the game and xx subareas within these main areas. Some of the subareas require you to do certain tasks before you can get into them. I will break down the areas and subareas as you get to them in the game. In addition, I will list the areas by the cost in Gold Spatulas.

Bikini Bottom is where you will start your adventure at. Bikini Bottom is broken up into three areas. You gain access to the other areas by going through the Poseidome and Industrial Area.

It is from Bikini Bottom that one can access all the other main areas in the game. From Bikini Bottom, you can access Downtown Bikini Bottom, Jellyfish Fields, and the Goo Lagoon. From Poseidome you can access Rock Bottom, Mermalair, and Sand Mountain. From the Industrial Park you can access Kelp Forest, SpongeBob's Dream, the Flying Dutchman's Graveyard, and Chum Bucket Lab. You must have the required number of Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to access these areas.

To accomplish two of the areas, one must have shiny objects for Mr. Krabs or socks for Patrick. The socks locations will also be stated within the walkthrough itself.

So, in review, this is how I will set up each area:

_________________

/ NAME MAIN AREA /_____________________________________________________________

Gold Spatula Locations: (the numbers will be used to annotate which Golden

Spatula you will recover in the walkthrough. These
are in the order they appear in the Pause Game list)

Socks: (socks in area) Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: (to access the major area in

   question)

Brief outline of the level and anything special that you need to be aware of.

| NAME OF SUB AREA | (if any)

Gold Spatula Locations: (the numbers will be used to annotate which Golden Spatula you will recover in the walkthrough. These are in the order they appear in the Pause Game list) Socks: (socks in area) Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: (to access the major area in

   question)

Brief outline of the level and anything special that you need to be aware of.

At the end of each area, I will give the total spatulas and socks you should have.

10.1 Bikini Bottom, Poseidome, Industrial Park

Gold Spatula Locations: 4. SpongeBob's Closet

Socks: 1

Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: None, it's where you start at

  • You start off the adventure in SpongeBob's house. Basically wander around and collect all the shiny objects so you can access all the rooms within his house. There are signs with question marks on them that give you more details on playing the game. Once you have accessed all the rooms, it's time to collect a sock and a Gold Spatula.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Pay the required number of shiny objects and enter the attic. Look to the right and you will see a switch up high. Jump into the switch to release the beach ball.
  • Continue around the right and go under the big structure. Jump up and hit that switch to make a trampoline appear to the left. It will be straight in from the door.
  • Turn and face the door. Look to the left and up and you will see a switch. You can do this one of two ways. Either use the beach ball for elevation to hit the switch or jump on the doorway, jump left, and activate the switch. Either way, you will see platforms extend from the bookcases.
  • A timer with 25 seconds will be activated. The goal is to get to the highest platform before time expires. Run to the trampoline and double jump to the left or right platform. Continue to follow the platforms up and a sock will be your reward.

_______________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #4 ***
  • This one is real easy. The closet is a straight walk from the attic door.

_______________________________________________________________________________

10.1.1 First Part of Bikini Bottom

Gold Spatula Locations: 1. On Top of the Pineapple

5. Annoy Squidward

Socks: 3

Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: 1 Gold Spatula

  • When you exit SpongeBob's house, Plankton will be there to chat with him. Basically Plankton needs some help to get these robots under control. Of course, SpongeBob volunteers to help.
  • Turn right and go in between SpongeBob's and Squidward's houses. You will see a switch held up by balloons. Go to behind Squidward's house and to the left to see a switch with two Wooden Tikis on it.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #1 ***
  • Break the Tikis over the switch. Go over to the floating switch and jump up to activate it. A timer with 40 seconds will start and two platforms will appear between SpongeBob's and Squidward's homes.
  • Go over to the switch and belly flop to activate it. Another platform will appear between Squidward's and Patrick's homes. Jump on Patrick's house then jump to the platform. Ride it over to Squidward's. Work your way around Squidward's house on the ledges.
  • Jump on the two platforms to get to the Pineapple. You now own another spatula.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • To get the golden underwear, activate the platform between Squidward's and Patrick's houses again. Go all the way to the top of Squidward's home to retrieve them.

_______________________________________________________________________________

*** SOCK #1 AND GOLD SPATULA #5 ***
  • The best way to annoy Squidward is to jump around him and break things up. Eventually he will get made and tell you to stop. He will also hand you the Gold Spatula.
  • Wreck everything in Squidward's house. Either by destroying the moose over the fireplace or by defacing his picture, will cause a sock to appear in the window.

_______________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #2 ***
  • This one sits right by Patrick and is the easiest one to get.

_______________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #3 ***
  • Enter Patrick's rock. Destroy his couch and a sock is your reward.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • From the First Part of Bikini Bottom, you can access the following areas:

Downtown Bikini Bottom: 5 Gold Spatulas Jellyfish Fields : Free Goo Lagoon : 10 Gold Spatulas Poseidome : 15 Gold Spatulas

10.1.2 Poseidome

Gold Spatula Locations: 1. Rumble at the Poseidome

Socks: None

Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: 15 Gold Spatulas

  • In order to enter the Second Part of Bikini Bottom, you must take on the Sandy Robot in the Poseidome. You will be doing this with a SpongeBob and Patrick tag team.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #1 ***
  • You will start out as SpongeBob. The Sandy Robot has to be hit nine times before it is defeated. The tag team consists of SpongeBob and Patrick alternating every three hits.
  • SpongeBob will enter the ring to tangle with the Sandy Robot. The Sandy Robot will attempt to do an elbow slam on SpongeBob. If that fails, it will try to do a body slam. When the robot is on the mat, have SpongeBob do a jump attack. After three successful hits, Patrick takes over.
  • Sandy adds another move to its arsenal. After the elbow drop, it will go into the ropes and shoot forward will extending its legs the full length of the ring. Patrick must jump over to avoid getting hit. When the robot does the body slam, have Patrick jump up and belly flop the robot. The robot's head will come off.
  • Have Patrick retrieve the head and toss it into the scoreboard that fell down in between the changeover from SpongeBob to Patrick. Do this three times to bring SpongeBob back into the ring.
  • When SpongeBob returns, the robot modifies its leg drag by adding an arm drag. That means SpongeBob will have to jump in between the extended legs and arms. Again, hit the robot when it body slams. The Sandy Robot will hold its head in front of it. Have SpongeBob jump straight up to hit it. After three hits, the Sandy Robot is history.
  • In addition to the Gold Spatula, you also gain the Bubble Bowl attack for SpongeBob.
10.1.3 Second Part of Bikini Bottom

Gold Spatula Locations: 2. On Top of Shady Shoals

6. Ambush at the Tree Dome

Socks: 2

Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: None, Poseidome opens up this part.

  • Upon entering this area, turn left to Sandy's Treedome and enter it.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #6 ***
  • When you enter the Treedome, Sandy tells SpongeBob that the robots are running rampant and that she wants SpongeBob to take care of the problem.
  • This is a timed evolution. You will have 2:40 to take care of the robot infestation. Once you have taken care of the robots, Sandy will reward SpongeBob with a spatula.

_______________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #2 ***
  • Look to the left of the Police Station and you will see a pressure pad.
Stand on the pad to open up a switch in front of the pad.
  • Get your bubble bowling shoes on and roll one into the switch. When you do,
a trampoline will appear and boxes will appear between the Police Station
  and Shady Shoals.
  • Bounce up to the roof of the Police Station and don't forget to collect the
golden underwear in the vent. Go to the moving boxes and jump across to the
roof of Shady Shoals. Collect the spatula.

_______________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Go to the fountain and hit it. Jump up to get the sock. Be careful and don't fall in the water.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #2 ***
  • Enter the Shady Shoals retirement home. Hit the TV that Mermaid Man is watching and a sock will appear over the checker board

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • From the Second Part of Bikini Bottom, you can access the following areas:

Rock Bottom : 25 Gold Spatulas Sand Mountain : 30 Gold Spatulas Industrial Park : 40 Gold Spatulas Mermalair (Through Shady Shoals): Free

10.1.4 Industrial Park
  • Gold Spatula Locations: 1. Robo-Patrick Ahoy!
  • Socks: None
  • Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: 40 Gold Spatulas
  • In order to enter the Third Part of Bikini Bottom, you must take on the Patrick Robot in the ring. You will be doing this with a SpongeBob and Sandy tag team.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #1 ***
  • You will start this match off as SpongeBob. The arena itself has conveyor belts and platforms along the edge. The middle is terraced down toward a drain and goo surrounds the entire area.
  • Stay along the edges and avoid the Patrick Robot's spittle. It will lick the ice cream and send a shot at SpongeBob. If that fails, the Patrick Robot will spin around throwing up ice cream goo all over the place.
  • After the spinning, the robot gets dizzy and falls down. This is where you hit the robot where the "Kick Me" sign is on its back. Do this three times and SpongeBob will be encased in ice. Time for Sandy.
  • The robot will follow the same process as it did with SpongeBob. After the first hit, though, the robot will flood the lowest area with goo. To counter this, Sandy can lasso one of the hooks to drop boxes. When the Patrick Robot falls down, she can use a box to jump from into the robot's back.
  • After the second hit, the robot fills up the next area. After the third hit, the robot totally floods the lower area leaving only the raised platform and conveyor belt untouched.
  • SpongeBob takes over again. This time, the Patrick Robot starts off by using a blast of icy breath followed by a goo spit. The best solution to this is to get on the conveyors in the back of the area. When the Patrick Robot falls down, you can use the stable, non-conveyor platforms to Bubble Bowl into the robot's back. After three hits, the robot is history and the spatula is yours.
10.1.5 Third Part of Bikini Bottom
  • Gold Spatula Locations:
  • 3. On Top of Chum Bucket
  • 7. Infestation at the Krusty Krab
  • 8. A Wall Jump in the Bucket
  • Socks: 2

Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: None, Industrial Park opens up this

  area.
  • Your first priority should be to talk to Bubble Buddy. He will give the Cruise Bubble. The Cruise Bubble is a guided missile that can be guided to the target. This will be a very handy weapon for all the areas.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #3 ***
  • Look at the side of the Chum Bucket and you will see three buttons going up the wall. Use the Cruise Bubble to activate these buttons.
  • A trampoline will appear. Get on it to get on the roof and you will get the spatula.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Use the trampoline to bounce up to the Krusty Krab sign to collect the golden underwear.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #8 ***
  • Go into the Chum Bucket and look to the back wall. You will see a pipe coming out and curving upwards.
  • Jump onto the pipe and use the sticky-wall technique to climb this area. You are rewarded with a spatula.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Go behind the Krusty Krab and whack the dumpster. It will move aside to reveal a sock.

*** GOLD SPATULA #7 AND SOCK #2 ***
  • Mr. Krabs will tell you that the robots are busy busting up his place. He has tasked SpongeBob with clearing out the Krusty Krab.
  • When you enter, you will note that there are two Duplicatotron 1000's on the rafters. The goal is to get up to the upper area and take everything out. Beware of the Sleepy time robot.
  • When you are done clearing out the robots, go on a smashing binge. A sock will appear in the crow's nest. Collect your Gold Spatula from Mr. Krabs.

  • From the Third Part of Bikini Bottom, you can access the following areas:

Kelp Forest : 50 Gold Spatulas Flying Dutchman's Graveyard : 60 Gold Spatulas Chum Bucket Lab (Through Chum Bucket): 75 Gold Spatulas SpongeBob's Dream : Free Movie Theater : 40,000 shiny objects

  • In addition to the above taskings, there will be other taskings specific to this area that you will have to perform. Before you start doing all the below taskings, you will need to open up the downtown area for easier navigation.
  • After you see Mrs. Puff, turn left and you will see a Spongeball and a switch in the ground. After you activate the switch, you have three seconds to get through the gate. This means turning into a Spongeball to accomplish this.
  • Follow that road around. When it turns right, you will see another switch and Spongeball. This switch opens the gate at the end of the road. Again, hit the switch and roll to the gate. You have ten seconds to navigate past the Tabasco sauce to get through the gate.
  • After you have opened this gate, backtrack. Take care of the robots and go next to the Thunder Tikis along the fenceline. This will cause them to explode blowing holes in the fence. One hole will be by the bank and another will be at the next road before the road you came in on.
  • Go through the gate you last had to open and go to the right wall. In the
distance, on a building, a cannon is busy firing junk at you. Keeping
following to the right until you get under the cannon. Look left and you
will see a switch and Spongeball.
  • Activate the switch and a ramp will appear and a boat will drop into the hole. Turn into a Spongeball and go up the ramp, bounce off the boat, and go to the road on the other side.
  • Follow this road around to the right. When you turn the next right corner, you will see a Spongeball. In the distance you will see a ramp with a lifering for a hole in the fence. This is next to a Duplicatotron 1000. Turn into a ball and jump the ramp and go through the hole. Use the Thunder Tikis to blow open the fence.
  • Turn right and use the Thunder Tiki to blow open the fence next to the building with the cannon. You have now opened up the downtown area for maximum movement.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #1 ***
  • Talk to Mrs. Puff and she will relay that the citizens of the downtown area have to escape. In order to do this, they need their boat wheels. She has tasked SpongeBob with finding the elusive 11 boat wheels. These are the locations of said wheels:

DOWNTOWN:

  • Look straight ahead and you will see three wooden Tikis. On top is a wheel.
  • Look left and up. On the awning is a wheel.
  • From the where you enter the downtown area, go straight and there is a wheel against the fence.
  • Turn right, from the entrance, and head toward the statue. Turn left and
head up that road until you pass the Lighthouse. Turn left past where the
Duplicatotron 1000 used to be and then turn left down the next road (turning
right takes you to the Sea Needle). Go to the upended boat and there is a
  wheel on top of it.
  • Backtrack from the 4th wheel and go to the building with steps. Go to the
bus stop and change to Sandy. Jump and fly off the building to where the
cannon is located. Destroy the cannon and the wheel is at the end of the
  building.

ROOFTOPS:

  • Fly to the first roof and climb up on the second building. You will see a
Tar-tar on a building to the right. Fly over to that roof, take out the
Tar-tar and climb the pipe to get the wheel.
  • Continue to follow the rooftops around. After you pass the clam for Gold
Spatula 5, continue crossing the rooftops. You will come to a trampoline.
Instead of using the trampoline, hop up the platforms behind it to get the
  wheel.
  • You will eventually come to four moving platform teeters. The wheel hovers
  above the second platform

LIGHTHOUSE:

  • After defeating all the robots, one hovers above the switch on the ground
  floor.

SEA NEEDLE:

  • There is a wheel in the north and east hallways.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Go to the right (from the entrance) and head for the statue. You will see a
cannon off in the distance busy shooting sinks and other objects. You will
see the front semi-circle with four columns of Tikis topped off by a
Thunder Tiki. Under these columns are switches.
  • The goal is to make the cannon fire high enough so it hits the Thunder
Tikis. In turn, that explosion will destroy the Tiki column and allow you
to press the switch. Do this for all four columns.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #3 ***
  • After you activate the four switches, an anvil will drop out of the sky and
destroy the cannon. A Gold Spatula will appear above the statues head.
Climb the statue to claim your prize.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Turn left and head down the road that had the cannon at the end. Look to
your right and you will see a line of Stone Tikis topped off by a Thunder

  • Follow the tower around toward the bridge and the Gold Spatula Awaits.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Backtrack to the castle entrance and change to Patrick at the bus stop. Go back into the castle.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #5 ***
  • Activate the switch to flood the castle. Go up high and cross the wooden ledges until you get to the ledge with the Freeze Fruit.
  • Wait until the water has risen to its highest point, then toss the Freeze Fruit into it. Go across the ice and collect your sock from the alcove.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Go back to the ledge with the Freeze Fruit. This part will require some very tight timing, but it can be done.
  • Take the Freeze Fruit and toss it as close to the entrance as possible. Jump down and collect it.
  • On the bridge, over the moat, turn left and toss the Freeze Fruit into the water. You will have 8 seconds to make it to the mainland.
  • You should be very close to the shore by the 3-4 second mark. Now do a double jump and you should just make it to the shore. Climb up the cliff on the right to activate the Checkpoint.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #4 ***
  • Activate the switch with the watermelon. A raft and trampoline path will appear. Follow this path around to a small sandbar. Collect the Gold Spatula and backtrack to the mainland.

  • This area involves jumping to small platforms and navigating some tight
  spaces.
  • Change over to SpongeBob at the bus stop and proceed forward. Jump up and
activate the switch to drop some stone pedestals into the water.

_ Jump to the buoy with the canvas tarps.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Turn around on the buoy and drop to the lower level. Under the ledge you
jumped from is a sock. There are a few ways to get this sock.
*Jump to the sock, get it, and let the goo bounce you back to the buoy
 (if you're lucky).
*Sacrifice yourself and just jump to the sock. You will die but will get
 the sock.
*Use Patrick to get the Freeze Fruit from the other side of the cave and
freeze the goo. Your timing has to be pretty exact since there is very
 little margin for error.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • When you get to the planks on the wooden pier, you must get under the left
plank and hit it up so it connects you to the right side.
  • Follow this path around. Watch out, mines drop from the ceiling and roll
  down this path.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #2 ***
  • This will require some precision jumping. Remember, use shadows to
  determine where you will land.
  • To the left of the path, that the mines are rolling down, are a series of
five Floating Tikis. You must get on these Tikis.
  • They will lead you to a ledge which overlooks the first buoy you crossed
over. Follow the ledge around and take care of the robots. The sock is
  awaiting your retrieval.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Continue to follow the path around and you will end up at the place where
you had to hit the planks into place. This time, hit the right one so it
goes left. Then hop on it.
  • Follow the path to the cave exit.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #5 ***
  • You will get this at the end of the cave.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Either go to the cave entrance, or wait until you are on Lagoon Pier to use
the bus stop. Change to Patrick and get back to the cave exit area.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #3 ***
  • Use the Freeze Fruit and go to the island after the cave exit. Throw the
fruit into the water and turn left. The sock is behind some stone
  structures.

  • At the bus stop, change to Patrick (if you aren't already him) and chat with
Mr. Krabs. Seems the robots have been messing up his business and he needs
  Patrick's muscle to stop them.
  • Go down the steps and you will see a ticket booth to the left. Grab the
watermelon and take out the booth. This will create a path to your right.
  Follow the path up.
  • You will eventually come to a "Wak-A-Tiki" machine to your right.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Use the watermelon to activate the game. Jump in and basically destroy
every Tiki in there. Your reward is a sock.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Continue to follow the pier around. You will pass a "Skee-Ball" game where
SpongeBob can Bubble Bowl for extra Shiny Objects.
  • You will eventually come to a big area that has a bungee jump that will cost
you 2200 Shiny Objects, a roller coaster, and a snack bar.

  • Destroy the Duplicatotron 1000 and robots to collect the sock. Be careful,
this is very slick and you could slide into the goo if you're not careful.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Continue to follow the pier until you get to the Bumper Car area. Use the
watermelon to activate the switch to make steps appear from the side of this
  ride.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #6 ***
  • As the objective states, clear all the robots out of this area. Go back to
Mr. Krabs to collect your Gold Spatula.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Exit the bumper car area and go down the steps to the end of the pier.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #7 ***
  • Turn right and get the Freeze Fruit. Throw it in the water and run to the
next platform with a Freeze Fruit. When the water thaws, throw that Freeze
  Fruit.
  • You will then get to the platform with the Gold Spatula and a Freeze Fruit.
  • Just do the same to backtrack to where you started.

  • You can jump on the trampoline to go to the small island to finish Connect
the Towers. From that island, get on the trampoline to bounce back to
  where Larry is standing.

  • This area is a lot of open space. There is a lot of jumping and swinging
  involved.
  • Immediately when you enter this area, you will encounter Mrs. Puff. She
will tell you that the robots have stolen some artwork. SpongeBob is
tasked with retrieving the six paintings.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #3 ***

ROCK BOTTOM:

  • On the road to the rickety bridge.
  • On the plateau overlooking the road after you cross the rickety bridge.
This plateau also has the switch for the hook to achieve Gold Spatula #4.

MUSEUM:

  • On the lower floor.
  • On the balcony before you exit into the Trench of Darkness.

TRENCH OF DARKNESS:

  • Behind the middle laser (as you are facing them).
  • In the area where you get to Gold Spatula #8.
  • Go to Mrs. Puffs for your reward.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Continue down the road to the rickety bridges. You can either sneak across
the bridges or just jump across them. Once you are past both bridges, you
will see a Sleepy-time robot ahead.
  • Once you have dealt with this threat, continue over the metal platform and
go left along the building. Continue to work your way to the very back of
  this area.
  • Take out the Thunder Tikis and activate the switch. This will drop the gate
from the Duplicatotron 1000 that was over the metal platform.
  • Destroy the Duplicatotron 1000. You will see a switch and a Spongeball.
The goal is to activate the switch. This in turn will drop a gate at the
end of this walkway to another switch. Turn into a Spongeball and roll to
that area. You have 20 seconds to accomplish this.
  • You will be at another switch. Activate this switch to bring up another
platform. Again, use the Spongeball to roll along it. You have 6 seconds
  to make it.
  • As you go up this walkway, watch out for the cannon firing things at you.
  • Continue around until you get to the cannon. Destroy it to prevent further
  harassment.
  • Backtrack to the pair of toothbrushes. They will serve as a sticky wall for
SpongeBob to climb. When you get to the top, go to the rooftop.
  • Switch over to Sandy so you can continue to swing to the rooftops.

_______________________________________________________________________________

*** GOLD SPATULA #4 AND SOCK #1 ***
  • When you get to the roof top with the trampoline, look to your right. You should see the plateau that you passed as SpongeBob after crossing the rickety bridges.
  • Glide over to that plateau and go to the big rock. Activate the switch and a moving hook drops down.
  • Get on top of the big rock and wait for the hook to head toward you. Then jump and fly toward the hook. Latch onto it to swing to the tall building to collect your Gold Spatula.
  • Get back on the hook. Jump and fly over to the big rock opposite the one with the switch. You should have just enough power to do it. The sock sits on the flat part between the two rocks.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Swing back to the roof top you got off of. Then go ahead and swing to the Museum. Watch out for Chuck.
  • When you get to that mountain, go to the bus stop.

*** GOLD SPATULA #2 AND SOCK #2 ***
  • You will have 40 seconds to make it down to the end of the slide and claim your prize.
  • As you are sliding, there will be a ledge to your right. On top that ledge is a sock.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Go through the area and get to the elevator on the right side.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #3 ***
  • As you go up the elevator, you will see a slide to your right. Jump on the
slide and go down just a small ways. Hop off to the right to collect the
sock on the roof of the building (it will roughly be under the area of the
collapsed walkway and the Duplicatotron 1000 that was at ground level).

10.5.1. Museum

Gold Spatula Locations: 5. Plundering Robots in the Museum

Socks: 3

Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: None

  • You start of with SpongeBob chatting with Barnacle Boy. Seems that the
robots have invaded the Museum. To make matters even worse, you must de-
activate the security system. This consists of lasers criss-crossing the
floor. The Cruise Bubble comes in very handy for this part (if you are
  SpongeBob).
  • From the balcony, jump to the display case in front of it. Your goal is to
deactivate the high switches first. You must, though, avoid the electric
  barriers.
  • Once you have deactivated the electrical barriers, you can go down to ground
level. Deactivate the switches to turn off the lasers.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Go under the balcony you entered and get the sock.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Go to the next area. Take care of Sleepy-time robot and proceed into the
next part of the museum. Again, you are confronted with lasers criss-
crossing the floor. You will also see three wooden teeter-totters being
  supported by tires.
  • You need to shut these lasers off (trust me, you do) so just go across this
teeter-totter bridge to the other side. Then deactivate the floor lasers.
  • Get back onto the teeter-totters and to the balcony.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #5 ***
  • Collect the Gold Spatula from the balcony.

  • Go across the rickety bridge until you get to the gap in the railing.
  • Jump over the gap and continue left. Climb up the display case to get to the next level. Go to the gap and jump on the tire. You need to be quick because this tire sinks to the ground. Jump to the other balcony across the way.
  • Follow it around to the next gap. You will see three tire swings. To further compound the problem, a Monsoon is hovering around. Take him out if you can to make your journey easier.
  • Jump on the first swing and turn right. Jump on that swing and turn left. Jump on that swing, then jump to the balcony.
  • Follow the balcony to the next gap. Another Monsoon awaits you along with three more tire swings. Again, jump to the nearest, turn right and jump on that one. Then turn left and jump on that swing. Then jump to the balcony.

  *** SOCKS #2 AND #3 ***
  • Look to your right (as you face the exit) and you will see a balcony. Hover
over to it to collect the sock.
  • Look to your left (as you face the balcony across the room) and you will see

  • You will eventually come to a switch with a Spongeball by it. Yep, you guessed it...activate the switch to drop the gate at the end of this path. You have 8 seconds to make it.
  • Once you get to the end of the path, use the elevator to go to the next level.
  • Continue to follow the path around until you get to a bus stop and card board box. To the right is a stone pedestal with a rickety bridge connection.

  *** SOCK #2 ***
  • Pay the clam 2400 Shiny Objects to bungee down and get the sock.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Plankton is waiting for you at the end of the path. If you aren't Sandy,
Plankton will demand that you get her.
  • Plankton explains that all three lasers need to be fired into a central
core. Time to do some fancy swinging.
  • Swing to the first stone pedestal directly in front of you.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #3 ***
  • Step off the edge of this pedestal to go to another lower down. Collect the
sock and use the trampoline to return.

  • Continue this process for all three lasers. Once activated, a beam will
chop up some more pedestals and create a path from the area Plankton is in
  toward the exit.

  *** GOLD SPATULA #7 ***
  • After you have activated all the lasers, go back to Plankton for your reward.

  • Go back to where the new path is.

  *** GOLD SPATULA #8 ***
  • A hook will appear on a plateau across the gap. Jump and hover to that
plateau. Turn and snag the hook to swing on top of the building to collect
  the Gold Spatula.

  • Go to the moving walkway and Bubble Bowl the paddle wheel until it points to the rotating disk. Get on the disk and avoid the electrical conduits.
  • Head over to the area that Mermaid Man is busy watching TV. Go to the bus stop and change into Patrick. Go and talk to Mermaid Man.
  • He will show Patrick three taskings he must complete to set things right.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #4 ***
  • The first area involves a disco floor. When the tiles are red, the floor is
deadly. Yellow means it will turn to red. The pattern is Left, Up, Right,
Back, Up, Left, Up, Right, Up, Up. With the watermelon picked up from the
main area, hit the opening in the machine to shut it down.
  • The second area involved tilting platforms. The best way to do this is get
the watermelon and toss it to the third platform. Jump across the platforms
and get the watermelon. Toss it to the area with the machine. Quickly pick
up the watermelon and shut down the machine.
  • The third area is a conveyor belt that is turned off. Avoid the incoming
fire from the machine and plug the hole to finish the job. Get the Gold
  Spatula from Mermaid Man.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Go to the clam and pay it 2300 Shiny Objects to get a teeter-totter. This
will propel you up to the area Barnacle Boy is in.
  • He will explain that all the towers need to face inward so that their power
  can be harnessed.

  • It doesn't really matter how you do this pattern, but it must be done in
  this order:
*Turn on the 1st, 4th, and 7th machines.
*Turn on the 2nd, 5th, and 8th machines.
*Turn on the 3rd and 6th machines.
  • This should cause all of them to face inward. Just designate a machine as
your 1st one and it should be easy.

  • Go along the edge of the rotating platform until you see a switch. Activate
it to bring out a conveyor belt walkway to a far off landing (the conveyor
  belt turns in your direction).
  • Go up the path and around until you reach a paddle switch. Bubble Bowl it
to bring down an elevator. Ride the elevator up to another rotating plat-
form. Look for another switch. Activate it to bring out the left wall on
  the far off landing.
  • Follow another path around to another paddle switch. Use the elevator to go
up to the next rotating platform. Activate the switch on the edge to bring
  out the right wall.
  • Go back down to the original rotating platform and head to the conveyor
belt. Be very careful, a Chuck is waiting to bombard you.

  • The path is winding and the hazards are great. You must cross a few disco floors to make it to the top of the security tunnel. To further complicate things, you must also deal with robots.
  • When you get to the area with the third security switch, you will see a clam. Pay it 2300 Shiny Objects and a platform will appear.

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Get on the platform and jump to the conveyor belts. Watch out for the

  • At the glass enclosed Gold Spatula, face forward and you will see a ramp
going up to a switch. Bubble Bowl up the ramp to activate the switch. This
  will release a ball.
  • Bubble Bowl into the wooden gear to the right to align the track with the
  other tracks.
  • Turn right and run over to the gray pendulum. Bubble Bowl the bottom of it
as soon as you get to it to drop the scoop. A quick cut scene will show the
ball being picked up by the scoop.
  • Go to the pressure plate on the floor and you will reveal a switch. Get
yourself aligned to bowl into this switch.
  • You will see the shadow of the ball pass overhead. When the actual ball
passes over your head, activate the switch and run to the stairs that are
forward and slightly to the right. Go up these stairs and jump on the
  pressure plate to the left.
  • Right after the ball passes over the wooden bridge, run forward (you may
have to take out the robot) and activate the next switch. This causes the
  hammer to rise.
  • Run forward and jump on the tilting wooden platform. The goal is to get the
ball into the far right corner so that it drops into the glass cylinder
  below.
  • When the ball falls into the glass cylinder, jump to the next platform. You

disco lights. When this occurs, Bubble Bowl into Prawn to score a hit.
  • Prawn has a couple of attacks:
*He sends out a sonic wave attack. You must run away from it along the
 edge or take the hit.
*He will also launch Ham-mers after the first hit. So you now have more
 enemies to deal with.
  • Keep working your way around the edges and look for openings while avoiding

Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: 50 Gold Spatulas

  • This is probably one of the most difficult areas. The reason is due to all
the twists and turns one must go through to get things. In addition, many
of the jumps require split-second timing or you will end up in the swamp.
  • When you enter this area, go to the right and use the brown leaves to bounce
up to the cliff. Jump off the other side and head to the left.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • This is probably the most difficult sock to acquire during the game. Look to your left and you will see a stairstep row of floating Tikis. They are topped by Thunder Tikis. To the right is a tall mountain.
  • Go to the other side and you will see a rock sticking out of the ground. This next part will require some very quick precision moves.
  • Jump to the lower Tiki stair and quickly climb up them before the Tikis explode. You will only have a couple of seconds to do this.
  • At the top of the mountain, look toward the vine with brown leaves on it. Jump to those leaves and climb up to the cliff. At the top is a sock.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Come down off the cliff and you will see a row of Shhh Tikis in a row (There
  are seven of them).

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #2 ***
  • Get ready to Bubble Bowl. The goal is to bowl down the entire line of Shhh
Tikis and destroy them in one shot. Doing so will cause a sock to appear
over the rock next to the vines.

  • Go up past the Check Point and chat with Mrs. Puff. She will state that due
to the robot invasion, six campers have become lost. She wants SpongeBob to

The lost campers are located at:

KELP FOREST:

  • On the mountain to the right of the porta-potty.
  • On the mountain overlooking the waterfall at the end of the area.
  • On the mountain overlooking the flat land after you enter the area.

KELP SWAMP:

  • There is a camper located in each area on either side of the swamp.

KELP CAVES:

  • Located in on the ledge before you enter the final cave with the spatula
(you must go up the steps).
  • Return to Mrs. Puff for your reward.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Go left from Mrs. Puff and go around the vine covered bridge. You will see a small island. Jump to it then use the brown leaves to get onto the bridge.
  • Go to the end of the bridge overlooking Mrs. Puff and activate the switch.
This will cause a vine to rise in the small water hole behind the picnic
table. You will use this route later with Patrick to retrieve the campers.
  • Become Patrick and head over to the outcrop that has four Thunder Tikis in a
row. Set them off and jump down to the dry land below.
  • Look across the water and you will see a small rock with a Freeze Fruit on

it.

  a floater real fast.
  • Enter the area and jump to the flat rock, then jump to the area Mr. Krabs is
at. He will tell SpongeBob to find Patrick because he has a job for him.
Before getting Patrick, clear the area of enemies using the Cruise Bubble.
It will make it that much easier to get around.
  • In addition, turn back toward the area you entered and look to the left
toward a ledge (next to the G-love). There is a switch on the wall.
Activate it to cause a vine to rise, in the main part of the swamp, next to
  the cliff face.
  • Go the bus stop and change into Patrick then go back to Mr. Krabs. He wants
Patrick to round up some Stone Tikis and put them on the ground switches so
that access can be made to the walkway above.
  • The best way to do this tasking will be to basically go the perimeter of the
swamp. This part of the walkthrough will be done a little differently to
  reflect this.
  • Turn around and head back toward the entrance to Kelp Forest. Jump on top
of the stone pedestal. Then jump to the brown leaf at the path on the
  other side.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***

  • Move around that ledge to another brown leaf. Use it to bounce to the next ledge to the right. Collect the sock.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Jump on the brown leaf and it will bounce you to a shoreline with a G-love.
Head up into that area and you may confront a Sleep-time robot. After
clearing it out, go all the way to the back for the camper.
  • Go to the clam and pay 2600 Shiny Objects to open the gate. Head along that
path until you reach the water on the other side. A brown leaf sits ready
for bouncing. A cut scene will also show a hook dropping down next to a
mountain sitting next to a waterfall.
  • Jump to that leaf and go to the edge. Jump to the next leaf and to the
cliff. Turn right and jump to the next cliff. Continue to do this as you
work your way around this part of the swamp.

  • Jump back to the first mountain you started on and now head toward the
mountain that had the Arf robot on it. Use the brown leaves to get to the
mountain where the Duplicatotron 1000 was located at and you will see a
Stone Tiki. Toss it down to the switches below and drop down to place it on
  one of the switches.
  • Head back to the Kelp Forest exit and jump on the stone platform again.
This time, jump to the right and head along the path. If you go left, you
  get another camper.
  • Head to the right until you get to the water. Look to your left and you
will see a small beach with a button and a Freeze Fruit.

  • Go back to the ledge that leads to the back to the cave. Go left and get on
the brown leaf to go up to the next ledge.
  • Grab the Stone Tiki and walk onto the brown leaf. Face right and bounce to
that leaf. Then bounce back onto the area that has the ground switches.
Put the Stone Tiki onto the switch.

you must jump on a few trampolines.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #7 ***

Missile or you won't be able to get some of the spatulas.
  • Go up to the Flying Dutchman. He will explain that the robots have taken

  • Hop on the platforms and head to the flat, stony area. You will then see

move the column closest to you to the left.
  • Before you leave this area, go down the steps to the treasure chest and you

will open to reveal a button. Remember this location for later.
  • Go up the sticky wall into the battered hull of the ship and proceed
forward. You will come upon another flat rock with moveable columns. As

get to the other side. Some of the hooks require you to jump and hover to
  get to them.
  • You will end up on the wreckage of one of the ships.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Go to the edge of this ship and turn around. Carefully walk backwards to fall off and immediately go forward. You will be rewarded with a sock.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • Hover over to the next platform and change to SpongeBob at the bus stop and turn toward the sticky wall.
  • You will notice that this sticky wall has an added challenge. The center portion comes in and out. You must climb this sticky wall before the center portion comes out far enough to push you off.
  • Go around the deck and you will reach a Check Point. You will see a ship with sails on either side.
  • The sails of this ship will serve as a sticky wall. Instead of going up, however, you must go forward. This will take some practice. Just bounce diagonally into the wall, when you bounce off, turn diagonally into the other wall. Allow yourself to fall a little so you don't go over the top of wall. Keep doing this and you should get to the other side without a problem. You will have the ship's deck below you in case you fall.
  • Go across the rock to the next pair of sails. Do the same as you did on the first set. This time, be aware that there is nothing under you. In other words, you are bouncing between the sails in free space.
  • Head along the path to the third pair of sails. This time, the sails are moving back and forth over the gap. The best way to get through here is to let the sails get a quarter of the way out then jump to them. Control your jumps so you stay between the sails and you should have no problem getting to the rock outcropping.
  • Follow the path around and take care of enemy robots in one of the alcoves.

  *** GOLD SPATULA #5 ***
  • Look to your right to see a crows nest with a clam in it. Pay the clam 2700 Shiny Objects to bring a hook down.
  • Use the hook to bungee down and get the Gold Spatula.

  • Follow the path around to the top. Hop into the boat to enter the next
  area.

  • You will meet up with Mr. Krabs when you get off the boat. Jump to the
rock, then the moving crows nest, then to the deck of the ship.
  • Punch the button to activate the cannon on the main deck.
  • The offset planks between the ships are very rickety. This means jump on
and off them quickly to get to the other ship.
  • On the other ship, Bubble Bowl the paddle to lower the platform. Then go
up the side of the ship to the bow (front of the ship). Change to Sandy
  at the bus stop.
  • Go to the lowered platform and it will automatically raise up. Snag the
hooks and swing your way back to the other ship. You will end up on the
  platform with a cannon.
  • Activate the cannon, turn right, and jump/hover to the stern (back part) of
that ship (there is a treasure chest there as well). Activate the cannon
  and turn around.
  • You will see a series eight platforms leading in stairstep fashion up to
the top of the ships mast. These platforms sink when your weight is on
them so you have to jump quickly.
  • When you get to the top, activate the last cannon. A cut scene will show
all the cannons firing on the second ship. A Gold Spatula will appear and
the treasure chest will open revealing a button.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** SOCK #1 ***
  • Use the hooks and swing over to the top of the mast on the second ship.
Look to your right and you will see a sock midway down the line.
  • Jump and hover toward where the sock is. Then drop down to collect the sock
in mid air. Return to the first ship.

  *** GOLD SPATULA #7 ***
  • Jump on the trampoline and it will vault you to the very top of the first
mast. On top is a Gold Spatula for the taking.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  • After collecting this spatula, the scene will change. It appears the Dutchman doesn't want to keep his word regarding the clearing of his ship of the robots. Time to do battle.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #8 ***
  • You will fight the Dutchman as Sandy. The Dutchman has two basic attacks:
  • He will fire criss-crossing lasers from his eyes...twice from one side of
the platform, twice from the other side.
  • He will then go low and use a rolling flame breath. Make sure you jump
over it.
  • When the Dutchman passes you while using the flame breath, lasso his "tail". After you lasso his "tail" three times, the battle is over and the Gold Spatula is yours.

  • This is the final confrontation. This area is actually broken up into two areas. The first you have to take on take on Spongebot from the outside while the second part has you dealing with Spongebot from the inside.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  *** GOLD SPATULA #1 ***
  • You start off on a floating platform. Any time you fall you can use the trampoline to get back on the platform. Every time you are on the floor, a Planktonbot will fire lasers at you.
  • Spongebot has nine green lights on him:
  • One on each hand, one under each arm, one on each corner of its face, and one on the end of its nose.
  • Your goal is to extinguish all of the lights. The battle starts off with Spongebot trying to sweep you off the pedestal. When its hand is low, Bubble Bounce on it to break the light.
  • You will basically need to use the Cruise Bubble to put out the other lights. After three hits, Spongebot goes inert and Planktonbot attacks until Spongebot recharges.
  • The second round of three hits has Spongebot trying to karate chop you off the platforms. Three more hits makes it inert and Planktonbot attacks.
  • The third round of three hits has Spongebot aggressively using the Kaw-Raw-Tae move to basically cause the platform to spin you off. This one is the roughest to keep on the platforms with. After three more hits, the Spongebot goes inert and you collect a spatula.

Gold Spatula Locations: 2. The Small Shall Rule...or Not

Socks: None

Gold Spatulas or Shiny Objects to Access: None

  • The basic gist of this area is to jump to platforms and destroy the fuses on remote platforms. You will also be attacked by Planktonbot on each of these platforms. Hit it with a Cruise Bubble to cut down on his harassment.
  • When you get to the top level platforms, you must deliver a Cruise Bubble in each of the holes in the Spongebot brain and destroy the fuses to put the robot out of commission for good.
  • The closing scene shows the Spongebot falling apart.
  • Plankton will act remorseful for the trouble he has caused. Of course, we know he will be back to cause more trouble.

Unit V

11. Items and Enemies

This chapter will talk about all the items you will find in your travels. It will also discuss about the different enemies you will have to overcome to accomplish your tasks.

11.1 Items

There are many different items to be found in this game. You will need to use these to get around the areas and complete your objectives.

  • Bus Stop - Used to change between different characters.
  • Freeze Fruit - Used to freeze goo so you can cross it. Only Patrick can throw it.
  • Gold Spatula - Your ultimate goal in order to access all areas.
  • Information Signs - Give information on different things in the game. Represented by a sign with a "?" on it.
  • Shiny Objects - Used as currency. Must be used to access certain areas.
  • Spongeball - Change SpongeBob into a ball. Required when you need to get someplace quickly.
  • Texas Trailer Hitch - Used by Sandy to swing around with her lasso.
  • Tiki - Come in many varieties. Used for multiple things.
  • Wood: Most predominant. Easy to break.
  • Floating: Usually by themselves or with another Tiki atop them. Used to access hard to get to areas. Easy to break.
  • Thunder: If you get too close, these tend to storm and explode. Can damage if you are in the blast radius.
  • Shhh: You have to sneak up on these or they disappear.
  • Stone: Indestructible (for the most part). Can be taken out by the Cruise Bubble or Thunder Tiki.
  • Underwear - There are two types, regular and golden. Regular underwear replenish health while Gold Underwear increase the amount of hits you can take. The Gold Underwear are located at:
  • On top of Squidward's house.
  • On top of the Police Station.
  • On top of the Krusty Krab sign.
  • Watermelons - Patrick can throw these to take out enemies, activate switches, or to use on teeter-totters.

11.2. Enemies

In your travels, you will encounter many enemies. Their purpose is to prevent you from accomplishing your objectives. Some enemies are a minor annoyance while others can really cause you trouble.

  • Arf - Cowboy hatted robot that releases Arf-dawgs.
  • Arf-dawg - Exploding dawgs released by Arf.
  • Bomb-bot - Little robot with a red light on top. Explodes after a period of time.
  • Bzzt-bot - Small robot that fires a laser beam from its eye.

  • Slick - Robot with a hazy oil shield around it. Likes to blow oil bubbles at you. These cause you to lose your footing.
  • Tar-tar - Robot that has a tartar sauce jar on its back. Fires salvos of three shots at you.
  • Tubelet - Come stacked in threes. Likes to make a spiral jump rope out of fire.

12. Conclusion

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle of Bikini Bottom is both a challenging and frustrating game. Even with that, though, it is a fun game. It plays just like a cartoon with the cutscenes and it is you who is responsible for the action. I guess you have to be a fan of the series to appreciate the game and get some of its "inside" jokes. This game is definitely a delight and I can see how it would aid in developing hand-eye coordination. Although geared mostly to children, I'm sure a few adults would enjoy playing this game...I know I did. This guide, though, was a lot of fun to write and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of reading it. If you do have other ideas or thoughts, please e-mail me and share them. Who knows, maybe I'll start a Q&A chapter in this guide if enough people ask the same questions. Anyway, thank you again for reading this guide.

Trivia

  • All versions of this game have backwards compatibility.
    • The PS2 version can be played on old PS3 units.
    • The GameCube version can be played on various Wii units.
    • The GBA version can be played on all DS and DS Lite units.
    • The Xbox version can be played on all Xbox 360 units.
    • The PC version can be played on all older computer units.

Demo disc for the game, The Fairly OddParents: Breakin Da Rules, and Jimmy Neutron vs. Jimmy Negatron.

The robots from this game make a cameo in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie video game as garbage, meaning that SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy succeeded in defeating them all. This further drives in the idea that The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie video game is a sequel to Battle for Bikini Bottom.
  • Mr. Krabs and Mermaid Man are the only two characters not voiced by their original actors, Clancy Brown and Ernest Borgnine, and are instead both voiced by Joe Whyte.
  • If SpongeBob has already unlocked the movie theater and asks the ticket booth man, he will ask what movies are currently playing. One of the movies is Carp Wars, a reference to Star Wars.
  • In Squidward's Tiki, there are several paintings featured. The painting on the easel is a cartoon looking bowl of fruit, which could be in reference to the painting from 1599 called Basket of Fruit. There is also a painting to the right of it that is a reference to the "Skodwarde" meme image.
  • Many gameplay aspects, primarily the act of collecting things to progress and sliding sections, were obviously inspired by the likes of Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, renowned 3D platformers of that era.
  • This game introduces a brand new villain to Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy, Prawn, who they consider to be their "arch nemesis" and "worse than Man Ray, Atomic Flounder, and the Dirty Bubble." He has never been seen in any episode to date since then. This is surprising considering this game made was very early on in the series yet he has still never been brought back up. But this could be because he resembles Plankton in a lot of ways, so the audience may get the two confused. Also, he has been contradicted by Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy restating in future episodes that the Dirty Bubble is their #1 nemesis.
  • When SpongeBob enters the Krusty Krab, if the player looks out the front window, Mr. Krabs (who was standing right outside the KK) is nowhere to be seen. Additionally, a mime (who is absent if the player is outside) can be seen pressing itself against said window. The same is seen at Sandy's treedome, with Patrick and Sandy visible inside, while not present outside the domain.
  • The maximum amount of shiny objects the player can hold up to is 99,999.
    Spongebob 103003 01
  • In the Treedome level when SpongeBob becomes dehydrated has become a popular internet meme which is considered to be named "Spengebab."
  • In the PC version of this game, when one of the robots throws a crumpled up piece of paper at Plankton, Plankton says, "You *dolphin chirp* robots!" This may have been a reference to the episode "Sailor Mouth."
BFBBDemo

PC Demo

  • The PC version came as a demo on the SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric DVD.
  • At some point in June 5, 2005 this video game and Breakin' Da Rules were released in a bundle called the Double Pack Volume 2
    • Also, at some point in 2005 this video game and Nicktoons Freeze Frame Frenzy were released in a bundle called the Double Pack Volume 3.
      • Also in the UK this video game and various Nickelodeon video games were released various bundles together.
  • In Sandy's dream, if the player talks to Larry Lobster after the player completes the slide, he asks the player to come and work out with him in his dream bubble, implying that Larry may have a crush on Sandy.
  • In Sandy's dream, all the platforms the player can stand on, except the giant acorn, are shaped like Texas.
  • Many songs from this game's soundtrack have since been recycled into other SpongeBob games, most notably SpongeBob's Truth or Square.
Ataria 2600 controller made out of sand

Atari 2600 controller made out of sand

  • In Goo Lagoon, there is a hidden Atari 2600 controller made of sand that can be found near the giant sand castle.
  • There was a demo-movie for this game on the Mario game Mario Kart: Double Dash!! bonus disc.
  • This game also is known to be the "Best SpongeBob Game" content-wise as well.
  • This game has lots of unused content that was never used in the final game that still remains in the game files. In the early trailers, you can see some of the used content. On a website called The Cutting Room Floor, there is a page about unused content in Battle For Bikini Bottom that is still in the files. For more information visit the page on TCRF - SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom
  • This game was released on Lux Interior's 57th birthday.
  • The Xbox version has some leftovers from Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights, another game Heavy Iron Studios developed, as Battle for Bikini Bottom was based on the source code for said game.
  • The PlayStation 2 version of this game would later be bundled with The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie video game in the Happy Squared Double Pack, which was released on March 3, 2009. Which ironically, the double pack's name is similar to Heavy Iron's canceled SpongeBob game: Happiness Squared.
  • When compared to the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions, the GameCube version has dimmer lighting, a lower framerate in some of the levels, some details removed, and scaled down textures, due to GameCube discs having less space than PlayStation 2 and Xbox discs (which are DVDs).
    • A similar thing occurs in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (video game).
    • The PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions also have a fireworks sound play upon acquisition of a golden spatula or sock, whereas the GameCube version does not.
  • The PS2, GameCube, and Xbox versions have the same gameplay, while the GameBoy Advance and PC versions each have their own gameplay style.
  • If the player goes into the Rock Bottom Museum for the first time as Sandy instead of SpongeBob, and completes the "Plundering Robots in the Museum" mission as that character, Barnacle Boy will not mention his son.
  • This is Bubble Buddy's second appearance.
  • Ways to get Patrick's socks:
    • In SpongeBob's Library, use the beach ball to get enough height to press the button near the exit. Then, some platforms will appear. Use the springboard to bounce up to them and jump up to the sock
    • The first time you talk to Patrick, there will be a sock on his foot. Grab it once you're done talking to him.
    • In Patrick's House, destroy the sand couch with SpongeBob's spin attack, and a sock will appear.
    • In Squidward's House, destroy every breakable thing in his house and a sock will appear. by the window.
  • The Realistic Fish Head is called "Johnny." This is one of many different names he is given throughout the series and tie-in media.
  • This is the first 3D Game of Spongebob.
  • You can actually see the other levels depending on where you are in other levels.
    • Ex. Jellyfish Fields, you can see Spongebob, Squidward and Patrick's house, Downtown Bikini Bottom, etc.
    • You can see almost see Downtown Bikini Bottom in the beginning of Goo Lagoon.
    • The list goes on.

Episode references

This game makes many references to the show, to the point where it's extremely likely the developers watched several episodes for inspiration when both writing the script and designing the gameplay.

  • In the episode "Neptune's Spatula," there is a golden spatula in a museum exhibit, which SpongeBob pulls out with ease. In the game, there are many golden spatulas in the levels, which SpongeBob and friends earn by completing certain tasks. Plus, the stadium where King Neptune and SpongeBob had a cook-off is also where SpongeBob and Patrick fight Robo-Sandy.
  • In the episode "Plankton!," Plankton offers SpongeBob a golden spatula.
  • At the Poseidome, when Robo-Sandy appeared, Patrick said "It's a Giraffe!" ("Bubblestand").
  • In the Treedome section of the game, the player can clearly see that SpongeBob is dehydrated due to him being a sea creature. This also happened in "Tea at the Treedome" and "Squirrel Jokes."
  • The level 'Mermalair,' is based on the episode "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III." The mini-boss battle is also a reference to the episode, in which Prawn was released and imprisoned in a similar experience that Man Ray was.
  • In the episode "Prehibernation Week," SpongeBob and Sandy go to the Industrial Park, in which SpongeBob melted after taking the course. In the game, the Industrial Park is where SpongeBob and Sandy go to fight Robo-Patrick.
  • In the episode "Club SpongeBob," SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward were stranded in a kelp forest. In the game, the same kelp forest serves as a level, but the field wasn't completely covered in kelp. Instead, there are open spaces in the level where the player can explore.
  • In the episode "Sleepy Time," SpongeBob traverses around the dream realm to visit some of his friends' dreams. The level 'SpongeBob's Dream' is based on the episode, in which SpongeBob has to enter his friends' dreams in order to get Golden Spatulas and to reach Patrick's Dream.
  • On the design of SpongeBot SteelPants, he has rocket jets for legs, similar to how SpongeBob blasted off in the water when he was picked as hall monitor in the episode "Hall Monitor." Plus, the first form of Robo-SpongeBob is similar to when SpongeBob puts on his karate gear in various episodes like "Karate Choppers," or "No Weenies Allowed."
    • Also, SpongeBot's design is sort of like the Design of SpongeTron due with the Jet flames.
  • When SpongeBot SteelPants is defeated for the first time, Robo-Plankton will repair him into a form similar to when SpongeBob got Anchor Arms in "MuscleBob BuffPants." Also, during the Goo Lagoon scene, the Juice Bar from the same episode is seen.
  • As SpongeBot SteelPants grows due to Robo-Plankton's repairs, Patrick thinks that he's shrinking. This is a reference to the episodes "Suds" and "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV."
  • If SpongeBob approaches the vending machine in the first parts of the level Rock Bottom, a bus will arrive and then leave again. This is based on SpongeBob's failed attempts to get on the bus in "Rock Bottom."
    • Upon entering the Rock Bottom Museum, the player can see that the paintings are actually episode frames from various SpongeBob episodes.
  • If the player falls into a pit or goes to a restricted area long enough, Hans will come out and will take the player out of the danger. Similarly, in the episode "Suds," when SpongeBob (and Patrick) are about to get their treatments, Hans comes out and takes them to their treatments.
  • Bubble Buddy appears in the game, making this his second appearance since his debut episode.
    • Bubble Buddy also appears in the episode "Bubble Buddy Returns" making it his third appearance.
    • When SpongeBob encounters Bubble Buddy for the first time, Bubble Buddy says SpongeBob must learn all of his Bubble Moves if he's planning to "travel to the 9th dimension, and defeat the giant monkey man." Patrick practically says exactly the same thing in "Big Pink Loser."
    • When the player defeats the robots in the Rock Bottom Museum, Bubble Buddy says "I think it's time for a victory screech!" Then, he and SpongeBob do one. This is a reference to "The Algae's Always Greener" and "Club SpongeBob."
  • When the player returns 10 socks to Patrick, he says "Here's your golden backscratcher," to which SpongeBob replies "Spatula," and Patrick retorts "I don't speak Italian." This line was used in "Wormy." The only difference is that it's said by SpongeBob instead of Patrick.
  • When the player goes down a slope while playing as SpongeBob, he will go down on his tongue, and Sandy goes down on a clam, just like in the Sand Mountain scene in "Prehibernation Week."
    • SpongeBob also crashes into a sandman in the episode, just like how the player has to crash into 8 sandmen along the slope to get one of Patrick's socks.
  • In the episode "Hooky," SpongeBob gets his pants caught on a fishing hook. In some points of the game, SpongeBob can bungee-jump on the fishing hooks, with his pants caught on them of course.
  • In the episode "Ripped Pants," a woman forgets to put on sunscreen. In the Goo Lagoon scene of this, the robots steal people's sunscreen.
  • The police station from the episode "Life of Crime" is seen.
  • One of SpongeBob's moves, the Bubble Bowl, is named after the stadium with the same name from "Band Geeks."
  • In a few points in the game, a mime fish can be seen. This is a reference to the episode "The Sponge Who Could Fly," where SpongeBob saves Patrick from a mime fish.
  • King Jellyfish from "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic" is a boss in the game.
  • At the end of the Sand Mountain level, Patrick says "I want the warm now!" This is similar to when he said it in the episode "Survival of the Idiots."
  • In SpongeBob's Pineapple, the player will see the same picture SpongeBob looks at when Squidward comes back from the hospital in "Jellyfishing."
  • Inside Patrick's Rock, a picture of SpongeBob and Patrick together is seen hanging on the wall, it also appears on the information for the level Rock Bottom to show the player how much artwork the player has collected. This picture was originally seen when SpongeBob snuck into Patrick's house at night in "The Secret Box."
  • Inside Squidward's house, one of the paintings references Squidward's face after being asked if he's sure that he hates Krabby Patties, which is from the episode "Just One Bite."
  • When SpongeBob is reading the note on the typewriter, from Mr. Krabs, in his house, the player hears SpongeBob say "And it even smells sweaty, just like him!," this is a reference to when SpongeBob says "Boy Mr. Krabs, you sure are sweaty" in the episode "Arrgh!"
  • When SpongeBob goes to the Mermalair, and the first that Mermaid Man speaks in the level, he says "Is that the TV repairman?," it is a reference to the "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy" episode when he says "Are they here to fix the TV?"

Glitches

  • Sound Glitch: This glitch is randomly triggered. Sometimes when the player pauses the game, the player hears a bunch of random sounds from the game like it not supposed to (instead of the waves from the ocean). The same goes to the "Victory" theme and when the player collects Shiny Objects. Visiting the Spongeball Arena after completing the game will activate this glitch, but the player may need to visit the area multiple times and the player needs to make sure the player uses the "Press R to Go to Bikini Bottom" exit and not the "Press B to Exit" exit. To undo the glitch, save and quit the game, shut the system off and then restart the system and return to the player's game. Another glitch is if the player goes there 12 times, the audio turns off by its self, and 13 times, the game stops its animation and its hard to stop the 3rd sound glitch.
  • Music Glitch In Sand Mountain: At the beginning of the Guppy Mound slide, the "Downtown Bikini Bottom" theme will play instead of the "Slide" theme. (Only for a short while.) Also in Flounder Hill and Sand Mountain slides, the "Slide' theme will continue to play even when the player reaches the bottom.
  • Goo Lagoon Slide Music Glitch: At the carnival in Goo Lagoon, a little bit before the slide, if the player jumps on some tents on the right-hand sign of it, and then jump off at the right part of the last tent to get to the slide, the music that usually plays when the player goes down the slide won't play and the player will just hear the regular Goo Lagoon theme.
  • Tubelet Easter Egg: This isn't a glitch, but if the player sets the player's console to a certain date, the Tubelet robot will spit out a different colored flame than its original color. The holidays are:
    • January 1 - New Year's Day (Rainbow colored flames)
    • March 17 - St. Patrick's Day (Green colored flames)
    • April 1 - April Fools' Day (Pink colored flames)
    • July 4 - Independence Day (Red, white, & blue colored flames)
    • October 31 - Halloween (Yellow-orange colored flames)
  • Invisible/Tan SpongeBob: A glitch in the Squidward's dream level, where if SpongeBob used the Cruise Bubble power while standing on an orange note, he will turn invisible when he falls, and Hans will pick up an invisible SpongeBob. When he brings him back to the start, SpongeBob's entire body turns tan. To deactivate the glitch, fire another Cruise Bubble and as long as SpongeBob is not on a falling surface, he will return to normal when the Cruise Bubble pops.
  • Seeing inside people's bodies: If the player gets in front of anybody who can stay in their place, the player can revolve the camera 180 degrees, (console version only) press any button that zooms in, and control the camera down and the player can see inside of them.
  • Out of Bounds in Jellyfish Fields: At Jellyfish Caves, go near the first bus stop in the game, and the player will see a Floating Tiki nearby. Jump on the sign right next to the bus stop and double jump off of it to get to the tiki. Double-jump off the tiki, then use the player's Spin Attack twice to jump even farther and then land in the plain desert. (The player can also do this glitch with Patrick, but its easier with SpongeBob). The player will see that the player is out of the basis map. Then, when the player reaches the point of the map, the player will see a dimensional edge that if the player jumps off, the player will unwittingly fall for a very long time. Eventually, Hans will find the player and take the player safely back up to the cave entrance.
  • Dimensional Hub: Go down the slide at Spork Mountain in Jellyfish Fields. Jump off the correct point of the slide, and make sure the player lands on a path. The player will beat, able to walk down that path and eventually see a dimensional version of SpongeBob's, Patrick's, and Squidward's houses. When the player goes inside them, part of them disappear. This is because the hub is currently not in the map. the player will be able to explore the area for a bit, but Hans might eventually find the player after that, Hans catches the player and the glitch is gone.
  • Spinning in the Sky: On rare occasions, in the Flying Dutchman's Graveyard, when the player sees Chuck for the first time, and stand on the moving platform when he hits the player, it could knock the player into the goo, like always. But sometimes, the player will travel through the goo and into an upside-down sky. the player cannot move around, but the player can make the sky move with the player's control stick.
  • The Glitched Tiki: In the Flying Dutchman's Graveyard, there is a glitched wooden tiki that, if the player destroys the five other tikis it is in a group with, using the bubble bowl power from the right distance, the player will be able to walk through it and it will become "invincible" and indestructible. It will stay in one position, and it won't chatter its teeth or stare at the player the way it should instead, it has no animations. In Jellyfish Fields, there is a glitched Stone Tiki that will be unbreakable (this is very rare, though).
  • Kelp Vines Glitch: If the only visible checkpoint on the kelp vines halfway through the slide is activated, and SpongeBob falls, as soon as Hans lets go of him back at the checkpoint but before SpongeBob regains movement, SpongeBob can perform a Bubble Bowl that will launch him into the middle of the Kelp Forest without Hans detecting him. (Do not double jump while being launched, this will double the distance and the player will be too far to walk back to anything.) SpongeBob may now turn around and actually walk underneath the Kelp Vines. Interestingly, there is a lone Thunder Tiki and Stone Tiki along the way.
  • Hans Hand Disable/Overworld OoB/Boss Skips: If the player goes by Jellyfish Fields' Taxi in Bikini Bottom, and go in the out-of-bounds sand while taking the taxi, Hans will take the player to Jellyfish Fields after the second time of doing this. Go back to Bikini Bottom and the player will be able to go anywhere out of bounds. This glitch only prevents the player from falling out of bounds, though the sand still affects the player with it activated. To make the player invincible with the sand too, the player has to jump in the waterfall lake near the beginning of the level, with the spatula in it (with autosave activated). The player will be able to go everywhere, and the save icon will be still on the bottom of the screen. This glitch can be used to skip the Robo-Sandy and Robo-Patrick bosses. Note that not only does this prevent the player from getting the Golden Spatulas from these respective bosses, but also prevents Plankton and Bubble Buddy from appearing in the subsequent areas, thus preventing the player from learning the Bubble Bowl move from Bubble Buddy in Area 2, which is required for certain Golden Spatulas. Skipping Robo-Patrick also prevents the player from getting the Cruise Bubble, a technique required to get some Golden Spatulas, although beating the game's final boss, SpongeBot SteelPants does not require the Cruise Bubble, as the player can either glitch the fight and make it end early, or simply glitch their way to SpongeBot's body and hit the green buttons normally. The way to do this glitch can be viewed here
  • Shiny object grinding trick: This is not much a glitch, but more an easy to perform exploit that the player can use to the player's advantage. To perform this trick, simply go to the Lighthouse area in Downtown Bikini Bottom and get to the bottom of the area by destroying the enemy spawners. When the player reaches the bottom, DO NOT destroy the two enemy spawners in the two identical platforms with laser barriers below them. Instead, jump to the platform with the Chuck enemy next to it. Hide behind the enemy spawning machine in a way that the Chuck robot can't hit the player with his missiles. When the player succeeds, the player will now be able to grind Shiny Objects infinitely. Since robots home in/run towards the player when they spawn and the fact that there's an electrical gate below the platforms that instantly destroys all ground-borne robots, the player can simply leave the player's game on and do other things while the player gains Shiny Objects that the robots give after being destroyed, spawned, and destroyed in an infinite cycle. However, since the robots give a small amount of Shiny Objects at a time, it will take a few hours for the player to get any significant amount of currency doing this trick. This trick can be used to gain access to the concept art movie theater and other things that require Shiny Objects to unlock much earlier than the game expects the player to, a technique that is called Sequence Breaking.
  • Outside of SpongeBob's Dream: If the player dies someway in Goo Lagoon or disables the hand and goes to SpongeBob's Dream if the player falls down a crazy glitch will happen. The skybox disappears, and the player will be falling for an unlimited time.
  • Anytime the player performs a bungee jump if you go for long enough, SpongeBob's animation will start to deform. The most common animation glitch seen when this happens is SpongeBob's eyes being displaced and clipping through his body.
