Astrology with Squidward

Astrology with Squidward logo

Astrology with Squidward is a series of SpongeBob SquarePants shorts that originally aired from 2000 to 2001. They feature Squidward giving horoscopes for six of the 12 zodiac signs.

SpongeBob's Nicktoon Summer Splash also featured at least one exclusive Astrology with Squidward segment, set in the living room of SpongeBob's house.[1]

In July 2019, Nickelodeon India released a second series of zodiac-themed shorts titled Undersea Horoscopes. All 12 signs were covered, unlike in Astrology with Squidward.

Characters

Synopsis

At the beginning of every short, Squidward plays his clarinet. After that, he congratulates the birthday of one zodiac sign and then starts "predicting." At the end of every short, Squidward says "I'm Squidward, your Nicktoon astrologer," says something random, and then plays his clarinet again.

Squidward's astrology segments during SpongeBob's Nicktoon Summer Splash are set in SpongeBob's house. They feature identical animation for Squidward and his clarinet. As part of his summer hosting duties, SpongeBob comments on Squidward's predictions, much to the latter's annoyance.[1]

Trivia

  • On February 2, 2020, every short from the series was put in a compilation video uploaded by the SpongeBob SquarePants Official YouTube channel in the highest quality possible.
  • Each short aired during commercial breaks on Nickelodeon from 2000 to 2001, one for each time of the year in Zodiac signs.
  • The Zodiac signs are represented by characters often crudely dressed up to look like the actual sign's animal.
  • The short series was cut from Nickelodeon's lineup after airing for a year, but the shorts were still sometimes aired on Nicktoons Network afterwards.
  • These are the first shorts of the SpongeBob SquarePants series.
  • The shorts were dubbed in Russian and Polish. Poland aired the shorts from 2010 to 2012.

  • The SpongeBob's Nicktoon Summer Splash segments featuring Astrology with Squidward were also dubbed in German.
  • On March 24, 2018, Vincent Waller said that "they did not do the entire chart" of zodiac signs.[2] On April 8, 2019, he reiterated: "They did not ever do the full zodiac. What you can find online was all that was ever produced."[3]
  • Vincent Waller asked Squidward's voice actor, Rodger Bumpass, if he remembered doing all of the zodiac signs but he did not remember doing any of the Astrology shorts at all.[4]
  • On December 7, 2019, a Nickelodeon promo aired that showed a segment of Sagittarius.
  • The beginning clarinet track has also been used in "The Paper" as the track Gary was playing on Squidward's clarinet.
