2013 (MMXIII) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar. The series went on hiatus from May to October, to account for a hiatus in production caused by The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Only 9 episodes aired making it the year with the fourth fewest SpongeBob episodes, behind 2003, 2004, and 2014.

Most episodes from the first half of the ninth season were aired in Greece and Israel. Three episodes aired there first in 2013, these being "Don't Look Now," "Séance Shméance," and "SpongeBob You're Fired."
