Stephen Hillenburg was born on Fort Sill, a United States Army base on Lawton, Oklahoma in August 21, 1961 and he grew up on Anaheim, California.
In 1994, he began developing The Intertidal Zone characters and concepts for what became SpongeBob SquarePants, which has aired continuously since 1999.
From 1993 to 1996, he worked on the Nickelodeon animated series Rocko's Modern Life; during this time, he continued to fine-tune the aquatic series concept that he had begun in the 1980s. It would eventually be pitched to Nickelodeon as SpongeBoy Ahoy! and subsequently renamed SpongeBob SquarePants.
On November 26, 2018, Stephen Hillenburg passed away on San Marino, California due to ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) at the age of 57.
I share a respect to our beloved creator of the series for his 7th death anniversary, Thank you for everything Stephen Hillenburg... 🩵
