Hey folks - Happy Halloween! I've got an update that should help users feel safer on the platform during the spooky season and beyond! 👻
We're making some changes involving email confirmation and anonymous editing. Please read Brandon’s blog for a full breakdown, but areas I want to draw your attention to are:
Email confirmation - on wikis where anon editing is disabled, editors will now need to confirm their email addresses before they can edit or comment on wikis. This is another user safety measure to act as a roadblock for bad actors. Note: this is already live on this wiki and all wikis designated as aimed at children. Just wanted to give you a heads up this is rolling out to more wikis!
Anonymous editing - While anon editing is seen as a gateway to editing, it also carries risks of extra vandalism. To help with this, we are disabling anon editing on brand new wikis (already live) and disabling anon editing on wikis with inactive admins/mods (aiming for this week)
Please do read the blog for more information and rationale, as well as other safety measures we've brought in. As always, as your Community Manager, if you have questions or feedback - please let me know!
