<p>Hey everyone,
</p><p>FANDOM's push for a more inclusive ecosystem is looking good, and it's why I'm taking the initiative to suggest Portable Infoboxes to you all. ESB is a huge wiki, in the top 50 of the WAM score, with lots of views per day. Did you know about 60% of these views are on mobile? I think the infobox migration would really help for mobile users.
</p><p>This is where portability comes in - making sure the templates have clean code and work great on different skins, such as on mobile as well as desktop mode. The styling is split off from the templates so that the wiki's infoboxes should look good everywhere. Sure, ESB's got some style to its infoboxes already.

<p>Some counter-arguments have come up talking about this, so I would like to touch on it.

</p><p>Some argue that these infoboxes look generic and will lose that sense of individuality. No one is taking any of that way, but really, who needs a tab for every single outfit change for each character? The answer is: We don't. That can easily go in the gallery.
</p><p>"<i>Computer usage is more than mobile usage</i>"
</p><p>This is false. 60% of users come to read and edit by mobile devices compared to the 30% that come by PC. Note: If we go with the Portable infoboxes, it won't change the look that much, an example can be seen here, with the new infobox on the right.
</p><p>PI's are the future, lots of wikis have them, and as a very active wiki, we are hurting the community, and thwarting new users from joining. We want the wiki to be accurate, but we also want it to be organized and clean, which right now, that's not looking like it.

</p><p>If you think otherwise, then continue. ? Also, your 83rd post there is actually understandable for reading. ? So, we can let from now on to have the users decide! If the majority agrees, then that's fine, but we HAVE first to stop the conversation (just like the proposals we users do here, first there's the concerns stage and then, the voting one)!

This has been an unofficial conversation so far about Portable Infoboxes, and it has gotten into unrelated topics. I'm launching a new thread momentarily that will cover the mobile display problems that are absolute must-fixes (regardless of what your community consensus says, these specific problems can't go unfixed). This thread can continue to discuss Portable Infoboxes. Assuming that ESB doesn't have them deployed by the time they're assigned, Vanguard or FANDOM staff will make an official proposal about them when the time comes.
</p><p>120d / Dylan: I'm saying that the majority of people in the thread may not agree on the exact numbers but that they recognize that there are "more than zero" mobile users, and that they represent a significant (aka > 10%, more than trivial portion of traffic). If you don't agree personally with even that (regardless of how the numbers are derived), that's past the point of healthy skepticism and is a bias on your part.
</p><p>Nick: That's up to your rules. I need to make the "official" thread regarding the must-fix issues, and you can conclude Portable Infobox discussions here if you wish to. I'm sorry that the other posts have been denser reading; technical material (that were only partially related to Portable Infoboxes) came up that confused issues, and we're about to fix that.

<p>Read this carefully, please. Some choices are left largely to communities, which have a great deal of choices and freedom while operating on the FANDOM network. But to operate on the FANDOM network, sometimes FANDOM has to make changes that communities may or may not agree with. One of those things is making sure that broken user experiences get fixed. How that happens is often a choice. Broken things on a large scale have to be fixed. They are not a choice, and whether that's done is not a factor; who does it and how are up for debate, but that a fix must happen is not.

- Portable Infoboxes, for the time being, are a choice <i>inside your community</i>. FANDOM isn't presenting an official proposal. Your own bureaucrat brought it up. This whole discussion is not binding to what Vanguard and / or FANDOM brings up when an official proposal is made.
- Fixing the broken experience on mobile is not a choice. It has to be fixed, whether you fix it or we fix it. That's a completely different discussion than Portable Infoboxes, and therefore gets a new thread that <i>officially</i> comes from FANDOM.

<p>The right one can be altered using CSS. What you see there took 20 minutes. If more time was spent, no doubt it could get closer to the original design, if looks are what we're talking about.

<p>The left one looks alot like the one first shown in "Plankton" while to me, at least the right one looks scarier.
